I have a problem with my SIM card

I bought my iPhone 4S last year directly from Apple.   I worked beautifully until I changed providers, from Orange to Jazztel.    My phone is blocked.   I cannot use it with their SIM card, even though I bought the phone and paid €599.00 to Apple.
I have now been 13 days without a line, and Apple do not seem to be able to resolve this problem.
Short of going to court, are there any senior management contract that may help me solve this problem?

What did AppleCare say when you contacted them? Ask them to escalate the issue if you're not satisfied or call and ask to talk to someone in customer relations.
You do not specify what country you are in or were, exactly, you bought the phone. In some locations, and from some retailers (CarPhoneWarehouse in the UK is a prime example) iPhones will lock to the first carrier used to activate them.
Why don't you just contact orange and ask about having it unlocked instead of beating your head against a wall?

I have a Genius Bar appointment at the Apple Store tomorrow, but I was wondering if anyone else has this problem. Do you think that the SIM reader inside the iPhone 4 is broken?

    I solved a problem I had with activating my iPhone although the error message was different from yours.
    I got the message "There is something wrong with your iPhone and it cannot be activated, please bring it to your nearest Apple service".
    Via a Chinese forum I found out its the SIM card witch is the problem. If the serial number of the SIM has a "letter" in it it won't work. If only numbers it will work.
    I now tried it with 2 SIM cards with letters and got the message over and over again. Than tried with my only numbers SIM card and it activated instantly.

    Exactly that, there is a problem with the sim card.
    The sim card is the little chip that links your iPad to the cellular providers network to get internet anywhere.
    It may have moved in the tray and lost contact, it may have an actual issue, or it may be deactivated by your cellular service provider.
    Contact them to have them look at it or your service and see if there is anything wrong with it.

    We are fellow users here on these user-to-user public forums, you're not talking to iTunes Support nor Apple - I've asked the hosts to remove the card details from your post, but if you read this post within 15 minutes of your original posting time then you should be able to edit your post yourself. But as people subscribe to these forums you may find that your card gets emptied.

    You don't say what the problem is with your card.   If your card will not accept the charges, perhaps it is maxed out or suspended, then it would not be acceptable to Apple.   I am pretty sure that Apple would clear cards and credit levels before accepting an account with you.  
    I also believe Apple does not take PayPal.
    If the first situation is close to yours then you will have to find an alternate means of setting up an account.

    Depends on how you buy the iPad.
    Most iPads are unlocked so any sim card from any carrier can be used with them.  But some Carriers offer subsidized iPads which are locked to the carrier that sells them and as such can only take a sim card from said carrier.
    If you buy the iPad from an Apple store for full price it should be unlocked for use with any compatible GSM sim card.

    There are a couple of options that you have as far as getting this to work. First off go to Control Panel and then to Sounds and Audio Devices (or multimedia depending on the version of windows). In here go to the Audio tab and then under preferred Midi Playback Device you should have a couple of options. There are two settings here that will work:
    ) Microsoft GS Wavetable Synth - This is a very basic midi sound set that is emulated by the OS
    2) Li've! Midi Synth (A or B) - This is the hardware midi synth on the card.
    Make sure one of these is selected as the default midi playback device and then test your games again.

    Well it's either your graphics card or the inverter for the screen I'd guess - either way the only people who can fix this for you are Apple.
    The fact that it doesn't see an external monitor would suggest it's the card ...
    I know this might sound like a dumb question but you have turned the brightness up fully and tried a PRAM reset haven't you ?
    Parameter RAM reset - hold down command/option/p/r keys at start up and wait for three chimes before releasing the keys.

    When I try to call, the call always failed.

    From a different phone, call your cellular carrier.   They need to get involved.
