I have a pk5000 actiontec modem

I'm getting a time capsule and I have a pk5000 actiontec modem/router what would be the best way of setting this up? I want the time capsule to be my primary wireless router
Thanks

I want the time capsule to be my primary wireless router
In that case, the Actiontec will need to be configured as a simple bridge mode modem.
Check with your ISP to find out......
1) If this is even possible
2) If they will support this type of setup
3) How to set it up the PK5000 as a simple modem

  • Communicating with Actiontec modem/router

I have an Actiontec MI424WR Rev. F, working fine and serving a few devices.
One of them is a linksys E1200 router
    Looking at:
advanced > IP Address Distribution > Connection List  > DHCP Connections
I can see all devices except the Linksys E1200 router.
Embarrassing - but I know why I don't see it.
I (by mistake) 'clicked' the 'Remove' button just after making it 'static'.
The Linksys E1200 router is functioning. It is 'known' and recognized by Actiontec
as evident from: Main > My Network (as "192.168.1.7" )
And: My Network > Network Status
I was trying to 'clean' the setup and to this end,
I'm seeking expertise in communicating with this Actiontec modem/router,
so I can 'ask' it to redisplay the E1200.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Did you assign the Linksys a static IP address in the Linksys WAN interface?
If so, it won't appear in the DHCP connection list, but will appear on the main status page and the network status page.
If you didn't assign the Linksys a static IP address in its WAN interface and it is getting its WAN IP address via DHCP, then it should reappear in the DHCP connection list the next time it renews its DHCP lease with the Actiontec, which could be as long as 12 hours since the Actiontec's LAN DHCP lease interval is 24 hours.   You can force the Linksys to request a new DHCP lease by rebooting the Linksys.
BTW, the Actiontec is a MOCA capable router.  It is not a modem.

  • Trying to convert old Actiontec modem into coax-Ethernet converter

I have FIOS available in the house through coax.  One room had the old Actiontech with the computers, and various media devices throughout the house are running off wireless with shakey connections.
I bought a new Actiontec-MI424WR that I want to put in the main family room.  That would leave the computers in the different other stuck on wireless. I want to reconfigure the old Actiontec modem to connect to the coax in the room and wired Ethernet to the computers.  I have searched at length on this topic and cannot locate an answer (or at least one that I can understand - my tech level is not strong).  In the alternative, if there is some different device to buy that I can used between the coax and the Ethernet, that works too.
    Any guidance is appreciated.

If I understand corrrectly  what you're hoping to accomplish I would suggest you use an Actiontec ECB 2200 MoCA adapter.
You could use your old router as the coax-to-Ethernet convertor but it would require considerably more configuration.  The ECB 2200 is plug-and-play...no configuring required.
The 2200 has a coax input and Ethernet output.   If you need more than a single Ethernet output you could use a simple Ethernet splitter, again requiring no configuration.
I use an ECB 2200 here to extend our LAN to the other end of our house and I get the same 75/35 mb/s speeds that I get when connected by Ethernet directly to my Actiontec Rev I router.

  • I have a Westell 6100G modem.  I want to set up Airport Express for wireless.  Can someone tell me how to do it step by step.  I'm using an HP with Windows Vista.  I'm a tech idiot.

Just got Airport Express to save on GBs of data.  I have already a Westell 6100G which is for use as Internet Broadband, via Verizon.  How do I set up the Airport Express with this Westell.  Do I even still need the Westell, or do I need to also buy a wireless router?  I'm a tech idiot and this is driving me nuts.

