I have a Powerbook G4, OSX 10.3.7.  Can I upgrade the OSX?  If so, how?

I have a Powerbook G4, OSX 10.3.7.  I reinstalled the OSX 10.3.7 to wipe the data.  Before the installaion, I could get online via my wireless home network.  The installation process said if I installed 10.3.7, I would overwrite and wipe a newer version.  Stupidly I went ahead and overwrote.  After installation, I have attempted to get on line using existing wireless network.  I won't connect.  I can connect using an ethernet cable.  I ran the Update program while on line via Ethernet and got that the software is up to date.  Any ideas?  All response will be greatly appreciated.  Thanks

I do not see any indication of the Mhz/Ghz in the batter door.  I have attached pictures of the interior.  Hope this helps.  I do not, necessarily, want to recover any data.  My intention was to only wipe existing data, and then use this older unit just for accessing the internet.  Since I could access the wireless network before the wipe, it did not occur to me that I would not be able after the reinstall.  Thanks

I have a MacBookPro5,1 using OSX 10.6.8 can I upgrade the OSX to 10.7 in order to use Norton Multi-Device?

You can upgrade to Lion or Mountain Lion.
Upgrade Paths to Snow Leopard, Lion, and/or Mountain Lion
You can upgrade to Mountain Lion from Lion or directly from Snow Leopard. Mountain Lion can be downloaded from the Mac App Store for $19.99. To access the App Store you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.6 or later installed.
    Upgrading to Snow Leopard
You must purchase Snow Leopard through the Apple Store: Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard - Apple Store (U.S.). The price is $19.99 plus tax. You will be sent physical media by mail after placing your order.
After you install Snow Leopard you will have to download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 to update Snow Leopard to 10.6.8 and give you access to the App Store. Access to the App Store enables you to download Mountain Lion if your computer meets the requirements.
         Snow Leopard General Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel processor
           2. 1GB of memory
           3. 5GB of available disk space
           4. DVD drive for installation
           5. Some features require a compatible Internet service provider;
               fees may apply.
           6. Some features require Apple’s MobileMe service; fees and
               terms apply.
    Upgrading to Lion
If your computer does not meet the requirements to install Mountain Lion, it may still meet the requirements to install Lion.
You can purchase Lion by contacting Customer Service: Contacting Apple for support and service - this includes international calling numbers. The cost is $19.99 (as it was before) plus tax.  It's a download. You will get an email containing a redemption code that you then use at the Mac App Store to download Lion. Save a copy of that installer to your Downloads folder because the installer deletes itself at the end of the installation.
         Lion System Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7,
               or Xeon processor
           2. 2GB of memory
           3. OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
           4. 7GB of available space
           5. Some features require an Apple ID; terms apply.
    Upgrading to Mountain Lion
To upgrade to Mountain Lion you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or Lion installed. Purchase and download Mountain Lion from the App Store. Sign in using your Apple ID. Mountain Lion is $19.99 plus tax. The file is quite large, over 4 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.
OS X Mountain Lion - System Requirements
Macs that can be upgraded to OS X Mountain Lion
             1. iMac (Mid 2007 or newer)
             2. MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer)
            3. MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer)
             4. MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer)
             5. Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer)
             6. Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer)
             7. Xserve (Early 2009)
         Are my applications compatible?
See App Compatibility Table - RoaringApps.

  • Have macosx 10.5.8 model iMac7,1  can I upgrade to osx Mountain lion?

    I have a Mac osx 10.5.8
    model: iMac
    model identifier iMac7,1
    Intel Core 2 Duo
    2.4GHZ
Can I upgrade to osx mountain lion Or to something higher than what I currently have and if so how?
    Thanks!

Start by checking if you can run Snow Leopard:
Requirements for OS X 10.6 'Snow Leopard'
    http://support.apple.com/kb/SP575
The OS 10.6 Snow Leopard install DVD is available for $19.99 from the Apple Store:
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
    and in the UK:
    http://store.apple.com/uk/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
but nobody knows for how long it will be available.
When you have installed it, run Software Update to download and install the latest updates for Snow Leopard to bring it up to 10.6.8.
You should now see the App Store icon, and you now need to set up your account:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4479
To use iCloud you have to upgrade at least to Lion, but some functions are only available in Mountain Lion:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4759
You can also purchase the code to use to download Lion (Lion requires an Intel-based Mac with a Core 2 Duo, i3, i5, i7 or Xeon processor and 2GB of RAM, running the latest version of Snow Leopard), or you can purchase Mountain Lion from the App Store - if you can run that:

  • Can I upgrade the OSX V 10.7 Lion to another operational system without risc to lose the instaled programs?

