But unlocked phones don't have a contract to begin with. If you purchased a phone with a contract, it is not unlocked.

Correct. When you did that, you voided all warranty/support, & forfeited the right to an out of warranty replacement.

And, exactly, how do you know that? Since Apple DOES NOT sell iPhone parts, there is no official source for genuine parts. Thus, many on the market are counterfeit & produce nothing but problems.

Apple does not have an exchange program.
By the time you purchase the required materials to change the case from black to white and the expense to do so, you would be better off selling the black iPhone and use the proceeds to purchase a white one.

To keep from losing purchases you will both need to continue sharing the Apple ID for purchases.
I would reccommend you both create new Apple IDs for iCloud, iMessage and FaceTime and keep the current one to share purchases in the iTunes & App Stores.
Use shared ID here:
Settings > iTunes & App Stores
Use individual IDs here:
Settings > iCloud
Settings > Messages
Settings > FaceTime
Settings > Game Center

Go to Settings>iCloud and set up the same iCloud account using the same ID and password on your second phone as on your first. Then turn syncing for your data (contacts, calendars, etc.) to On, and when prompted, choose Merge. If you haven't activated the second phone you specify the iCloud account during the setup process; just use the same iCoud account name and password.

OK, try this: First make sure that all anti-virus software & any firewalls are completely turned off...nothing running. Then do the following:
Turn your phone off...in your case, it's already off, so proceed: Leave the USB cable connected to your computer, but NOT your phone, iTunes running, press & hold the home button while connecting the USB cable to your dock connector, continue holding the home button until you see “Connect to iTunes” on the screen. You may now release the home button. iTunes should now display that it has detected your phone in recovery mode, if not quit and reopen iTunes. If you still don’t see the recovery message repeat these steps again. iTunes will give you the option to restore from a backup or set up as new.

If Firefox is set as the default browser then it is possible that links that open the default browser will now open Firefox.

You may have to set Safari again as the default browser.

i had one for a long time, then when i got the ipad i didn't realize they would all still work under one so i set up the second one on that
then when i got the new iphone i put in the info for the first and main one from my mac pro and it would not work at all, and i knew it was right, then it asked me to create a new one or i couldnt finish the setup
hence why i have 3 now
hard to believe you cannot combine into one

When I go into my account settings and try to change my old hotmail address to my current Yahoo! address, it tells me "That email address is already used as an Apple ID." Yeah, I know that. I set up the account that I'd really, really, like to have together, but it won't let me go further. End of activity! It is trusting that my email account and password are correct b/c it will let me make purchases, etc., so it's not like it is preventing fraud or anything. You could also store the files on a home machine and pay for a professional hosting service so you could stream them over your own account (assuming your ISP connection and agreement allows for the bandwidth used). You would still need to deal with the issue of finding an app for the iPad that supported avi streaming.
