Welcome to Apple Support Communities
You can install a 64-bit Windows 7 or Vista version in your Mac. Make sure you downloaded these drivers > http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1630 Also, if you have the Snow Leopard DVD you used to upgrade your Mac or the OS X DVD that came with your Mac, you can use it to install the Boot Camp drivers

  • "bootcamp x64 is unsupported on this computer model" - Any new information??

    Hi everyone,
I'm trying to install Boot Camp after a successful installation of Windows 7 on my iMac Intel, and I'm getting the above message.  I've scoured the forums and troubleshooting/repairing the "BootCamp64.msi" file is not working.  When I troubleshoot the file, it states that troubleshooting is not necessary.  When I try to repair the file, it states that I can only repair items that have been installed.
Has Apple addressed this problem, or are there other solutions to try?
Just to confirm, do I need to install BootCamp 3.0 before I can upgrade to 3.1 or 3.2?
I would have thought that Apple would address this common problem by now.
    Any help would be appreciated!!
    Thanks,
    David

You can also do this if the above method doesn't work (above methods didn't work for me):
Boot into Windows 7 and insert or thumb drive that contains bootcamp64.msi files
Right-click on Start » Programs » Accessories » Command Prompt
    Select Run as Administrator
Type cd /d F:, press enter
    Type cd windowssupport, press enter
      Type cd  drivers, press enter
      Type cd apple, press enter
      Type BootCamp64.msi, press enter
    All done.

  • Error message saying "Boot cam x64 is unsupported on this computer model" Anyone can help?

Hi! After Windows is installed, (step 3 done) I get an error message when installing Windows assistance software (step 4). It says "Boot Camp x64 is unsupported on this computer model". Anyone can help?
Caro

copy the entire folder off the DVD to some where like Desktop (Windows) or flash memory drive
Now find "BOOTCAMP64.msi" and control + click to see pop up menu and select "TROUBLESHOOT COMPATIBILITY"
It has to do with Apple and Windows support for 64-bit OS using EFI and GPT (such as your Mac).
Some MacBook models were and then were dropped from the list of "supported Macs"

Run MDP to HDMI for picture. Use a cable like this to run sound from your audio out on your Mac to your TV's audio in.  That's about all  you can do.

  • I have a mid 2009 MacBook Pro 5,3 Unibody that won't run anything past Leopard.

I have a mid 2009 MacBook Pro 5,3 Unibody that suffered a minor liquid spill.  After waiting for it to dry out, we found that it powers up (but the display doesn't work unless connected to an external monitor) just fine.  For several months it worked like a tank running Snow Leopard.  I upgraded to Lion with no problems.  Once the 10.7.1 update came out, it completely flipped out and wouldn't finish the install.  I was forced to take it all the way back to Leopard and now it won't upgrade past Leopard.  I replaced the hard drive completely and tried a fresh install of Lion using the thumb drive and that didn't work either.  I got the set of errors you will find below.  (Sorry, I don't know how to hide them like you can in some forums.)  Any ideas or suggestions on why it won't install Lion would be great.  I'm not so concerned about the display as wondering why it worked for 4 months and then another month on Lion and then suddenly flipped out on me.  I'm not knowledgeable enough to decipher the message below.

Might have a hardware issue that was caused by the minor liquid spill.
Take it to Apple to have them look at it.  I think they do a free diagnostics.  That way you can find out what's wrong with your MB.
Good luck....Hope you get it sorted out.

  • BootCamp 5.0 error on 13" MacBook Pro Mid-2010: "Installation Error. Boot Camp x64 is unsupported on this computer model"

Installing Boot Camp 5.0.5033 (downloadable at http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1638) on Windows 8 x64 on 13” MacBook Pro Mid-2010 using BootCamp\setup.exe, I get the following message: “Installation Error. Boot Camp x64 is unsupported on this computer model”.
According to http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5634, Windows 8 x64 is not supported by Boot Camp 5 on 13” MacBook Pro Mid-2010 .
Previous version, Boot Camp 4.0, causes bluescreens on Windows 8 (https://discussions.apple.com/message/20131524#20131524).
Fortunately, it might be still possible to employ updated Boot Camp by launching “msiexec /i BootCamp.msi” from BootCamp\Drivers\Apple folder using administrative command prompt (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc947813%28v=WS.10%29.aspx).
However, new Boot Camp 5.0.5033 does not contain all the drivers for 13” MacBook Pro Mid-2010. E.g. driver for NVIDIA nForce System Management Controller (labeled Other devices/Coprocessor in Control Panel) and NVIDIA nForce PCI Systems Management (labeled Other devices/SM Bus Controller in Control Panel) must be obtained at Drivers\NVidia\NVidiaChipset64 in older Boot Camp 4.0 (downloadable at http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1634)
According to Microsoft (http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-8/system-requirements), the MacBook Pro config (Intel Core 2 Duo P8600 2.4GHz, 4GB RAM) exceeds Windows 8 x64 hardware requirements. Windows Experience Index for this laptop is approx. 5.1 (http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-8/what-windows-experience-index).
Does anybody know, is there any technical reason why Windows 8 x64 is not supported by Boot Camp 5 on 13” MBP Mid-2010?
Is there a specific hardware/firmware deficiency in this MacBook model, incompatible with Win8? Maybe NVIDIA refused to provide Win8-compatible drivers for its chipset components (GeForce 320M graphics card though is still supported by latest notebook drivers available at www.geforce.com)?

