I have a magnetic pick up sensor

I wanted to measure the speed of an engine (flywheel). I have a encoder type sensor with a magnetic strip inside (hall effect type),mounted on the flywheel (with 12 holes). The magnetic pick up sensor, generates a pulse train (Is this a TTL signal?). I wanted to measure the speed of the flywheel, by measuring the frequency/time period/width of the pulse. I have a AT-MIO-16E-10 data card inside my PC and AMUX-64T Multiplexer. Can I use them to measure the speed of the engine. I have a SCB-68 connection box, connected to another PC, which I'm using to measure the in-cylinder pressure (high frequency) triggered with a external scan clock, which has a "Crank angle encoder" as source.(pulse per every 1/2 CA =720 pulses/rev).
Index pulse (D
igital trigger) is connected to PFI0
External Scanclock source is connected to PFI7.
We are using slightly modified "acquire Nscans-external scan clk D.vi" for measuring in-cylinder pressure.
I just wanted an efficient way of measuring the speed of the engine with the equipment I have.

Hi Mr.Filipe A.,
Thanks for your response. We are using labview (version 5.0). I have few more questions.
1) I have a SCB-68, connected to another PC (first PC is connected with AMUX-64T), which I'm using to trigger the in-cylinder pressure (high frequency) with a external scan clock, which has a "Crank angle encoder" as source.(pulse per every 1/2 CA =720 pulses/rev).
Index pulse (Digital trigger for TDC) is connected to PFI0
External Scanclock source is connected to PFI7.
As the encoder and digital trigger are connected to two pins (PFI7 and PFI0 respv.). Will I be able to connect the speed pick-up sensor, also to the same SCB-68, (if so what are the available pins numbers, do I have to use to connect the gate source for my speed pick-up).
2) Can
I use the crankangle encoder only to measure the speed of the engine? if so how?. Im already using the crakangle encoder in "acquireNscans-externalscanclkD.vi.". Can I use it for two different applications?
3) If I have to get another SCB-68, will I be able to connect that in series with AMUX-64T, so that I can get the readings in first PC, only.
Thanks for your time,
Surya.

  • IPAD2 Magnetic On/Off Sensor not working after replacing power ribbon

I broke my digitizer so replaced it, in doing so I damaged the delicate power ribbon so replaced that too. Everything works excep the magnetic on/off that activates when yo close down the Smart Cover.
I have tried another power ribbon and again everything works (power, mute, volume) except the magnetic on/off sensor.
Does any body have any ideas what I could be doing wrong?
The part I am referring to is on ifixit ipad 2 smart cover tear down see link below but as there is no damage to the item (and I've tried a second ribbon) I really can't see what else to do.
    http://www.ifixit.com/Teardown/iPad-2-Smart-Cover-Teardown/5089/1
I usually get a buzz from being able to fix things like this but this is really making me tear my hair out. Any ideas please...

I have found that the original 821-1151-A cable differs from all the replacements I have bought so far as follows:
    1.  The original has the two pins of the Hall Effect device chip towards the edge of the cable connected together by the print and the connected by a track in the cable to system earth.  On the fake cable the pins are connected together but go nowhere.
    2.  The two pins of the Hall chip away from from the edge of the cable are connected to separate print tracks on the original but are connected together on the fake.
    3.  The multipin connector on the original cable has metal end cap reinforcements which are missing from the fake.
    4.  On the original cable the system earth side of the slide switch is connected to the multipin connector and on the fake is not.
    5.  The print connecting the cable to the multipin connector on one side lacks the individual contact connections of the original.
Since a Hall Device needs at least three circuit connections to function these cables are obvious fakes.

  • The first time you use nike + do u have to wake up the sensor?

the first time you use nike + do u have to wake up the sensor?