How can I upgrade the Mac OS X 10.7.5 to better operational system?

Back up your data, check your applications for compatibility, and try downloading Yosemite from the Mac App Store. If you get told that it's incompatible, your computer can't be upgraded past 10.7.5.
Upgrading the OS always carries the risk of losing data that hasn't been backed up. It isn't possible to foresee all problems associated with this.

Which version of the utility will work on my MacBook, and still control the older Airport Extreme?

if I update the Airport to the latest version, and "control" it with my MacBook Pro, will the older G4 still be able to use the signal from the new Airport?
Yes. Your G4 shouldn't have any difficulty connecting to a Wi-Fi network provided by the latest 802.11ac AirPorts as they support the earlier radio modes that the G4 uses.

You need a network connection and a product such as ScreenRecycler. All such products require a bootable OS on the iMac.

ps: sorry for my english :S

You apparently are using a version of OS X you did not purchase using your Apple ID. Although you can download Mavericks you cannot install it over your current system. You must repartition your hard drive, then reinstall the version of OS X originally installed when it came new from the factory. That would be on the installer discs that should have come with the computer. If the computer did not come with discs from the factory but OS X was pre-installed (Lion or Mountain Lion) then you can perform an Internet Recovery:
Install Mavericks, Lion/Mountain Lion Using Internet Recovery
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
Boot to the Internet Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND-OPTION- R keys until a globe appears on the screen. Wait patiently - 15-20 minutes - until the Recovery main menu appears.
Partition and Format the hard drive:
    1. Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
    2. After DU loads select your external hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed. Quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion. Mavericks: Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks and click on the Install button. Be sure to select the correct drive to use if you have more than one.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.

    By all means get iLife but just for the record you don't HAVE to use Apple's photo application;
there are many more around, quite a lot of them free.

is a good site to look through for candidates - some will be  free some  shareware and some paid for.
Alternatively Kodak provides free photo software - navigate through this site to what's right for you:

  • I have an OSX, Version 10.8.5.  Can I upgrade to OSX Maverick without problems

Can I upgrade MAC OSX, Version 10.8.5, processor 2 GHZ Intel Core 2 DUO, Memory 2GB, 1067 MHZ, DDR3 to OSX Maverick??

Yes. But you really need more than 2 GBs of RAM.

  • HT201364 my apple computer is a 10.5.8 osx with 2GB memory can I upgrade this computer?

can I upgrade my apple computer 10.5.8 osx with 2GB memory to be able to download Itunes etc.

It depends on what model of Mac you have. If it's a PowerPC-based Mac, 10.5.8 is the last version your system can run. If you have an Intel-based Mac, you can probably upgrade at least to Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/SP575
but whether you can upgrade further will again depend on the specific model you have. If you'll tell us, we can tell you the versions of OS X it can run.
    Regards.

  • HT4759 If I have OS X 10.6.8 operating system can I upgrade to be able to use iCloud?

If I have OS X 10.6.8 operating system can I upgrade to be able to use iCloud?

You are posting in the iOS device forum, but I'm assuming you are talking about connecting a mac to icloud.  If so, you need to upgrade to at least OSX Lion to use icloud.  10.6.8 is not compatilble with icloud.

  • HT4929 Why isn't there a way to use iCloud you can't upgrade to osx 7

Can't apple develop an app for those of us that can't upgrade to osx 7? I can't see spending $400.00 for memory upgrade on an older imac. Do we have any idea how much memory will be required to run os 8?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
You can only locate your device when it is logged into iCloud and 'Find My Phone' is enabled, additionally the device will need to be switched on and connected to a wifi or cellular network.
Unfortunately, you cannot activate iCloud or 'Find My Phone' remotely.