Thanks for the detailed explanation! If MacBook supports AHCI/SATA only in native “UEFI mode”, while reverting back to PATA/IDE in legacy “BIOS mode”, then it could make perfect sense to use UEFI to make sure that technology like Native Command Queuing (NCQ) is employed, as it may give noticeable performance improvements for certain operations: www.happysysadm.com/2012/12/intel-g530-nas-performance-part-3.html. I wonder how do you get Windows 8 x64 with EFI bootloader installed on MacBook?
Simply choosing EFI Boot (“Some EFI platforms support both UEFI and BIOS firmware. On some of those systems, it is not always clear if the default DVD boot option is an EFI or BIOS boot option. On these systems, using the EFI shell command may be required. If you do not specifically start Windows Setup by using the EFI boot entry, the default firmware boot entry for BIOS may be used. If Windows Setup starts in BIOS mode on a combined EFI/BIOS system, the ESP and MSR partitions are not created.”) from Win8 x64 DVD when installing on blank HDD would yield “The computer restarted unexpectedly or encountered an unexpected error. Windows installation cannot proceed" message. Also, if the hard drive was not in SATA mode during Windows installation, registry tweaking may be required before switching from PATA to SATA. Do you do registry tweaking and EFI bootloader configuration manually after a copy of Windows was installed in its dedicated partition in a regular way?

  • Cant install 3 or 3.1 "Boot Camp x64 is unsupported on this computer model"

Hello there, i got the latest mac mini in september last year (2009), with bootcamp 3.1 out today etc i finally fired up bootcamp, partitioaned, installed windows 7 etc.
Now windows 7 is working, but when it comes to install the latest 3.1 update, the display driver installs, then nothing else happens!!! so i figured i need to install the old 3 version first of my leapord disk, however that just gives the error "Boot Camp x64 is unsupported on this computer model".
so i manually extracted the files from the 3.1 file "BootCamp3.164-bit" and tried running the "BootCampUpdate64.msp" file manually, this gives the error: "The upgrade patch cannot be installed by the Windows Installer service because the program to be upgraded may be missing, or the upgrade patch may update a different version of the program. Verify that the program to be upgraded exists on your computer and that you have the correct upgrade patch."
    Arghghghghghghg!!!!

This worked for me. I actually copied the Boot Camp folder on to my desktop and removed the ATI drivers prior to running the 3.0 Boot Camp. 3.1 installed with no problems after a reboot.
Mine works after following ccarlise's steps above. The first time I did it (without removing the ATI drivers), it crashed and went into the blue screen. After rebooting, the screen res changed to 800x600 and if I remember correctly, the video driver became "unknown". In the Device Manager (Control Panel > System & Security > System), my Display Adaptor driver ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4670 (Microsoft Corp WDDM 1.1) had an exclamation mark on the item and needed to be "updated", back to the same thing.
After rebooting, the original screen res came back fine and I reinstalled Boot Camp without the ATI drivers.
Everything went fine from then on. The only thing is that in Apple Software Update, Boot Camp 3.1 still shows up as an option. The scrolling function on my Apple Magic Mouse works, so I'm assuming that the 3.1 update was successful...
    Thanks guys for the tips!

  • Error: boot camp x64 is unsupported on this computer model

After installing win 7 x64 bit on bootcamp (on Mac OS 10.6 running x64 bit) I insert the Mac OS X DVD and run the setup file, and get this error:
error: boot camp x64 is unsupported on this computer model
Does anyone know what the issue here is?
    Thanks.
    Mac

To get the Bootcamp64 to install, all you needed to do was copy off the OS X DVD to a folder in Windows, and then CTRL + CLICK on the install file and use Troubleshoot Compatibility.
That is all if you got it installed.
If you have trouble and cant' install and get "Select CD-ROM: 1 or 2" then you have another EFI related issue (Search Google or I have link) and need to reburn a modified ISO and DVD.
I find the supported/unsupported falls strictly on EFI and nothing else, and is a real stretch of imagination.
Windows 64-bit (Vista/7) adds supported for EFI and won't natively boot on Macs with older EFI only UEFI 2.x that came out in late '07 or early '08 is all.
I guess too much to make clear why or how to get the installer to actually work. I have Windows 7 Pro 64-bit on 2006 Mac Pro (unsupported) works great.

  • Why? boot camp x64 is unsupported on this computer model

    Hi,
My iMac is a mid 2010 one,
and I installed bootcamp and Windows 7 Home Premium x64.
I downloaded Bootcamp5 windows software, and when i run setup, i get the error message window saying :
    Installation Error
bootcamp x64 is unsupported on this comuter model.
I thought that my iMac is elgible for Windows x64.
    What am I doing wrong?