There is no need to charge it before you first use it.  You cannot run the battery too low as the system will shut the device off before that happens to protect the battery.
Generally speaking, your Lithium battery will have the longest useable life if you avoid deep cycles.  Since you can plug and unplug it as you wish, the best thing to do is just charge it up (however much) whenever it is convenient to do so (whether it is 10% discharged, or 20% or 50% - basically don't pay any attention to the battery level, just plug it in when it is convenient to do so to keep the battery topped up).  And try to avoid frequent deep cycles where you run it all the way or very near to the point it auto-shuts off.

  • Does iPad3 have a magnetic on/off switch?

I have a Targus cover with magnetic on/off but won't work with iPad 3. It will work with iPad 2.  Noticed iPad 3 doesn't have magnetic switch option in setting like iPad 2.  What am I missing here?

Thank you for advice. I attached an official Apple Smart Cover and heard the click and the option appeared in the Settings...General dropdown menu as predicted.
Then I went back to Best Buy and trialled 5 consecutive Targus Versavu cases and the 6th was sucessful. This 3rd party cover/case must have issues related to magnet position or polarity.
Obviously, this is not an item you would want to order online ..........unless, of course, you like ordering, returning, ordering, returning, etc. The case I bought was "supposed" to work work, too.........but the magnet is in the wrong place. I kept it, since I like it and just decided to forego the awake/sleep function. I just do it manually.

  • How do I measure RPM from a magnetic pick up?

I have a Red Lion RPM display with a hall effect sensor connected to it. From what I've read This sensor/display setup passes a current through the pickup and measures the voltage generated by the rotating shaft to determine RPM.The problem I am having is my daqboard (PCI-6025E) counter won't measure the AC pulse of the sensor output. I currently use the ac output of the counter connected to an analog input and have it scaled for 1.6 v to 3.2 volts ac equals 400 to 2500 RPM.Is there a signal conditioning board I could use to convert the ac pulse to a 5 volts ttl pulse the daqboard can use?I've tried using a schmitt trigger, but I can't get an output from the trigger.

    ; ;lgfh;lgf;lkgf,
One option would be to use the analog triggering on one of our full featured E Series data acquisition boards to trigger a digital pulse as outlined in the following Knowledge Base:
    http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/websearch/67CCAAF13C8617FC86256E01006C3D69?OpenDocument
Another option would be to purchase some of our SSR Series input modules. These modules convert AC and DC voltages to a TTL logic signal. If a voltage is within the selected input range, the SSR module returns logic low. Otherwise, the SSR module returns logic high.
Whether you choose to go with the full featured E Series DAQ board or the SSR modules I recommend contacting our internal sales department at 1-800-433-3488 since they are wonderful at specifying systems.

  • Does the PlayBook have a magnetic case activated "holster" mode like the smartphones?

Title pretty much says it all.  While I'm waiting for my PlayBook, I'm wondering about accessories.  In particular the slip case from RIM.
    Under features are listed:
    •    Precision-fit protection
    •    Rigid panels and flexible sides with easy access to charging or media ports
However, notably absent from that feature list is:
    •    RIM patented technology to sleep device while in case (from a Torch 9800 case feature description)
So does the PlayBook have a "holster-mode" at all?  If so, which cases support/activate it?  It's a very cool feature of the smartphones and would be conspicuous by it's absence.

A few users in the IRC said that they could find no magnets in the device, and a teardown by iFixit revealed the same thing

  • The order is under my dads name and he will not be here to give his signature, (he is going to be here the next day though) are they going to come the next day and see if he is here or do we have to go pick it up somewhere? iPod touch

Im not sure, if anyone knows please let me know , thanks!

Generally, they will accept a signature from anyone at the delivery address (unless the person is obviouslly under age).
For example, I frequently have stuff delivered to work, and the mail room signs for it, then I pick it up from the mail room later in the day (such as a package I'm having delivered tomorrow).
It is also possible to contact the shipping service and pre-sign so they will leave the package.

