I have a s-l-o-w MacBook. I cleared the cookies and cache. I tried loading Norton

I tried loading Norton Internet Security because I thought I had a virus. Any ideas to speed things up?

Never ever ever download Not on AntiVirus it will do more ham than any good. Remember you are running a Mac not a PC and you don't have to worry about Viruses.
Anything you would or could download would be a Malware, and would thus cause more issues rather than fix anything.
This is from John Galt and should be followed to a tee.
Back up your Mac, if you have not already done so. To learn how to do that read Mac Basics: Time Machine backs up your Mac.
Then, consider running EtreCheck and posting its report. Read about it here. It contains a link to download EtreCheck. Do not download it from anywhere else (such as may be found by following the results of an Internet search).

• I receive no audio in Utube while in Firefox. I have audio while in Google Chrome. I've cleared the cookies and still no audio

Video is fine, but there is no audio. I have to switch to Google Chrome to get both video and audio.

Did you check the volume slider of the YouTube video player?
Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode|Safe Mode]] to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).
*Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window or otherwise make changes.

You can check for problems with current Flash plugin versions and try these:
*disable a possible RealPlayer Browser Record Plugin extension for Firefox and update the RealPlayer if installed
*disable protected mode in the Flash plugin (Flash 11.3+ on Windows Vista and later)
*disable hardware acceleration in the Flash plugin

• Hello! i can't access both hotmail an facebook. I have cleared my cookies and caches but it didnt help! what should i do?

This problem is only with secure site with https

Do you get an error message page about the secure certificate, or a more general message that the page couldn't be loaded? Or does the page load but not work correctly?
Not sure this is relevant, but just in case: Firefox 23 has a new feature to block "mixed content" in a page. This article describes how to spot that condition and address it: [[How does content that isn't secure affect my safety?]]

• I have firefox set to delete personal information (log in to websites) when I close it ... However firefox isntead doesn't delete anything, keeps the cookies, and when I reopen firefox I'm still logged in (to websites like facebook). What do?

Pretty much this: I have firefox set to delete personal information (log in to websites) when I close it ... However firefox instead doesn't delete anything, keeps the cookies, and when I reopen firefox I'm still logged in (to websites like facebook). What do?
Privacy settings aren't working even though they're all appropriately checked off.
I think Firefox is saving cookies??

Let all cookies expire when you close Firefox.
* Tools > Options > Privacy > Cookies: "Keep until": "I close Firefox"
Make an Allow exception for the ones that you want to keep.
* Tools > Options > Privacy > Cookies: "Exceptions"
You can inspect and modify the permissions for the domain in the current tab in "Tools > Page Info > Permissions"
Make sure that you do not use "Clear Recent History" to clear the "Cookies" and the "Site Preferences" (Site Preferences includes the cookie exceptions)
* https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Clear+Recent+History
Clearing cookies will remove all specified (selected) cookies including cookies that have an allow exception.

• Since updating to 10.1.0 my bank asks for security questions everytime I log on. I have cleared all cookies and listed my bank in exceptions (allow cookies)

Since up dating FF to V10.0.1, everytime I try to log on to my bank, I get asked security questions. I have cleared the cookies and checked the cookie settings as directed in help. I also updated Flash player, still no change. I will look forward to some help with this.
Thanks........Bill

Make sure that you do not use "Clear history when Firefox closes" to clear the cookies.
*Firefox > Preferences > Privacy > Firefox will: "Use custom settings for history" > [X] Clear history when Firefox closes > Settings
*https://support.mozilla.org/kb/Clear+Recent+History
If clearing the cookies doesn't help then it is possible that the file cookies.sqlite that stores the cookies is corrupted.
Rename (or delete) cookies.sqlite (cookies.sqlite.old) and delete other present cookie files like cookies.sqlite-journal in the Firefox Profile Folder in case the file cookies.sqlite got corrupted.
You can use this button to go to the Firefox profile folder:
*Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Open Containing Folder

The seller should have given you the original disk so that you can reinstall as needed. But it likely was a single-user license (which really means single computer) so you can only have a copy on one computer at a time. If the seller didn't give you the disk he is probably still using the software on his new Mac. Your best option to get any of the iWork apps to use in OS X 10.6.6 or later is through the Mac App Store. You can then install them on any Mac you have that has access to the Mac App Store using your Apple ID.

