I have a mid 2011 macbook and i want to upgrade my RAM my laptop is currently crashed so i have to open it up to change the hard drive so i figured why not add the RAM. I need to know what type of RAM and if i can put in 2 matching 4gb RAM cards into it

Open your computer's user manual which has a section on adding Memory. I believe it should be:

When my screen goes to sleep and then the hard drive goes to sleep why won't the screen wake up?
I can repeat this 100% of the time. If I let the screen go to sleep (or I manually put it to sleep) and I shut the computer so the hard drive goes to sleep (or if the hard drive simply goes to sleep on the timer), when I open the Macbook Pro the screen will not wake up, although I think the hard drive does as the back light on the keyboard turns on. Any ideas on why this is happening. My computer is 4 weeks old...a bit frustrating. The best answer I have gotten is get a new one for Apple...or completely re-install the OS.
JaredThe reason why it's happening is not obvious and can't be determined without more information. The fact that you can reproduce the problem makes it a lot more tractable.
As a first step, boot in safe mode (shift key down at startup.) Can you reproduce the problem now? If so, note the time, then reboot as usual (not in safe mode) and look in the system log for error messages at the time the screen failed to wake up. -

I have an iMac 17" 1.83ghz intel core from 2006. I need to reformat the hard drive. Which system do I reinstall - the system disk in came with or can I install 10.6.8 which is what it's running now. And does the system have to be for an iMac?

Try this for making an external USB/DVD copy of Recovery on an external disk. internet is still required for reinstall, though, I believe: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4848. But at least you have a separate Recovery Partition if you ever need a fully new and empty internal disk.
Your assumption is incorrect. Although he may not be able to download it from the App store he can download it directly for the Apple servers using the recovery partition on his original drive.
All you have to do is start the install routine and then point the install to an external hard drive. Once the download is finished the computer will reboot to start the install. At that reboot disconnect the external drive so the install can not start. Boot the computer back into the OS on the internal hard drive, which is what will happen automatically once the external drive is disconnected. Then connect the external and copy the files from it that were downloaded. Right click on that downloaded package file and select Show contents. In the contents of that package is a file called InstallESD.DMG. Copy that file out of the package and burn it down to a DVD or USB thumb drive and you now have the Full Lion Installer. I have several of them laying around on different hard drives and 2 USB thumb drives which I have used to reinstall Lion on my 15" MBP.

I have an Ipad, I activated the time capsule with no issues. I added the airport Utility application without issue. However, I do not know how to access the hard drive with either my Windows computer or the Ipad. Does someone know how?
On windows load the airport utility .. latest correct version as possible.. there is no windows 8 but win7 works after a fashion.
Make sure the TC is using SMB compatible names.. short no spaces and pure alphanumeric.
Type the name directly into windows explorer.
\\TCname or \\TCIPaddress
If no luck turn off all the firewalls.. internal windows plus security software plus whatever other gargyoles and other rubbish AV software you have running.
Ensure windows is able to at least ping the TC by IP address and name..
Use the utility in windows to set file sharing to guest account on with full read and write access.. and set workgroup to WORKGROUP. -
Is it possible to boot windows solely from an external hard drive so that it does not affect the internal drive. I already know that you can partition the internal hard drive to do the very same. Idon't want to use any of the internal space to run windows so I'm asking if it is possible to use a flash drive or external drive through USB to run windows when it is plugged in.

YYosemite is a Mac OS and it doesn't run on an iPad. You cannot delete or install Safari on the iPad. It is on your device somewhere.
Swipe from screen to screen to look for it.
Check Settings>General>Restrictions and make sure that you didn't disable it.
You can also reset the home screen layout and the icon will reappear - but the home screen will return to the way that it looked when you first activated your iPad. Settings>General>Reset>Reset Home Screen Layout. -
I need to find a hard drive to stream films from not using the internet.
I am looking to purchase a hard drive that my partner can watch movies from on his iPad, he is in the Navy so won't have internet or a router to go through, I did find one on PC world but wasn't sure if it would actually work or not. has anyone got a hard drive that the iPad can connect to?
I agree. I've been researching these for a while and Seagate sounds pretty good.
However, before you buy it, please know that it is not simply plug and play. I read many reviews on Amazon and learned a lot about how it will work if we get one. And while you usually have to click on comments to see if there's more info that will also help, Seagate responds with boxed answers right under people's complaints/ concerns that can make the hard drive work properly. (I tend to over research most things like this before I buy them, but then I'm always happy with what I buy.) You might also want to google your question for reviews of the Seagate wireless mobile external and get professional tech reviews.
Making your decision and setting everything up will take time, but your partner will be able to enjoy movies, music, and books.

Crashed Hard Disk! What is the Hard Drive Data Recovery Service, & why wasn't it offered?
I thought I had purchased the best extended warranty available. Apparently the 3-year warranty I bought didn't include the Hard Drive Recovery Service. I can't help but wonder why it wasn't mentioned when I bought the extended warranty. Now I have a trashed HD, and am looking at where I go from here. I was told I should send the drive back to Toshiba... the manufacturer... for the most secure data recovery. WHAT NOW? who can steer me toward the best solution. Of course, I don't have unlimited funds... and someone said it would probably cost $500 to $1000 to recover the info on my HD. Arrgggh. Help.

Do you know anything about carbonite? Perhaps had I gotten that service, I wouldn't be in this position. I do back up a lot, when I'm at home. However, we have been traveling for a coupe of months... and I'm a photographer. Poof. photos. Important ones! The tech who looked at my drive after putting it in an enclosure said he didn't "see" any files on it. He said he HOPED I could get them recovered. Gave me a sick feeling, as he didn't seem very hopeful that even data recovery would work.

So my old PC died before I managed to back up my iTunes library onto DVDs. I do however have the hard drive from the old PC with all the program files, files and folders on. I also have the iPhone 4, which has my top rated playlist on but that only holds about 20% of my entire music collection on.
Is it possible to somehow find all my old iTunes music, videos, playlists, podcasts etc and transfer it into the iTunes on the new PC without losing anything?

When I right click on an image, then went to Go to Folder in Library, it pulls up the new external hard drive where I made the new link. When I try to work on the photos, the image still says file image is offline or missing. When I right click on the image to Show in Finder, it says the image could not be used because the original file could not be found. I eventually did click on their locate and found the image. When I linked those two together, a few minutes later ALL the "?" went missing and now IT WORKS!!!!
That was weird!
