I have a mid 2009 15" Macbook Pro that does not recognize there is an Airport card installed.
I bought the Macbook Pro secondhand and I'm sure I saw the Airport Icon when I first booted up, but then I did a clean install of 10.8 and since then I can not get Airport turned on again. The machine had damage to the clutch cover so I assumed the Airport card was faulty and replaced it but no joy, I then sourced a new WiFi / Camera cable and plugged that into the motherboard and tried each of the cards and still nothing. I've used Detectnewhardware and edited locations and still nothing. I am assuming that if the card was detected then I'd see the Airport option come up in Network settings but nothing I do triggers that. One thing I noticed is that with both cards and cables when connected in any combination the Airport card gets hot very quickly, which I find strange given it's allegedly not turned on.
Are there other settings that might be making the card invisable to my machine, it's possible this was a Corporate machine in an earlier life so I'm wondering if there's a low level setting that disables WiFi, although I'm sure I saw it come up the first time I used it but maybe my memory is playing triks.
I've also tried a USB WiFi dongle and that doesn't do anything either, but I think that could be a driver issue.
Other than the logic board I can't think of anything else to change, and I don't want to change that, so if anyone has ideas please let me know and put me out of my misery.

Does anyone thing it's possible that installing the OS without the Airport card working has caused the system to completley ignore it even though it may now have a working card and cable, seems unlikely to me but really struggling to know where to look now.

Brand new macbook pro - iTunes does not recognize multiple speakers, my older macs work correctly
New macbook pro with iTunes 10.5.2. OS 10.7.2 Setting up iTunes.
Two speakers on Airport devices.
Switch at bottom right shows all of the speakers above the line, and "multiple speakers" below the line. The two speakers on the airport devices are #3 and #4 on the list above the line. (i.e. ITunes is aware that these airport speakers exist).
I can click on single airport speakers above the line, and ITunes connects.
When I click on "multiple speakers", I get "computer" and the first listing which is a printer hooked up on an airport express link. Also get the separate volume controls etc. The third and fourth entries on the list (i.e. the airport speakers) are not displayed on the multiple speakers list.
So I can connect to one speaker at a time, e.g. the computer, or any other speaker, but I cannot connect to multiple speakers.
I have two other macs and have never had this problem with hooking up to the multiple speakers.
Thanks for any help.Same here - the problem is - it was working for a few days after I've upgraded iTunes to version 10, and then yesterday - I've rent the movie from Apple Store and once downloaded with iTunes - I wanted to transfer it to my ATV - however - my link to ATV suddently disappeared. What a piece of Crap. I can't describe my frustration - apple products aren't cheap and they always come with some kind of problem - what the **** is going on - it's not just the design people are looking for but also functional products.
Yesterday I've tried to turn of ATV, remove link from iTunes, start ATV make new connection to iTunes, start up iTunes - ATV shows up, code put in and at this stage I thought it finally works - but hey - forget it - I'm trying to put the purchased rental onto ATV and I get an alert saying that my firewall (which I have none) is stopping me from syncing. I then go to the support page which explains how to deal with it - but on some very old version of the system - my system (Snow Leopard) doesn't have those options any more. So as far I I'm concerned I'm screwed unless they fix the problem with their software.
If you guys know of any possible solution to this problem (and I did read many forum topics already - none of which works) - then please let me know. -
Macbook pro retina does not recognize Tiki USB microphone

I have the exact same issue. Mid 2010 MBP. I ran software update before the upgrade, ran the upgrade, no longer have iLife / iWork (Garage Band, Pages etc) all gone.
All I can think to do is dig out my disks which are burried away with the box.
Ive upgraded the through Lion, Leopard etc and this has not happened. Also, JRE/JDK uninstalled itself so I had to reinstall that and Netbeans.
All in all a pretty crap update. Losing iPhoto is a pain in the neck and really should not have happened. I have an email out with App Store support. I am not paying £10+ to re-download something I already technically own! -
MacBook Pro now does not recognize USB card reader
My computer recently stopped recognizing my usb card reader. The usb port works fine with my iphone and ipod. The card reader works when plugged into a windows based machine. The problem is not related to OS 10.6 because I had the issue prior to upgrade. I must of updated something software related that is causing the problem. Anyone have any ideas?

We'll need to know exactly what you mean by this. Plug in the reader, without a card in it. Go to Apple Menu > About this Mac > More Info and click on USB in the left column of System Profiler. Do you see *Mass Storage Device* listed under one of the USB port entries in the right part of the window? If so, the reader is recognized. If not, it really isn't. In that case, reset the SMC in your MBP:

Is there a way to upgrade a mid 2009 13" Macbook Pro so that it can use a wireless n network?
I have a mid 2009 13" macbook pro, and I live in a share house. The router we are using is very far away from my room and I do not get very good signal strength. However, my phone and ipad, which are newer, and have wireless n capability, are able to get quite good speeds on this network. I think my problem is that my computer only has a wireless a/b/g airport card. I know that it is meant to be compatible with the draft IEEE 802.11n specification but I don't think it is connecting to the network as a wireless n device.
Is there a way for me to upgrade this card? I have seen a number of cards on ebay etc but I cannot find one that matches my needs. Alternatively, is there a way to make my computer join the network as a wireless n device?I am not sure swapping a wireless card is an easy exercise.. I would not recommend it.
You can hunt up a USB wireless stick that is Mac compatible..
Or you can buy an Apple Express and use it as a wireless bridge. There are plenty of alternative wireless bridges.. you just plug them in by ethernet and use wireless.. depending on the brand of wireless router you have. -

I was ready to have my MacBook Pro formatted when I realized that it would not change and it now works with the power cord when connected.
How do I know which model/Part number it is? or the information that I need to purchase the battery. I am not currently in the states and I will have to purchase it online. Any recommendations?

Mid 2009 13" MacBook Pro wont boot up.
The apple store replaced the cable that went to my hard drive on my mid 2009 13" MacBook Pro. The hard drive still will not boot so they told me to remove it put it in a box and connect it to another computer and save the files. I have done that and connected it to my father's MacBook Pro. I can find the external drive but I don't know what to do next.
My goal is to save the files on his computer then reinstall the hard drive in my computer and start up in restore mode. Next I will reformat the drive and move the files I placed on my fathers Mac back to mine.
Can anyone help me with where I can get step by step instructions to do this?
ThanksI think you mean Office for Mac. In any event, the standard applications will come with the reinstall, like Mail, iTunes, etc. Anything else won't. If you have the original disks the machine came with, the iLife apps should be on there.
I have to say this... I know you probably don't want to spend money on this, but if the data is important, the better way to handle this is to buy another hard drive. They're cheap. I can tell you how to prep the new drive if you don't know how. Then run Migration Assistant when you're done and let it try to pull over all your stuff from the old drive. Once all that is done, you can reformat your old drive and you'll have something to use for backup. You don't say how big your current drive is, but even a 1TB is well under $100 now. The reason I suggest this is because if you miss anything important on your old drive, once you format it it's gone. The way I'm suggesting, you'd be able to make sure you have all you need first. -
f i have a mid 2009 mac book pro and an apple tv that is the latest one. i can not mirror the mac book on my tv. is it the fact that my computer is a little older than 2011 models which will work. any info is greatly appreciated
chuck schickYes. You need 2011 or later in order to mirror as it requires the newer processor. The alternative is airparrot, which does it via software.