  • IPod earphones have become magnetic

I've noticed the problems a lot of people have complained about with a 5th gen iPod and the iPod earbuds; over the last few weeks a noticeable buzz has developed on some of the louder sounds in my left bud and the quality of the earbuds overall (especially the left) is decreasing rapidly.
However when I turned my iPod off tonight and put it on the desk I noticed that the earbuds started acting like the small magnets you used to get in school; depending on the angle they repel/attract each other strong enough to push/pull the earbud I'm not holding. Obviously I'm concerned about putting them in my ears (not sure if it will have any effect, but don't want to risk it) - presume I'm just going to have to send them back?

    Hi Ukdmbfan,
    Welcome to Apple Discussions
I believe the reason why you are getting that buzz is because you might be playing your music too loud for the headphones themselves (frequencies as well). If you want to get new headphones, you might want to look at iPod Service Request to get new ones under warranty.
I believe headphones are magnets for the most part. If you take any pair of headphones apart you should notice that there are magnets. I wouldn't worry about putting them in your ears unless they are metal (ears).

  • New VZW customer - have yet to pick a phone. Can I get it subsidized from anyone other than VZW?

Maybe a silly question but here we go.
My family and I just signed a new family plan contract with Verizon coming from AT&T. We have the rest of the month still on AT&T so I have yet to purchase a new phone from Verizon yet. I am interested in the Note 2 and have found it on Amazon Wireless for $199 or Let's Talk for $180 for new Verizon customers. Am I able to get this price? Or am I stuck paying VZW's full rate because we signed up directly through them?
Here are the links to the deals in question:
    http://www.letstalk.com/samsung-galaxy-note-ii-verizon
    http://wireless.amazon.com/Samsung-Galaxy-Android-Verizon-Wireless/dp/B00AB7FWDW/ref=sh_br_ph_5?t=slickdeals&tag=slickdeals&ie=UTF8&transaction=INDIVIDUAL_NEW&sr=2-5-entd&qid=1354825843929

If you have signed a contract, you have 14 days to get out of it. Keep in mind going with another provider, especially Let's Talk, you have an additional contract you are signing with an additional ETF to be paid.
With Let's Talk, if you make a change to your plan within 180 days of purchase, you will get hit with a $350ETF and will still be under contract with VZW.

  • HT4053 I have lost the ring when I get a phone call or a messege.  The phone vibrates, but there is no ringtone.  I have a ringtone picked and the ringer volume is as high as possible.

That pretty much sez it.  No ringtone on a call or messege or text although one has been selected.  Vibration but not tone.  Ringer volume is all the way and nothing.

  • Magnetic sensor in Nokia XL

My Nokia XL device, purchased recently, looks like doen't have magnetic sensors.
I had installed compass app to know my direction, but it says that this device doen't have active magnetic sensors.
Magnetic sensors are needed to find normal directions north, south, west, east. Without this, nav maps are almost useless.
Is it something to do with my settings? or my device is faulty? or this model of Nokia XL doesn't come with magnetic sensors.
    Solved!

    Nokia X, X+, XL don't have magnetometer.
By the way, navigation application's experience is much dependent on gps, not on compass.

  • Why did you pick Adobe AIR for development?

I'm not an Adobe AIR developer yet. From what I've seen so far, it looks like a decent environment to work in but I'm very early in my research. I'd love to hear from you as to why you picked it. I've got an application in mind and would like it to be able to have the following characteristics:
Run on a variety of devices
Have access to local hardware, sensors
Transmit data on demand either to or from device, choose network and level of compression based on rule set
Access a variety of databases including Oracle, SQL*Server, MySQL.
Have a strong development community and resources.
Seems AIR has all these things. Would love to know why you picked AIR, other products you looked at and elminated, why you eliminated those?
    Thanks so much.

I picked AIR because IMO it's the easiest / best performing / cross platform development tool I know. Cordova, PhoneGap, etc can do similar, but they just can't keep up with performance/ease  from AIR.
AIR has updates pretty often too, so things are always looking better.
Using AIR also gives you the ability to use the flash IDE, which currently I 1000% can not comprehend how certain things could be built without it.