The Westell 6100G is a combination modem and router or gateway device. The AirPort Express is a wireless router.
Since the Express does not have a built-in modem, you will still need your Westell gateway in order to access the Internet.
Which exact model of AirPort Express do you have. It will be written (in very hard to read type on a label on one of the AirPort's sides). It should look something like: A1392. It may also state a Order#. In that case it would look something like: MC414LL/A
Regardless of which model you have, the basic network configuration would be that you would connect an Ethernet cable between the Westell's Ethernet port and the WAN (circle of dots) port on the Express. (Note: If you have an earlier model of the Express, you would connect the cable to the only Ethernet port on the Express.)
The good news is that you will not have to make any configuration changes to the Westell. We should be able to use it as configured.
What we are going to start with is getting a basic Wi-Fi network that should provide your computer with wireless access to the Internet. Once verified as working, we can fine-tune this network to include wireless security and any other goals that you may have.
    Ready to start?
I would recommend that you do the following as a minimum:
    Power-down the Westell and computer(s).
While all of the devices are powered-down, perform a "factory default" reset on the AirPort Express base station. This will get it back to its "out-of-the-box" configuration and make setting it up much easier, especially if you use the "Assist me" process within the AirPort Utility. (ref: Resetting an AirPort Base Station or Time Capsule)
Once the reset has completed, remove the AirPort Express from power.
Connect an Ethernet cable between the Westell and the AirPort Express.
Power-up the Westell; wait at least 10-15 minutes to allow it adequate time to initialize.
Power-up the AirPort base station; wait at least 5-10 minutes. Note: The AirPort's status light may continue to flash amber after it has intialized. That is because, there may be some additional configuration items necessary, like setting up wireless security, before the overall setup is completed to get a green status.
    Power-up your computer(s).
In this basic configuration, the AirPort base station will broadcast an unsecured wireless network with a Network Name (SSID) of Apple Network NNNNNN. Network clients, connected to the base station either by wire or wireless, should now be able to access the Internet through the ISP's modem. Once Internet connectivity has been verified, you can use the AirPort Utility to configure the base station for wireless security and any other desired options. Please post back your results.

  • My computer is slow on the internet and even stops at times, i have 98mbps to the modem but only 20 mbps and sometimes less on a ping test- what is wrong? i am using a wireless connection do i need to upgrade my wireless modem in the mac?

  • HT1331 I just bought a airport wireless router I have a time warner cable modem. I have hook up the modem correctly to my new apple airport router and my modem is not working with the apple airport router. what do i need to do?

I just bought a airport wireless route and I have a time warner modem. My problem is my modem is not connecting to my apple airport router. What do I need to do?

Power cycle the cable modem.. you may try leaving it off 5min.. might be enough.. sometimes you need 15min or even longer.. Followed by power cycle of the AE.
Nothing else should be connected to the modem.. except the router that will get the public IP as they only hand out ONE>

  • I have a WRT54G Wireless modem with firmware version 1.02...

I have a WRT54G Wireless modem with firmware version 1.02.1 Mar 4 2003. i down loaded the latest firmware for the modem but i can't install it. I get the erroe message"incorrect image file".
    What is wrong?

Which version of the WRT54G do you have?  If it is not clearly stated on the router, go to Wikipedia.org and search for WRT54G, then you can use your router's serial number to determine which version of the router you own.
The version of the router is important.  Each version has a different set of hardware in it, so each version takes a different firmware.
You can only load the firmware that corresponds to your model and version.

  • IBook G4 WPA compatibility with Actiontec Modem Router

Installed Actiontec modem/router on my XP desktop, and enabled WPA encryption for wireless security. Strong signal on both the desktop and iPod Touch. However, my iBookG4 won't pick up signal unless I disable WPA security option. It should be compatible with WPA... Any options other than creating a WEP 26-digit key?

Hi halfbacks, and a warm welcome to the forums!
Is this the original 802.11b only card, or the extreme b/g card?

  • My internet continually disconnects.  When I added my airport express, I had to call Verizon (my provider) and have them "bridge" my modem.  Ever since, my connection constantly disconnects and puts up the message "Could not find a PPPoE server".

Any ideas?  I probably have something wrong in my computer settings.

You should restore your modem to router condition and set the Airport Express to 'Bridge Mode'. A full explanation and the method of doing this is here:

  • Using my Actiontec modem's wifi, it doesn't find my new airport express.  When I use the new airport express network I created error message says ip address is wrong.  Help setting this new airport express up

Using my Actiontec modem's wifi, it doesn't find my new airport express.  Using the new airport express network I just set up it says the ip address is invalid.  What can I do to overcome this blinking amber light and error messages?

