I have a problem with lion. My MacBook pro froze and now I get a gray folder with a question mark.
I recently upgraded to lion but my screen just froze. I had to shut it down by holding the power button down. Every time I tried to start it again I got a grey folder with a question mark and couldn't do a thing. I' ve been told to restore snow leopard but I dont want to loose my files or email. What can I do?
Boot from your recovery partition. Check and if necessary repair your startup volume with Disk Utility. You may need to reinstall Lion.

I am using the Premiere Pro CS5 NLE (with the 5.0.4 updates), and I have tried to reinstall the software (which is actually the Production Premium package) several times, but I still cannot use the spacebar (or any method) to play any of my imported videos.
PLEASE HELP in any way you can!
Prior to having to replace my hard drive, my software was working just fine. No problems at all. But now, it seems that I can't get it to play whatever type of file I import.
Again, I am a newbie to the Mac, so any and all correctional/repair assistance needs to be expalined as if I were a child : )
I would hate to try to revert to considering the sophmoric Final Cut Pro X editing software package, but I've got to do something to be able to get back to my editing activities.

Recovery Mode presents you with, among other things, Disk Utility. When you open that, if the internal shows up at all, first try to "Repair DIsk." If that doesn't work but if the "Media" line is present, try to format and partition it with a GUID partition table (understand that you will be erasing the contents of your internal). Then try to reinstall the OS. If that doesn't work, and since your Retina MBP didn't come with a DVD drive or DVDs, you'll need to try a hardware test using these instructions from Apple (short version: shut down, press the power button and hold down the "D" key). If none of those things work, let's hope you either have AppleCare or your warranty has some life left because the SSD in your rMBP is proprietary and expensive. You'll need to bring it to an Apple Genius for evaluation. -
I bought my daughter a new MacbookPro 13" for grad school and selected the HP Envy 100 printer from the Apple Store website. When I just tried to install the printer, it said that that the software was not compatable with Lion. Any suggestions as to how to get it to work?

HP (and Apple?) need to fess up and tell all the people who have HP printers when they will "just work" with their machines and OS X Lion.... because for many of us, they just don't! It isn't rocket science guys.... blithely telling us that downloading S/W updates from Apple doesn't help.... because they don't solve the problems! -
I recently migrated from MacBook Pro to MacBook Pro retina. Now my macbook will not print to my LaserJet3200 printer. I downloaded the drivers but still only prints a line of gibberish per page, and endless pages, when i send printer a print job. Any recommendations on how to correct this so the printer prints properly again?

Macbook pro froze and now wont boot up - Help please

The issue randomly occurred when I was on Google chrome and I wanted to move an app that was downloaded in the wrong place. I went to click finder and it wouldn't open, tried system preferences it wouldn't open. It also wouldn't let me use any of the functions on the menu bar so I was pretty much stuck, however I could still use chrome. After which I closed the lid which enabled sleep mode. Just now I went to open it from sleeping and all there was, was a black screen and my mouse cursor.
I couldn't do anything, even the keyboard shortcuts and had to force shut down by holding the power button.
After which I was greeted with the following screen:

I didn't press anything and I noticed that my mac kept rebooting and kept showing that screen. Instead of leaving it I pressed a key and this came up:

That screen would come up for roughly 3 seconds then it would reboot showing this screen again

After about 3 times of auto rebotting this screen came up:

Can anybody explain this issue ? I take it, its a HDD problem is there anyway I can save my data still or is it lost ?Your MBP is suffering kernel panics.
Try SMC and PRAM resets:

If no success, try to access the recovery partition:

Select the recovery partition. From the 4 option menu, select Disk Utility>First Aid and run Verify and Repair.

Hi. I recently changed my MacBook Pro password, and now I don't recall what it is. My hope is that I can somehow gain access without deleting everything currently on it. I do not have the MAC disk that it came with. Is there something I can do myself? Should I take it to the MAC store? Thanks in advance for your help.

I have iphone 3gs ios 6.1.3 .. I have a problem I can not look contact profile and save it. I already sync with outlook and windows books also can not be seen. I tried to add a contact on the contact menu, but the result like restart ... (but not restart the device, not just stored). I am confused about this issue ... please help ..

The internal drive has failed.
Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store, or go to another authorized service provider.
Back up all data on the internal drive(s) before you hand over your computer to anyone. There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional — ask if you need guidance.
If privacy is a concern, erase the data partition(s) with the option to write zeros* (do this only if you have at least two complete, independent backups, and you know how to restore to an empty drive from any of them.) Don’t erase the recovery partition, if present.

I'm 65, have used Macs since 1989, and struggle with displays, cataracts, and bifocals. What I've seen of the Retinas in stores is that text size gets sacrificed for image quality. There are quite a few complaints about Retina in the MacBook Pro forums about not being able to increase the size of menu text without it getting fuzzy.
My iMac 27-inch is about a year old and I can set the display res from its default of 2560x1440 to 1920x1080 and everything is sharp. I understand that handy trick will not work for either the older hi-res macbook pros or the Retinas, so I don't expect it for any other Macs.
Speculation on Apple policy and new product releases is actiually not allowed by the Terms of Use around here so I doubt you'll get an answer to the "when" part. Anyone who does answer "when" is either guessing it up or violating a non-disclosure agreement! Apple plays its cards close to its vest and we average users only know "when" when Apple posts the announcement. -

dunno, Lynn--maybe Etrecheck. trying running disk utility to verify the status of your hard drive. That may give you a basic idea. Perhaps tech tool pro. As for it running hot, I can't say for sure. try shutting it down and using a vacuum clearner +crevice tool around the back of it. It's been my experience that hard drives usually fail without a lot of warning, luckily you have a backup. Afterwards you can say "Yup, that went bad". I've done a little research and found out that your MacBook Pro doesn't come with a conventional hard drive as such, but an SSD (solid state device) . It's upgradeable (up to 1 TB ) but not cheaply

I'm assuming your battery isn't removeable-shut down computer, plug in MagSafe cable . On built in keyboard, on left side, press Shift-Control-Option and power button at the same time. release all the keys and the power button. press power button again to turn on computer

I am having an issue with my adobe acrobat 9 pro. Every time I try to open a pdf from someone it opens it up with my free adobe reader rather than the Acrobat 9 pro so then I don't have all of the functions of 9 pro. How do I get it to open with 9 pro instead of the free reader?
It may depend on the plugin that is loaded into your browser. However, right click on a PDF and select the Open With option and go to the default button to select Acrobat as the default. That might do it.

Sounds like something internal was damaged in the fall, probably the disk drive. Take to Apple and ask them to fix it.
