I have a powerbook G4 and want to transfer files (by linking?) to an iMac

I currently have a powerbook G4 and am thinking of buying an iMac for the house. Can the two be linked for fast and easy transfer of files? If not what would be the easiest way to share the days work on the powerbook G4 with the imac?
Also can the two monitors be used simultaneously to drag windows from one to the other, like you can with the powerbook G4 and Cinema display?

Hello and welcome,
There are a few ways to transfer files. You can set up a local network using an Airport and turn file sharing on your machines so that you can log into your iMac from the PowerBook or vise-versa.
You can also set up the PowerBook to run in FireWire Target Disk Mode (reboot and hold T until the PowerBook shows the FireWire Symbol on the screen). This will mount your PowerBook's drive on you iMac's desktop. You can access the PB's HD like you would any other drive.
As for monitors, you can connect a second monitor to the iMac using a mini-DVI to DVI or mini-DVI to VGA adapter. You can not connect the PowerBook to your iMac and be able to use the iMac as a second monitor, thus you could not drag objects from the PB's screen to the iMac's screen.
Connecting using the above methods is simple and gives you straightforward access to your connected PowerBook. FireWire will be faster than sending data via Airport connection; however for most relatively small files will transfer via Airport fast enough for daily use.

You can sync iOS apps from your compute's iTunes library to your iPod. An iPod will only run iOS apps/games. It will not run or even sync computer apps/games.

OM gosh!  After working on this for 2 days, by golly, I got it!  I used Free App DVD Creator.  I had first tried to burn the disc in PAL Format.....wrong format for the good 'ol USA.  After a little research I learned that the USA format is NTS.....so I chose that and it worked!  I now have a disc I can play on our dvd player on the TV.  Thanks all for above assistance.  Problem now solved!

  • HT201302 I have an iPod touch, and want to transfer all my photos (taken over the last year) to my Windows 8 PC, how can I do this?

I believe it's 4th gen - it does have a camera (hence all the photos).
I don't want to update it to the latest iOS since I'm concerned it will slow it down too much, but it is running 5.1 I believe.
I have a Windows 8 PC and have just installed iTunes, and iCloud panel. Photostream doesn't seem to import old photos, though I've tried this route. I can't find the "enable disk use" button in the new iTunes, and when I try and open the iPod through the start menu I just find an empty DCIM folder.
Any help is much appreciated! Thank you!

On Windows, the drivers responsible for recognizing an iOS device as a camera are built into the Windows operating system. The steps below may help identify a driver-installation issue and resolve it by reinstalling these drivers. Before starting, find out if you have Windows 7 N edition. If so, see the additional information section below for a required Media Pack to recognize cameras.
From the "Unable to import photos" page.
Does Windows 8 not have these drivers? Is there a fix?

  • I have a new pc, and want to transfer my itunes library, help me?

I got a new computer today, it upgrades and old laptop that I'm currently running itunes off. its connected to the new computer by a wireless network, but I cna figure out how to rtansfer my library. I'm not a computer whiz, but I dont know what to do, any help would be MOST appreciated.
    thanks!

Apple covers how to do this with an iPod here http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=300173
If you do not have an iPod and have an external Hard Drive you can still follow most the steps there to transfer your iTunes to your PC, just replace the words/steps for iPOd with "External Harddrive"
Wireless isn't that heavly recommended for this because of how wireless can suddenly drop signal, but you can just copy the whole iTunes folder and send it over to the new PC over your network. Keep in mind tho any music you have outside the iTUnes folder will not transfer over and will show up in iTunes on the new PC with a ! mark beside it

  • I have a Iphone 42 and want to transfer my photos to my PC why does my computer not recognise the Iphone when I connect it to the pc?

Can any help. I want to transfer photos on my Iphone 4s to my PC, my computer will not recognise the phone when I connect via the USB port to the PC.  Any Ideas would be appreciated.

Do you get any response from the computer when you plug the phone in? I'm guessing that you are going into Computer to see if you find the phone? If you go into Device Manager, do you see any errors in the USB area?

  • I have a 2007 macbook with a cracked unviewable screen and want to transfer files to a new imac.  Is there a way to do this?

I have a 2007 Macbook with a cracked (unviewable) screen.  I want to transfer all files from the Macbook to an Imac but have no way of seeing whats on the Macbook.  How can this be done??

Yes. Put the old MacBook into Target Disk Mode then connect it to your iMac using a FireWire cable. Note that if your iMac is a new one, you may need to use a FW400 (which is what the MacBook has) to FW800 adapter.
Once the two computers are connected, use the Migration Assistant to do the actual transfer.
    Best of luck.

  • I have a PowerBook G4 and want to update software but cant

The software i have now is leopard? (10.5.8) and i want to update my laptop to the Snow Leopard (10.6) but I believe i have a 'power pc' which i dont know what that is or what that means but i read that I can not update to snow leopard because of the powerpc..... Can anyone help me with how to update my software?

Just to clear any confusion you may have, PPC (PowerPC) refers to the processor - designated G3, G4 or G5 and made formerly by Motorola and latterly by IBM. The last of these was discontinued in 2005 when Apple switched all new models to Intel processors.
While Leopard has code for both processors, Snow Leopard does not - it drops the PPC processor support and will work only on Intel Processors.
Support for applications compiled for PPC Macs was taken by a code translator called Rosetta. That continued into SL, but was dropped in Lion and beyond.
