i ran a performance check and was told i need to free up d drive which is down to 13%. i used disk clean up, deleted all temporary files and browser files. which i do this everytime befoer i log off, also i defraged. im not sure what to do now there is nothing that i could find on the hp website. please give me some advice, thank you

runing outa space on the drve time for an external hard drive i think
defragging and deleting temp files only frees a little bit of space up
you could carefully remove unnessicary programs in add remove programs but be very very careful in there dont wanna delete a lotta things there

What is happening or not happening with Windows 8.1 that you think a BIOS update would help? The latest BIOS is F.21 and HP has not issued any Windows 8/8.1 support for that model, which was originally a Vista machine.

HP Pavilion DV5 1235DX - DVD/CDRW Not Working

Recently the DVD/CDRW drive in my HP Pavilion has stopped working. This is the original drive that came with the laptop which is a LightScribe SuperMulti 8X DVD±R/RW with Double Layer Support. It has had a couple of problems in the past that like the system ceasing to recognize it or not being able to open the drive that I was able to fix myself. However, now the drive won't read or recognize discs. The Computer recognizes the drive, lists it as operable, and all drivers are up to date. When I insert a DVD/CD there are no sounds or lights to indicate that it is trying to read a disc. Also, I can only open the drive either mechanically or through the Device Manager by clicking on "scan for hardware changes." It will no longer open any other way.
Is this something that I can fix? or does this indicate that the drive is dead and needs to be replaced? If so, I've had a little trouble identifying a replacement model on the HP website for PartSurfer and could use a suggestion. Also, if anyone is familiar with the issue i've been having as described above and is aware of a solution I'll be happy to try this first. Thanks!

Pavilion dv5 1235dx, how to recovery Vista 64

Vista was gone ( I made a mistake on it ), then I installed window 7 with non license. How can I recovery Vista for it ? Please help me ?

Only option i see is you can try F11 option once unit is powered on & check if the partition is active for Vista you can run a recovery from there or else you might have to order the recovery disc for your unit.

How to Install a parallel port printer to usb port of Pavilion dv5 Notebook

In trying to install my HP DeskJet 610C Parallel Port printer to my HP Pavilion dv5-1235dx Notebook PC with Windows Vista Home Premium 64-bit, I followed instructions given by HP Support some two years back.
I connected up the two units through a Parallel-to-USB ports cable. The PC loaded and confirmed suitable driver. (Following advice from sites on the Internet, I have made repeated attempts to carefully install the printer, but to no avail).
Upon my issuing the Print instruction, the printer invariably prints two copies of what appears to be 'gibberish' in two lines at the start of the sheet. Thereafter it picks up and then ejects 6-8 sheets of blank paper.
Any help in resolving this anomalous situation will be be most welcome and much appreciated.
I might add that the printer works normally when connected in parallel to an older, Compaq Armada 1750 Notebook (XP OS). In this instance too, the Parrallel/USB worked as in the Pavilion PC, above.

Sounds like you have a communication problem with the printer cables. Have you tried a new parallel to USB cable or adapter?

4 keys not working! (Pavilion dv5)

I have a Pavilion dv5-1135ee with windows vista 32bit installed
4 keys on my laptop suddenly decided to stop working, there's nothing spilled on them, they don't look damaged, the keys are: "T", "Y", "{" and "}".
I don't know if this is relevant but also all of a sudden sound decided to come out of the laptop speakers only when the headphones are plugged in!
What should I do??

Pavilion dv5-1388nr Entertainment Notebook "No audio device is installed"

I have a Pavilion dv5-1388nr Entertainment Notebook with Windows Vista. The sound is not working. Neither the built in speakers nor headphones will emit any sound. I have attempted to re-install the driver for the sound card but it didnt work. Can someone please walk me through how to fix it? thank you!!!

Is the Model No. you've posted correct? If it's a dv5-1138nr, try the following
Download the IDT Audio installer on the link below and save it to your Downloads folder.

When done, open windows Control Panel, open Device Manager and open up Sound, Video and Game Controllers. Right click the IDT device and select Uninstall - you should also get a prompt to remove the current driver, tick the box to allow this and then proceed with the uninstall.
When complete,download and reinstall the Chipset driver on the following link.
Chipset Driver - Windows Vista 64bit.
When the reinstallation has completed, shut down the notebook, unplug the AC Adapter and then remove the battery. Hold down the Power button for 30 seconds. Re-insert the battery and plug in the AC Adapter.
Tap away at the esc key as you start the notebook to launch the Start-up Menu and then select f10 to enter the bios menu. Press f5 to load the defaults ( this is sometimes f9, but the menu at the bottom will show the correct key ), use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter. Press f10 to save the setting and again use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter.
Let Windows fully load - it will automatically load an audio driver, but just let this complete. Then open your Downloads folder, right click on the IDT installer and select 'Run as Administrator' to start the installation. When this has completed, right click the speaker icon in the Taskbar and select Playback Devices. Left click 'Speakers and Headphones' once to highlight it and then click the Set Default button - check if you now have audio.