You need to begin by configuring the AEX to Join an existing network (Bridge Mode.) You can then connect to it using Wi-Fi, but the AEX will not extend your existing network.
If you can connect the AEX to your existing router using Ethernet, then you could use it to Create a new network. Otherwise, if you want to extend your existing network you will need to get a Wireless Access Point - WAP - from a non-Apple product like D-Link.

  • I have att u verse modem and it wifi was not working. So i got netgear wifi an d i connected my apple tv via ethernet cable to att uverse modem . i did not want slow dowm my wi fi speed. Now airplay is not working .

i have att u verse modem and it wi fi was not working. So i got net gear wi fi  and connected to att modem .  i connected my apple TV via Ethernet cable to att uverse modem . i did not want slow down my wi fi speed.  My Apple phone is on Netgear wifi .Now airplay is not working .

Make sure that the Att Modem goes to the netgear router via ethernet cable. Then connect your Apple Tv with a ethernet cable to the back of the net gear router. Airplay wants it to both be connected to the same device, usually.

  • I have a surfboard sbg6580 modem  would it work with air port extreme

    Yes.

  • EA6400 with a Telus Actiontec modem/router

I've been using the Telus modem/router for a while, and it has worked fine. Once we moved to the new place the signal got a little weak in the rooms farthest from the router, but its a little 2 bedroom single floor condo ... it's not that big. At any rate, our LG SMart TV was crapping out on Netflix, and we would get poor quality and the movie was having troubles playing without reloading, etc. So we though that buying a dual band router might fix it.
Here is how it is set up.
The main router is the Actiotec. It is plugged into the internet through a telephone cable - I believe this is DSL. The Actiontec wifi is on, and I am not bridging the router (I would rather not, as it looks a little intimidating, and the Telus HD boxes are connected to it. I have plugged the EA6400 into one of the 4 ethernet plugs, not WAN, using it as a secondary router.
The 5GHz is working great. Netflix is smooth and worry-free. But the 2.4GHz drops often, so we have to connect to the main router's wifi, which does not allow us to use the 6400's USB port for sharing printers, drives, etc.
Should I trade the Actiontec for a dedicated modem?
Is there a way to EASILY make the 6400 more stable?
Am I doing it right? I imagined being able to set up the 6400 as an AP ... was I wrong?
    ANY help is appreciated!

As another suggestion, If the modem can't be bridged then see if the modem has a DMZ option and input the IP address the router gets from the modem and put that into the modems DMZ.

  • Is Actiontec modem-router vulnerable to Heartbleed?

Does Heartbleed affect the Actiontec GT784WNV modem-router?
We have one from Verizon for our Verizon DSL.
If the Actiontec is affected, when will Verizon send a firmware update?

When trying to access my Verizon ActionTec router from INSIDE my private LAN (https://192.169.1.1), why is my security software alert me of an potential SSL Certificate compromise?
My AntiVirus suite provides this alert:
"Cannot guarantee authenticity of the domain to which encrypted connection is established"
Application: Internet Explorer  (although the same occurs in Chrome),
    URL:  ORname_Jungo: OpenRG Products Group
    Reason:  (blank)"
Who is that URL and why is it on the Verizon router?

  • Actiontec Modem/Router

I have an Actiontec MI424 and it is always giving me problems with dropped connections all day long - it's starting to become a nuisance. I'm talking when the laptop is literally 3 ft away from it (so we're not talking about the signal having to to navigate its way through the house). And the very same laptop performs just fine on every other wireless network I've ever used it on. Why does Verizon use such offbrand modems/routers? You have Linksys and Netgear out there which it would seen are much higher quality.
Has anyone had this problem? And if so, were you able to resolve it?

    1. Actiontec and Westell were willing to build routers to Verizon specs
    2. MONEY-  Actiontec and Westell are cheaper. This is the primary reason. Verizon doesnt guarentee a wireless signal and therefore do not consider it to be worth their while to provide
Yes, MANY people have problems with the wireless on the Actiontec and Westell. Many people just add another router (linksys, netgear, Dlink, ect.) to the network and just use them for the wireless. Basically just using the Verizon like a modem.
