I have a PPC G-5 running OS 10.5.8 with two hard drives
I have a 2003 G-5 PPC tower running OS 10.5.8. Since it has two 150-gig hard drives, is it feasible to load one drive with OS 10.4.11 with classic support (I have the discs from my G-4 tower). I'd like to exit OS 10.5.8 periodically & boot into drive #2 w/OS 10.4.11 when I want to run classis apps like Adobe Photoshop 7, Pagemaker 7, etc. I know the PPC G-5 will successfully run under either OS, but not sure if the use extends to the classic support section of OS 10.4.11. Before I load up an extra hard drive, has anyone try this?
Thanks, Niel. Second Question: does this involve the legendary "Disc 2" for Leopard to find G-5 classic support? On some sites it mentions such a disc exists, while on on others they only mention a single (very full) OS 10.5x disc. My G-5 came with a single disc holding OS 10.5.6, which I've upgraded via Apple's site to 10.5.8 (another software dead-end). And on that disc, it has the Accessories, Extras etc in a separate folder but no classic support that I can see. Haven't actually used the disc- it's just insurance if I do someting silly & need to reload.

iTunes will run fine with the media on an external drive.
However, I suggest that a tablet computer with a tiny hard drive is not ideal as the primary computer for managing an iTunes library, even a small one. If you have another machine, perhaps a big, boxy, inexpensive old desktop with a decent amount of storage, that might be a better choice.

I have an 2008 model MacBook running OSX 10.6.8 with an iphoto version 7.1.5. The services using this iphoto version are no longer offered. Will my MacBook run the newer iPhoto versions?
You can run iPhoto 9.2.3 with the system you currently have. It's available thru iLife 11 as Niel has already mentioned.

Hi, I have macbook Pro, running Leopard OS X. I partitioned my hard drive a while ago to install windows and only allowed myself 10 Gig of data. I deleted windows after i realised i wasnt enjoying using it at all and wasted my hard drive. I now decided that i want another OSX on there instead yet i have only allowed myself 10 gb on the partition. I have ben thru some programms but am struggling on making this partition bigger.
I only want it at 20gb but cant seem to make the partition bigger, only smaller or split it into further partition.
Is there a way to do this, i have all installation discs from original OSX so think this could help.
Any help please would be fantastic.
Thanks ChrisHi, dragging the partition will only make smaller, not larger. In disk utility you can only split or make smaller the partitions. Yes i booted from installation disks also but still no help.
And Brody, I am willing to erase the disc completely, infact jus started doing a backup in order to do so but that failed also. And the information you gave on partition a hard drive, Although very simple and i already know how to do this, but it wont let me make the partition bigger, and i dont want to make a new partition, just enlarge the one i already have, which i dont see possible from disk utility.
Getting really frustrated now, even backing up is saying no to me. **** external being a douche.
I dont mind erasing the hard drive but surely this must be doable without deleting the secondary partition back t a single volume, and re partitioning into 2 volumes again.

I have paid and downloaded LION and want to update my IMAC, can i just run install and it keep photos settings etc from Snow Leopard or is a full reinstall with wiped hard drive, anyone have any experience of this and do i need to run a backup beforehand?
Always backup your important data before upgrading to a new Mac OS X.
Lion doesn't erase the drive but better to be safe than sorry.
And run Disk Utility (Applications/Utilities). Verify and if necessary repair the startup disk before upgrading.

New Mac Mini Server, has two Hard drives, could I install an older Mac OS on the second drive and switch start up disks to run PowerPc applications?
I haven't purchased a Mac Mini at this time and I may not if I can't use it as a non server. I need to update my system I would be better off buying a new Mac with Snow Leopard the last app that will run Rosetta. The Mac Mini Server has a quad 2.0 processor and 4 GB RAM and two internal hard drives and should out perform my dual 1.25 G4. I can run PPC apps on my G4 but it is 8+ years old and seems to be getting noisy. I don't want to tie myself to another old machine. I want a machine that will work with Intel Apps I was hoping that the two hard drives would allow me to boot from the second with Snow Leopard and use Lion on the first drive to be able to keep up to date with all my other universal apps and Mac OS up grades. The application I use the most is my CanvasX app with drawing & vector effects, text & typography, sprite technology, painting, image editing, and multimedia tools are all in this one app but will not be updated to run Intel apps. I am frozen in time because my most valuable Application won't be updated and Apple has cut me off by not supporting PPC in Lion and onward; Apple used to backward support but I guess that they are no longer as user friendly and concerned with a happy user. I have always been a loyal Mac user and I will not migrate to Windows under any circumstance; I hate windows!

Hello - I just had to replace the hard drive on my pc, and now my Outlook calendar and contacts won't sync to my iphone 5s. I ended up getting two hard drives (C and G), so I'm afraid that might have something to do with it - although I'm pretty sure Outlook files still live in the normal place on C. Itunes sync acts as if it's working, but nothing changes on my phone. Any ideas? Thanks!!

I have two hard drives on my mac 10.5.8 power pc and hear the clickking sounds of the first hard drive and think that it may be dying, can I install everything on the other hard drive also and wait for the first drive to die before i use the other drives? Or, what is the best way to handle this?

I'd make a backup of your important stuff before cloning the entire disk.
Carbon Copy Cloner will copy your startup drive to an external firewire drive. You can boot from the external drive to verify that you have a good clone. When you upgrade your existing startup drive, you can at any time boot from your external drive and go back to your existing system.

Is it possible to run an operating system from an external hard drive?
Really weird question here, but I've always wanted to know this. I have a MBP 13" mid-2012 and I installed a 256GB SSD. I currently have OSX 10.9 and Windows 8.1 installed on the drive, but is it possible to actually run an operating system from an external hard drive. I don't want to install anymore operating systems onto the internal SSD because I don't want to run out of space. So, I'm wondering can I install Linux on an external hard drive, the same way I would on an internal hard drive and just plug it in via USB 3 or Thunderbolt? Is it actually possible to use a computer this way? I know I can boot from a usb stick, so is it possible to actually use a computer with an operating system installed in an external hard drive?

I see 10.6.3 in your profile---is tthat what you are trying to load? If so, it won't work. No PowerPC Mac like your G5 can run a Mac OS version higher than 10.5.8

I would recommend you use the combination of Snow Leopard 10.6.8 and LPv9.1.5 (or 9.1.8 if you have to..) with that particular hardware to get the best performance out of it... I would not recommend running any OS X version higher than 10.6.8 as each new version of OS X from then onwards.. placed a bigger performance hit on the hardware... and frankly, less stability with LP9.
As to how well it will run on that hardware.. will more depend on the sort of loads you place on it.. depending on the type and content of the music you wish to compose... It will run and you should be able to create reasonable sized projects.. but again, it all depends on the plugins used.. the number of them... the number of tracks and so on... so to give a more precise answer is difficult. -
Can I purchase Mountain Lion and make a flash drive bootable? I do not want to install it on my Macbook Pro. I have an old External Hard Drive that stores all my music from years ago. I was wondering if it was possible to have the music only appear in the Itunes library when the External Hard Drive was plugged in. So when it is not I just have the music I have added recently, not the thousands of songs from the late 90's. I do not always keep my External plugged in and when it is not all the thousands of songs come up with the and is slightly annoying. Someone I knew in the past had the Itunes set up this way but did not know how it was done. Any help would be appreciated!