I have a Pavilion DV5 and the screen has gone black basically it has no light because if i focus I can see the content on the page but its like really dark so i think the light on it went off. And i wanted to know if HP can fix that even though my warranty has expired even if i have to pay for it. Or if anyone knows of where i can get it fixed. I live in Bakersfield California

Hi Mayor101, welcome to the HP Forums. It sounds like the graphics drivers are not installed, or the resolution is not set correctly. What is the model or product number of your DV5? What version of Windows is installed?

Sound Delay Problem on Pavilion DV5 1138 NR

I have this Pavilion DV5 1138nr Entertainment Notebook PC, and I also have a 23" HP monitor (w2338h). It is also connected through HDMI. The only problem is that there is a horrible sound delay in the built in speakers. So basically, it's like when I go to shut down my computer, it cuts out the first part of the sound, and same when I start it up. Or if I just get an error message, it cuts out the first part. Is there any way to fix this problem?

I have done all this myself! i need to figure this out asap cause i video dj using vdj and it used to work! i use my hdmi extended monitor a vizio tv that had videos playing on it and i would dj on my laptop! i've done this may times before! i had it setup ready to go did a few tracks and everything was working fine i left it as is and let the other dj go first and he was using his equipment! then when i turned my tv back on from the setting i had left them at didn't touch anything and the videos weren't working! so there has to be something that has just happened and i want to know what it was lol! my laptop shows that it has a monitor connected but, there is no video or sound that i had before! someone i need to figure it out by 11/18/11

Hp dv5-1235dx not powering on

Hello all form the Caribbean! I have a problem that I haven't been able to solve, I hope that someone can assist me in solving this problem.
I have a Hp dv5-1235dx that was working fine until the battery failed. I got a new battery for the laptop and it started to work great once more. Then the charger failed and I replaced that also. Up to two months ago my laptop was working great and then my wife was watching a DVD and the screen froze. Disconnected the battery and powercord because the powerbutton wasn't responding to me tring to switch off the system. Tried to power it up and the led on the power chord port was slowly flashing once, pause, once, pause constantly. Saw in a forum that it was the power chord/addapter so I replaced that once more. Now the laptop isn't coming on no matter what.
Took out the battery to see if it will start with the power chord only. Nothing.

I dont know it is possible and which model is compatible with my motherboard. Any idea to lead me take best graphic card for my notebook ?

Cant turn on my hp pavilion dv5 1140en

Hi, i have hp pavilion dv5 1140en. Yesterdy i used it only with battery and when it become too low it turned off.
Looks like standart situation, but now i can turn it on. When i press power button laptop starts to work - all led buttons are blinkig (hdd in red color), display is black, bu fan is working.
I cgarged battery full, but its work like this with it and also without it (with power cord).
Please help me to solve this!

I understand your computer will physically turn on but it will not show an image on the screen, is that correct? I will try to assist you with this issue.
If you have access to a external monitor you can use the VGA connection & cable to hook the laptop to it. if that is possible you can test and see if the external monitor receives a feed from the computer.

Pavilion dv5-1140ec no power

Gentlemens,
I have a pavilion dv5-1140ec. Few days ago I turn off the notebook via start menu in Windows (correctly). Next day I try turn on the notebook, but without effect. Lighting only led near by AC connector on right side of notebook. Battery is inserted, but charging led no light. i check adapter via electric meter, Voltage is approx.12 V. This is ok I think, because other notebook start with this adapter without any problem... So I remove bottom cover, keyboard, speakers, mother board and I try find fuse on mainboard. I think, this is a problem, because nothing start (fan, hdd, leds). i download a service manual, but inside is only numbers of spare parts, how to disassemble, etc.
Any one, who have a scheme of motherboard?
PS: I try start notebook, with battery and AC, without battery and with AC, with BIOS battery, without BIOS battery... and other combinations.

I removed old IRF 822 FET SMD transistor and placed new. Now notebook starting without any problems.
(I placed piece in TO220 package, because smd version is not accessible)
