I have a new computer. Do I need to have my old iTunes (version and apps) up to date before moving everything music over?
I don't want to leave anything out but I don't want to waste my time with updating on my old machine if I don't need to.
Sync is only oneway, from PC to your device. Unless you have the music on your PC, iTunes is going to wipe out what you have on your device if you are syncing to a new library.
You can only transfer Purchased music over to Itunes on your PC.

As for you own music and contents, you may have to use a third party software to copy over. A good Free one is called Sharepod which you can download from Download.com here:

I have an old itunes account and the music won't play on my new account
I have an old itunes account that I downloaded on my computer about 100 songs. I since then have started a new account and now my old music will not play at all and it says that my old itunes account has been locked out by itunes. What gives? I have over $100 worth of music I cannot access on my own computer?!

Why? Just update the info for your old account and continue to use that.
When you create new accounts, it's highly probable you will run into problems (as you can see).

More likely it says that your iTunes account has been locked for security reasons and that you need to contact the iTunes store to unlock it.

Your balance should be accessible wherever you are signed into the account. My account's balance shows at the top left of the store's page on my computer's iTunes, and by logging in to view my account via the Store > View Account menu option (that option will only show after you've signed in). -
Deauthorise just one computer for iTunes not all of them
You need to go to that computer, either physically or through Virtual Network Computing, before you can individually deauthorize it.

If the music on your iPod was downloaded elsewhere or ripped from CD's, you can't transfer that back to a computer or another iOS device, iPhones/iPads/iPods weren't designed for this. That has everything to do with music industry rights and legal stuff. -
Iphone 4 froze then turned off and said to plug into itunes, itunes said it detected an unknown iphone that needed to be restored and backed up before it could be used. Kept coming up with an error code of 3 something (341 maybe?) so I upgraded my itunes and restarted and now it just says it cannot restore. I received LR 5 for Christmas but have not downloaded it yet on my computer. I have had LR 3 for about 4 years. I am due to buy a new computer soon but need to know how many licenses/downloads I will get before downloading LR 5 on my current computer. I may also purchase a laptop in the next year so that would require 3 licenses altogether (current iMac, future iMac, future macbook).
You have one license.
You can download and install it on an infinite number of computers, as long as it is only installed on two of your computers at any one time, and in use on only one computer at any given time.
So in your case, current iMac, that's would mean its installed on one computer, no problem. Future iMac and future MacBook ... so if you uninstall from current iMac and install on Future iMac and future MacBook, it's now installed on two computers at a time, no problem, as long as you're not using Lightroom on both simultaneously. And if after that, you got two new computers and uninstalled Lightroom from the previous two, you're still good, it's only installed on two computers at any one time. -

In this complicated case, I think it's important that you get your work in.
The Photography Plan includes Lightroom 5 and Photoshop CC. Open an account with them and for $10 a month you can be back in business which I think nets you more than $10. It's what I do. You can do this immediately. You get two seats and they can be either Mac or PC.
In your spare time you can sort out the license issue and cancel the plan later on if this is fixed.
If you don't want to go there, then you will have to call Customer Service by phone and hope they can fix this.

I downloaded itunes on a new computer a while ago but was too afraid to syn. I did sync just now and lost 3.5 days of music, have checked my itunes music file and they arent there either. Im sure the music is all still on my old computer but it is broken and i cant access it. Are they all really gone forever?
Not without your old computer, no you can't. You could use Home Sharing to get content to your new one, but again, you would need access to the old one. My question is... before syncing to the new one... a message pops up warning you that syncing will erase the content from the iPod and replace it with the content in the new library. Did you ignore this warning?

I tried upgrading to leopard, even bought the software and brought it home but it wouldn't let me. So i went back to apple, gave them the specifications of the machine and been told my machine is simply too old for leopard. This is incredible to me because it really isn't THAT old (i think just a little over 6 years maybe) and yet i'm left out on the curb when it comes to using newer apple products. I understand technology moves on but the mindset that i am supposed to dump a perfectly working machine after a couple of years or face not being able to use any other apple product is counter to what thought apple was about. -

Let me see if I've gotten this right! You want to remove an account from BOTH machines? Do this for your new machine first, then for the other.
Click the Apple logo on the top left of the screen, System Preferences, Users and Groups (under Systems), unlock the lock in the window if its locked (you need to know the password), select the user that you wish to remove, and click the - sign next to the + sign for Login options. A window will pop up with some options. Select Delete this user and securely, and click 'Delete user'.
After this, do an update from the App Store.
Thats all there is to it.
For the other machine repeat the process except for one thing. Before you delete the user in this case YOU, you will have to give Administrator priviledges to your son bu checking the box 'Allow user to administer this computer'.
Do NOT do anything from Finder ... if you dont know how to fix the consequences of the problems caused.
There is no need to unauthorize your iTunes account on your new machine. Do it on the old machine though.