    I think I got it.
my iMac is a 21.5" one and I must get bootcamp4 sw.
off I go to download it.

  • I have a mid 2009 macbook pro with a bad dvd drive. Can I use an external drive?

Is there an external CD/DVD drive that will work on a mid 2009 macbook pro with a bad SuperDrive?

    Hi parrotdawg,
Please look at this post first:
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/25385804#25385804
If that doesn't help, I have a Samsung SE-208AB/TSBS External DVD-Writer that works well with my mid-2007 MBP 15".  Note this this drive requires 2 USB ports but doesn't use an external power adapter.  Also, the above trick worked for me after I got this drive, so now I use it a Region 2 DVD player.

  • I have a Mid 2009 Macbook Pro 13 with no restore disk; it has OS 10.8.4 I believe there is something wrong with the OS due to I can not install flash player to view Youtube videos and the when we plug in a Bose headset the sound out will work sometimes

I bough a used Macbook Pro mid 2009 that came with OS 10.8.9 it didn't have a backup restore disk with S/N W8******66D
When trying to view some youtube videos; a window would pop up saying "it needs adobe flash player is required for video play back get the latest flash player" but after downloading the file and during installation would have errors and will not installed.....tried to reboot and install again.....but still the same.
The othe thing I had noticed is when using a good Bose headset with mic the sound output would noticed the headset and then switch from headset to Internal speekers and headset.....thinking that there might be something wrong with the plug in port of the computer or the headset.....the headset works with no issues on my iPad so there must be something wrong with the computer.....tried to move the plugin around the port but no change....while the headset is plug in can hear a short clicking noise and the sound would get lost and back again......but with nothing plugin to the port there is no issue with the sound or mic.
Thanks for your feed back......it looks like I have two different issues one is a software issue and the outher is a hardware issue
    <Edited By Host>

The "restore disk" is built into the Mac. See About Recovery.
Need more specifics about what error messages you got while installing Adobe Flash.
However, you can almost avoid Flash altogether by setting YouTube to play the HTML5 version instead.
Click the Try something new! link at the bottom of the YouTube page.
I don't know about the sound issue. Might be hardware as you think. Try other headphones to check.

  • IMac 20" early 2009. Windows 7 x64. "Boot Camp x64 is unsupported on this computer model"

    Dear all,
I just install windows 7 x64 in my iMac 20" early 2009. But I have a problem with the installation of the drivers of bootcamp in windows 7.
    iMac 20" early 2009
Processor 2,66 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
Graphics NVIDIA GeForce 9400 256 MB
    Software OS X 10.8.4 (12E55)
    I already tried:
Mac OS X v10.6: equipos Mac que utilizan el kernel de 64 bits
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3770?viewlocale=es_ES
OS X: Cómo iniciar el equipo con el kernel de 32 bits o de 64 bits
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3773?viewlocale=es_ES
Boot Camp: System requirements for Microsoft Windows operating systems
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5634
I check this also and try with this bootcamp
    Mac model
    Windows 8, 64-bit
    Windows 7, 64-bit
    Windows 7, 32-bit
    Windows Vista, 64-bit
    Windows Vista, 32-bit
    Windows XP, 32-bit
    iMac (20-inch, Early 2009)
    4
    4
    4
But I can't find a solution. Any suggestion?

If you can grab Boot Camp 3.0 thru 3.x you should be able to get the drivers you need.
Apple took more agressive steps to really lock out and lock down drivers from being used and installed on systems that did not fall under the guide of 'supported'.
So if you have 10.6 DVD that does have Boot Camp 3.0 on it and you would need to update to 3.2, which use to be posted for manual download (so could do so even from Windows) if not thru the Apple Software Update utility in Windows.
If you can find a more "no we won't allow you to" I have never seen it.
And Google as best you can.

  • Tried to Move a Folder with Subfolders & Messages but it did not work fully

As far as I know, Drag n Drop should work - but not into or out of any IMAP account. Only between Local folders and folders in POP accounts.
I moved a subfolder (Clients) under Inbox in a POP account to Local Folders. All the subfolders (a folder for each client) moved, or I should say, copied, as all the folders remained under the original POP account. Also, only four of about 60-70 folders' messages copied as well.
How do I fix this? Is there some way to safely ensure a successful movement? I don't want them in both places.
    Help!!
Note that the reason I am moving is simply reorganizing. As well, my providers are now offering IMAP so the only way I know how to "convert" an account from POP to IMAP is to turn off the POP and create a new account. I've done this successfully with two email addresses, but I want to also move the old email subfolders as well.

So, just to refresh... I believe I did select, then dragged & dropped. Just the folders were created; and of the 60-70 folders only the messages of 4 subfolders were copied, not moved.
I just reviewed How to Switch from POP to IMAP:
'''Transfer your local messages to the server'''
If you have messages or folders in your POP account that you would like access via your IMAP account, simply '''select them and move them to your IMAP account by dragging and dropping'''. Depending on the number of messages that you move, it may take several minutes to be uploaded. Be patient; you are nearly finished.
