I have a new iphone need to dissasociate my old one from my account?

I have purchased a new Iphone. My mother in law is to have my old one. I have now had all my contacts etc transferred over but I am tad scared of restoring my old phone to factory settings as I don't want to wipe all the data of my new one- any ideas please? I have logged into my account and it only seems to be showing my new phone.

Go to iTunes > about iTunes. What version are you running? If necessary, hold down the option key while starting iTunes and create a new, test library so it will start.

You can transfer the purchases you made on your old iPhone 3 by plugging it in to iTunes and doing File > Devices > Transfer Purchases from your IPhone to the iTunes on your computer. This will get music you purchased in iTunes, apps, etc. (e.g., movies).

Since you have purchased a new Mac (which, BTW, is not typed in all capitals) why not buy a Time Capsule <http://www.apple.com/airport-time-capsule/> which is designed specifically to work with OS X and Time Machine?
You don't say what part of your Sony "crashed." If it was not the HDD it is possible to take the computer apart, put the HDD in an external case, then recover the data off of it (including the music) simply drag-n-drop. If it was the HDD that "crashed" that makes it more difficult.
If you are able to recover the music from the Sony you can then add it to the iTunes library on the Mac and iTunes Match will then scan, match and upload the tracks to be mirrored in the cloud.

I've been careful not to erase my iPod, but even when I plug it in, my library is blank. I tried following the directions for creating separate iTunes libraries for each iPod, but pretty sure I did something wrong, even though I followed the directions step by step.

HT1766 why won't itunes do a complete backup of my iphone so that my new iphone is identical to my old one?

i plug my phone in, and right click on it and select backup. Then plug in my new one and restore it from the latest one, but it won't back the apps up. Contacts, calender, music, etc - all good. Just not apps.

I believe when you plug her old iPhone in to your computer it will notify you that the phone is synced with another library and ask if you want to register it with your library. At least this is how iPods work. I'm not sure about iPhones. If you want to actually use the phone as your own you may need to go through AT&T.
If you're just looking to use the iPhone as an iPod (without the phone portion of it) you may run in to some problems. The iPhone really wants to be on a cell network all the time. I think you'd have to jailbreak it to get it to work properly as an iPod.
Let us know what happens when you plug the phone in to your computer.
