I have a message in my draft folder which causes mail to quit. I cannot delete it?

I have a message in my draft folder which shuts down the mail program. I am unable to delete it.

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Step 1
For this step, the title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select
SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages
from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
          View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar at the top of the screen.
In the top right corner of the Console window, there's a search box labeled Filter. Initially the words "String Matching" are shown in that box. Enter the name of the crashed application or process. For example, if Safari crashed, you would enter "Safari" (without the quotes.)
Each message in the log begins with the date and time when it was entered. Select the messages from the time of the last crash, if any. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.
☞ The log contains a vast amount of information, almost all of which is irrelevant to solving any particular problem. When posting a log extract, be selective. A few dozen lines are almost always more than enough.
Please don't indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Please don't post screenshots of log messages—post the text.
☞ Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.
Step 2
In the Console window, select
DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION ▹ User Diagnostic Reports
(not Diagnostic and Usage Messages) from the log list on the left. There is a disclosure triangle to the left of the list item. If the triangle is pointing to the right, click it so that it points down. You'll see a list of crash reports. The name of each report starts with the name of the process, and ends with ".crash". Select the most recent report related to the process in question. The contents of the report will appear on the right. Use copy and paste to post the entire contents—the text, not a screenshot.
I know the report is long, maybe several hundred lines. Please post all of it anyway.
If you don't see any reports listed, but you know there was a crash, you may have chosen Diagnostic and Usage Messages from the log list. Choose DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION instead.
In the interest of privacy, I suggest that, before posting, you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.)
Please don’t post other kinds of diagnostic report—they're very long and rarely helpful.

I am running Mail 2.1.3. For some reason I am no longer able to delete draft messages from my Drafts folder. It is by no means a serious problem, just annoying! Can anyone figure this out? Thanks.

Hi Dubaiman, and a warm welcome to the forums!
I'm having trouble finding exactly where that is stored, but maybe move these to the Desktop in case we want to put them back, quit Mail first...

How do I open draft folder of my mail?

Tap on it. The same way that you open any folder in your email account. If you are asking how to create a draft folder .... Start typing an email and then tap Cancel at the top of the email window and you will be prompted to save or delete the draft. Tap Save Draft and then the draft folder will appear.
Now what are you really asking about? Will your draft folder not open?

We want to make sure that we get your phone up and running. Can you look to see where you have the most stuff stored at. Settings>General>Usage>Storage.
This will tell you what exactly is using everything. Then you can delete things from there.

We are having the issue on hundreds of systems and I am rolling out the readiness tool mentioned above to prevent other systems from being affected.  In the mean time I have stopped deploying MS13-098 and am hoping Microsoft will go ahead and let all
of their customers know about the problem instead of just one country.  Hopefully the original bulletin will be updated with this known issue.

    PPoj,
Apple has offered replacement or pro-rated refunds in the US as a settlement of a class action lawsuit, not because of pride in their design-centric approach to their products. If you seek a similar replacement/refund program in India, then the odds are pretty good that you’d need a similar legal approach with which to convince Apple to offer a similar program there. If you’re unwilling to wait for such an event, then you can purchase a replacement power cable now, and hope for a pro-rated refund at some point in the future.

  • Mail Messages Going To Drafts Folder

Almost every mail message I compose - both new messages and replies - are showing up in the Drafts folder.  These seem to be identical to messages after they are sent and appearing in the Sent folder.  I'm not saving them at any time, so why would these messages go to "Drafts"?
    Thanks,
    JD

While indeed unchecking this option stops the behavior, it's not the best of solutions.  The options to save drafts on server is available with any decent IMAP program, and generally is very beneficial.  Say I start a message on my Mac, and then have to leave before it's done.  If it's saved to the server, I can then pick this message up later on my iPhone or iPad and complete it and send it.  Or I can start it on an iOS device, have it save to the server from there, and then pick it up on my Mac later to complete.
So, the functionality of "Save drafts on server" is widely known amongst IMAP clients, and it would be nice if Apple Mail would simply replace a previous draft of a particular message with the latest version rather than piling up multiple versions of the email.  Also, it's customary that when you eventually send the message, the drafts also disappear.
It would also help if there was a way to increase the auto-save time to a longer setting so that they don't pile up so fast.

  • Multiple copies of same message accumulate in Drafts folder. How do we correct this behavior?

