I have a new iMac but iMovie 11 won't open - just crashes instantly?

Originally it did open but when asked to convert thumbnails from video in iPhoto when selecting this option to access these videos - it crashed.
I have tried deleting it the app and redownloading it but this hasn't worked and now it simply crashes on opening?

Hi:
Those files are in your home folder ( ~library>preferences). You can find the library by clicking on "go" in the menu bar while holding the option key down. With the release of OS X, Apple has hiddeen the library - I think because one can do a lot of damage if one fools around with much of the data there....

I have a new iMac, but it won't let me sync my playlists from my old iPod Nano to my iTunes library. How to do this?

The only options iTunes gives me is to erase my playlists and settings on my iPod; it won't let me download the playlists from my iPod to my iTunes account on my new iMac. If I do that, then I will have to manually re-enter every song on every playlist.
BTW - the advice on the Apple support pages doesn't help, because the screenshots they provide are completely different than what I have on my computer.
I did download the latest version of iTunes a few minutes ago.
I did authorize my computer to use this iPod.
Anyone have any ideas?

I have a mac air and an iMac and both have Pages. I use Pages on my air and save all documents to iCloud. I can see them on my iMac but it won't open with Pages. It becomes visible if I change it to open with preview but I can't interact with it.

They will open if I change it to open with preview but then all I can do is read it - I can't add to the document - All I want is to be able to see all my documents on all my devices and to be able to have them sync so I can add to the documents from any of my devices. I also have an iPhone 6 and an iPadair2 but I would be happy just to have the iMac and macair sync for starters. I have folders within folders in my documents,. The folders which contain pdf's and individual files open OK . The one I am having difficulty with is the file which I use for ongoing correspondence - in other words it is quite long - I keep adding to it ( by copying letters in and letters out so I can see a sequential history of what has been going on by scrolling down ) in date order so that it could be 1 - 100 pages long - but I don't think the size is a problem. I don't understand why some folders can open and others not . Has anyone any suggestions please. I have been trying to get this to work for months since iCloud drive came in. It has got much better but it is still not good enough - or maybe it's me?

All I can suggest is that you open that file on the MBA and save it as a new file, then see if you can open the new one on the iMac.

First I purchased any video converter from the ap store and then I connected the camera to the mac with the original usb cable that came with the camera. I turned on the camera and selected backup on pc and the logo came up on my home page. I opened it and after several attempts i found the 3 video files that were on the camera. I then converted them from a tod file to mp4 and then transfered them to imovie. Now I have to figure out how to send the video to youtube or move it to an external hard drive which I have not been able to do. So far I am not too fond of imovie 11. If you could send me the download for imovie 6 I then could try that route. When talking to apple support yesterday about the problem they suggested to get Final Cut Express. It's 200 bucks so before i order the install disc i would like to try your suggestion. My email address is [email protected] Again I thank you very much for your help! George

FCE was discontinued nearly 3 years ago and is no longer supported.
I don't know whether it's possible to install it on Mavericks and if you do it may not perform properly.
Final Cut pro X and iMovie are the only Apple apps that are supported.

Transfer Aperture to my new Imac byt it won't open.

What exactly happens? Where did you buy Aperture from originally, App Store, Box Set or Apple site digital download?
Pro Apps (of which Aperture is one) do not like being installed by being copied from one machine to another. While it sometimes works it is not recommended. There is this Pro Applications: Some features do not work if drag installed or if copied following an Archive and Install and this Pro Applications: Entering serial number after migrating causes the application to stop responding
So depending on how you first bought Aperture you should re-install it from the original media.

Adobe software is conflictive when you use Migration Assistant because their applications don't work properly after migration. If you keep the DVDs or the installers of your software, use them to reinstall all your Adobe applications and they should start working correctly

If it doesnt work after applyign patch try the below solutions:
Solution 1:
1. Close Elements.
2. Launch the Photoshop Elements Welcome Screen and hold down ctrl + alt + shift as you click Editor.
3. Continue to hold the keys until you see a message box asking if you want to delete Photoshop Elements settings file; click Yes. Elements will open with default preferences.
Solution 2: In case any network printer is attached try to launch without network or printer uninstall or make different printer as default.
Solution 3: Try launching with anti-virus off or removing PSE from conflicting list.
Solution 4:
On the drive on which you have installed PSE,on my machine it is on C:
Go to C:\Program Files\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 10\Locales\<locale>\Plug-Ins\Import-Exportand you will find twain plug-in. Remove that plug-in from that location and copy it somewhere else.
Now launch PSE and check if it works.

TS3634 I have a new iMac with iMovie '11

and a Sony handy cam HDR-SR11 that records in both SD and HD. Unfortunately, it does not seem to 'see' the SD videos nor does the Show drop down menu give me an option other than AVCHD. What to do?I would really appreciate some help with this issue. I purchased a iMac for the very reasons of making videos from new HD footage as well as older SD from the same camera as well as a mini DV that uses Firewire. Will an update solve this issue? My hard drive crashed on my apple computer recently. I have a new one, but it won't sync with apple tv1, and I want to retrieve my photos from teh appletv1. It appears in devices now, but won't let me go any further with it. Help

The Apple tv does appear in devices, but it won't let me go any further. The 'apply' button is a pale grey colour and you can't click on it. Help!!

there is no facility to recover your photos from the appletv.
the only way to link the appletv to your new "system" is to remove the existing itunes link and then link it to the new itunes - this will delete all content from the appletv though.

Also if you have used Time Machine feature to get applications back, then i would advise you to uninstall and reinstall applications.

I moved my Aperture educator's version onto my new iMac but now I cannot open my photos. Do I have to buy the latest version again?

Aperture 2 is not supported on OS X 10.9, in fact it has not been supported since 10.6. While some of the functions might work overall it will not run sufficient;ly well to use and corrupting your library is a real possibility.
So yes you will need to upgrade to the latest version of Aperture by buying it in the Mac App Store. Keep in mind that Apple has announced that Aperture is being discontinued. It will work with the new OS coming out in the fall but will be replaced by the new Photos app now being developed.
