I have a new iPhone 4 which I cannot sync until I upgrade to the latest version of iTunes software (version 10.2.2).  Upon trying to upgrade, I keep receiving a message which states, "The URL could not be opened."  Anyone else had the same problem & does anyone have a solution?  Would like to try other easier option(s) before uninstalling & installing newest version.

You need to buy and install a Mac OS X 10.6 DVD.

I have always been able to create playlists on itunes, then drag them to my ipod when it is plugged into the mac. I recently downloaded the latest version of itunes, and now am unable to do that. I can drag songs and albums to the ipod, but not my playlists. It used to be so easy, am I missing something here?

Plug your iPod into your computer, it will begin to sync. Now check to see if the playlists have been added.
If not, go to the songs tab under your iPod when it is connected to iTunes, Unless you have checked "Sync all songs (or something to those words)" you should have an option on what you can put on your iPod. Make sure to check the playlists that you want on your iPod.

  • Can't install or uninstall the latest version of iTunes

Everytime I go to install the latest version of iTunes I get through most of it, then a window comes up that says "Windows Installer" - "The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable." - "Click OK to try again, or enter an alternative path to a folder containing the installation package 'iTunes64.msi' in the box below."
In the drop down dox below the previously stated there are two options:
         1) C:\Users\"Username"\AppData\Local\Apple\Apple Software Update\
         2) C:\ProgramData\Apple Computer\Installer Cache\iTunes 10.5.0.142\
Neither of them work and I get the message: "The path 'C:\ProgramData\Apple Computer\Installer Cache\iTunes 10.5.0.142\iTunes64.msi' cannot be found. Verify that you have access to this location and try again, or try to find the installation package 'iTunes64.msi' in a folder from which you can install the product iTunes."
There is an option to Browse for the porgram but I can never find what it needs. Even when I attempt to uninstall iTunes I receive the same messages as above. I have WINDOWS 8.  I have looked through all the possible Troubleshoots on the Apple website and on the iTunes site and none of them helped. My iTunes works perfectly fine and does everything it is supposed to except when I attempt to install iTunes.  I have tried every way possible and still nothing works.
Below are the windows that appear when I attempt to install iTunes.  Any help would be appreaciated, I just really want to get the latest version of iTunes on my computer, it has been a while since I have.
I've tried installing the Windows Installer Clean Up but I can't even find that file to open it.
    SOMEONE HELP ME PLEASE!

    Superb detail, thank you.
    (1) Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility installer file (msicuu2.exe) from the following Major Geeks page (use one of the links under the "DOWNLOAD LOCATIONS" thingy on the Major Geeks page):
    http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4459
    (2) Doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file and follow the prompts to install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. (If you're on a Windows Vista or Windows 7 system and you get a Code 800A0046 error message when doubleclicking the msicuu2.exe file, try instead right-clicking on the msicuu2.exe file and selecting "Run as administrator".)
    (3) In your Start menu click All Programs and then click Windows Install Clean Up. The Windows Installer CleanUp utility window appears, listing software that is currently installed on your computer.
    (4) In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any iTunes entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:
    (5) Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly this time?

  • The URL could not be opened

Previously I used Itunes and the music store without problem but recently every time i try to enter the music store, itunes shuts down. If I try to 'provide Itunes feedback" under the help menu, I get the message "The URL could not be opened". I reinstalled itunes (version 4), and cannot update to 7 as I can't successfully enter the music store. Any ideas??

Ok but in this case seems to me longer than before (when updates were loaded directly from iTunes) it seems to me that every time is re-installing all as it computes available space om disk...

I downloaded the latest version of iTunes on my PC.  Now I cannot open iTunes.  I receive the following error message: "The procedure entry point AVCFAssetCreateWithByteStreamAndOptions could not be located in the dynamic link library AVfoundationCF.dll"  After pressing the "OK" button I receive a second error message: 'iTunes not installed correctly.  Please reinstall iTunes.  Error 7 (Windows error 127)".  I've uninstalled iTunes and reinstalled to no avail.  I've also eliminated the temp files (per suggestions on the trouble-shooting page) and no luck.  I also tried system restore and that did not fix the problem.  Any thougths on a repair?

Taken at face value, you're having trouble with an Apple Application Support program file there. (Apple Application Support is where single copies of program files used by multiple different Apple programs are kept.)
Let's try something relatively simple first. Restart the PC. Head into your Add or Remove Programs control panel, select "Apple Application Support", click "Change" and then click "Repair".
If no joy after that, try the more rigorous uninstall/reinstall procedure from the following post. (Although the procedure is for Vista and 7 and you've got XP, just read "Computer" as "My Computer", read "Uninstall a program control panel" as "Add or Remove programs control panel" and assume the system is 32-bit, and you'll be doing the right things.)

Trying to update my iTunes but keep getting the error message "the URL could not be opened" what does this mean and how do I resolve this? It's always worked fine in the past!

Select a broken track and press ctrl-i to Get Info. Look on the summary tab for the location where iTunes "thinks" the file should be. Where is it really? Post back the two locations and I can suggest the best approach.

I'd first try downloading an installer from the Apple website using a different web browser:

If you use Firefox instead of IE for the download (or vice versa), do you get a working installer?

  • My iPod cannot be synced because the required file could not be found.  How do I fix this problem?

Peace.  My name is Free.  Thanks in advance for any help u can offer.  My iPod cannot be synced because the required file could not be found.  How do I fix this problem?

    Hi antiklady,
I see that you may be having an issue with compatibility of iTunes when connecting your iOS device. This sort of issue can arise if you have two versions of iTunes installed on your computer, which I feel may be the case. Here is an article that can tell you how to identify the version of iTunes that you have open:
iTunes: How to find which version you are using - Apple Support
    http://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201521
If the version of iTunes that is opened is not the version you are required to use for the iOS device in question, try searching through your computer or applications folder to see if there may be two versions of iTunes installed on your computer. Then, uninstall the version that is incompatible using these steps:
Remove and reinstall iTunes and related software components for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8 - Apple Support

Take care, and thanks for visiting the Apple Support Communities.

If you run into the "another installation" message even after the reboot of the PC (which is an excellent idea by HTP ProXy), reregistering your Windows Installer Service is worth a try.
First, launch a command prompt as an administrator. In your Start search, type cmd then right-click on the cmd that comes up and select "Run as administrator".
    At the command prompt:
Type %windir%\system32\msiexec.exe /unregister and hit enter.
Type %windir%\syswow64\msiexec.exe /unregister and hit enter.
Type %windir%\system32\msiexec.exe /regserver and hit enter.
Type %windir%\syswow64\msiexec.exe /regserver and hit enter.
Restart the PC and try another reinstalll.

Perhaps check to see if you're accidentally running two different versions of iTunes. There's some information on troubleshooting that in the Opening iTunes section of the following document:

If your using windows firewall, might want to check that itunes is aloud through it.
    control panel> windows firewall.
then in settings or properties , there should be an exceptions tab and have a look for itunes in there (if its not there, click add a program and browse to itunes and add it in).
if you use another firewall program might want to try and find out how to check if a program is aloud through it.