My wife is the buyer for our business. She will begin an email to a supplier at some point in the day, and will build upon it throughout the day, bouncing between the email and the Point of Sale system and catalogs and supplier websites (and other non-related things) until she is satisfied with her order, then she will send it off. It seems that every time she leaves the message that she is composing a copy of it is made in the drafts folder. She she'll get a dozen or more copies of the same draft accumulating in there. That makes it cluttered and confusing - especially since she will often have as many as ten different emails that she is working on throughout the day. (It's a complex world and she is a complex person!) The drafts folder becomes very full.
Normally, if she exits from a message that she is composing (a draft) it asks if she wants to save it. She says yes, but all of those earlier copies still exist and do not go away until she manually deletes them. This can take a lot of time and once in a while she accidentally deletes the latest copy.
Maybe there is a setting that corrects this, but I cannot find it. From our perspective something is broken. Oddly, it doesn't do this on my system, but does do it on the computer in our store, too. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Summary to reproduce:
    1. Start a new email and add some text to it.
    2. Go off and do some other work.
    3. Come back and add some more to it.
    4. Make a few loops back to #2 then go on.
    5. Exit from the email without sending. Click on "save a copy in drafts".
    6. Go look at the drafts folder and it will have multiple earlier drafts of the same message.
    7. While manually deleting excess drafts, accidentally delete the most recent one.
    8. Jump up and down, cursing and throw something at your spouse who has been unable to fix this problem on his own.

Ick. So it can't just work sensibly? Sensible would be either autosave overwrites previously autosaved versions or all autosaved versions would be deleted when the message is finally sent. Allowing previous message versions to accumulate endlessly might be beneficial to someone, but does not seem like sensible default behavior.

  • Messages "stuck" in draft folder seems to be fixed in 10.6.4

I contributed some time ago to the annoying "feature" that after a message had been sent, it also remained forever in the "draft" folder.
This appears to be fixed in the update - although at first sight, I couldn't find any official info about it.
Anyway, I haven't had the problem anymore since the update - so, thanks Apple.

To check if the message had been sent, you should check the Sent folder in Mail. As soon as the message appears there, it has been sent to your mail service provide.
The Mail app has an auto-save feature and your might end up having multiple "zombie" draft messages in the corresponding folder. If you checked the Sent folder it is save to delete them in the Draft folder.

  • Mail app:  copy and past in draft folder kills the mail app every time

Create an email and save it (instead of sending it), the go to the draft folder, copy that draft (command,c) and try to paste it (command v) to create multiple versions of that email and the mail app dies every time. I do this to create multiple copies for mass emails which brings me to problem 2, the Mail app cannot send to multiple email addresses.

This has been really bothering me. I came up with this solution and have tested it. I hope it works for you too.
    Create your first e-mail
Save it to your Drafts folder, in the usual way (in whichever account you're going to send from)
Left-drag this e-mail FROM your drafts folder on to your DESKTOP
Double click the icon it makes
When it opens, from the Mail.app menu bar click Message > Copy to > click on the Drafts folder you want your e-mail to be saved in
The e-mail that you double clicked from the desktop should still be open
Now use this key-combination alt-⌘-T and you'll copy another version of the same draft e-mail to your drafts folder
Repeat the key-combination for as many versions of the e-mail you need - you can work at some speed, it keeps up - no crashes. They will all go to your Drafts folder in the same way the Copy/Paste feature used to work
Once you have as many copies in there as you need, double click each one from your drafts folder, add the recipient address and any customisation and SEND!
This problem appears in quite a few threads on the Apple forum, so I will cross post.
I've not seen this solution anywhere else, or anything similar.
I'm happy for you to share this, once you've tested it, and you can follow on http://twitter.com/philipchapman
    GOOD LUCK!

  • Missing draft folder in mac mail

My draft folders in my mac mail seem to have disappeared.  I have three email accounts and they all are missing.  How do I find them?

If there is nothing in a draft folder, it is not present.
If there was something in the folders, Time Machine would have a copy.

I have an existing new belkin modem router which works fine with quiet a few wired and wireless products in my house. My question is if i buy a time capsule can i put it in another room and wirelessly connect it to the belkin modem router, I would then just like my macbook pro and (imac future purchase) to wirelessly back up to it???????????

Your will need to perform a Factory Default Reset on the TIme Capsule to clear out the current network settings and then reconfigure it to "join" your wireless network using the AirPort Utility setup application.
To perform the Factory Default Reset on the Time Capsule....
Pull the power cord from the back of the device
    Wait a few moments
Hold in the reset button on the back of the Time Capsule and keep holding it an additional 8-10 seconds while you simultaneously plug the power cord back in to the Time Capsule
Release the reset button after the hold period and allow 25-30 seconds for the Time Capsule to restart to a slow, blinking amber light
    On your Mac.....
Open Macintosh HD > Applications > Utilities > AirPort Utility
    Click Continue
Follow the guided setup and choose the "join" option when it appears duriing the setup
You will need to know the exact type of wireless security that the Belkin router is using to enter this information during the setup of the Belkin. Otherwise, the Time Capsule cannot join the network, and you will receive an error message after the configuration process.