• How can I copy the Mail "rules" I have already setup on my old MacBook over to the new machine?

Setting up my new MacBook Pro. How can I copy the Mail "rules" I have already setup on my old MacBook over to the new machine?
Is there a file I can copy & paste?

Thanks Barry & all,
Is it enough to just copy the rule-related files ??
i.e.
Library/Mail/V2/MailData/RulesActiveState.plist
Library/Mail/V2/MailData/SyncedRules.plist
Library/Mail/V2/MailData/UnsyncedRules.plist
What you suggest copies the local mailbox content + all the settings ...
while what I need is much less... and I'd like to be able to sync rules also in the future
by copying something light and simple ... not the entire Library/Mail folder
Many thanks,

If it's a manufacturing defect, yes it would be covered.

• I dropped my macbook pro on the floor and I wanted to see how much it would cost to get a bent corner on the lid to get fixed.

I recently dropped my macbook pro from the couch and it fell on the floor that was about a foot down. Nothing really major happened except for that the same area where the screen is, on the exterior of that there is a slightly bent corner. I really wanted my macbook pro to look in good condition and I wanted to know if there is any way I can repair this or do I have to replace the whole lid. I would also like to know how much it would cost. Please Help!

Apple Genius Bar will know better, even if you did show us a picture. We are just users like you.
I would start keeping very regular backups regardless.

• How can I keep synchronized my macbook pro at the office and a traveling macbook air?

How can I keep synchronized my macbook pro at the office and a traveling macbook air?

Have you tried doing the sync via Time Machine?
I thought it would be possible to backup the travelling machine and restore the machine at the office from the new backup.
I read a warning from Apple that it is not advisable.
I would be very interested in your opinion.

• My Macbook Pro shows the apple and spinning wheel at start up but won't continue startup. Any Help would be appreciated.

My Macbook Pro shows the Apple and spinning wheel at startup but will not continue the startup. Does anybody know how to get past this, so the computer continues to startup?

Take each of these steps that you haven't already tried. Stop when the problem is resolved.
Step 1
The first step in dealing with a boot failure is to secure your data. If you want to preserve the contents of the startup drive, and you don't already have at least one current backup, you must try to back up now, before you do anything else. It may or may not be possible. If you don't care about the data that has changed since your last backup, you can skip this step.
There are several ways to back up a Mac that is unable to boot. You need an external hard drive to hold the backup data.
a. Boot into the Recovery partition, or from a local Time Machine backup volume (option key at startup.) When the OS X Utilities screen appears, launch Disk Utility and follow the instructions in this support article, under “Instructions for backing up to an external hard disk via Disk Utility.”
b. If you have access to a working Mac, and both it and the non-working Mac have FireWire or Thunderbolt ports, boot the non-working Mac in target disk mode. Use the working Mac to copy the data to another drive. This technique won't work with USB, Ethernet, Wi-Fi, or Bluetooth.
c. If the internal drive of the non-working Mac is user-replaceable, remove it and mount it in an external enclosure or drive dock. Use another Mac to copy the data.
Step 2
If the startup process stops at a blank gray screen with no Apple logo or spinning "daisy wheel," then the startup volume may be full. If you had previously seen warnings of low disk space, this is almost certainly the case. The easiest way to deal with the problem is to boot from an external drive, or else to use either of the techniques in Steps 1b and 1c to mount the internal drive and delete some files. According to Apple documentation, you need at least 9 GB of available space on the startup volume (as shown in the Finder Info window) for normal operation.
Step 3
Sometimes a boot failure can be resolved by resetting the NVRAM.
Step 4
If you use a wireless keyboard, trackpad, or mouse, replace or recharge the batteries. The battery level shown in the Bluetooth menu item may not be accurate.
Step 5
If there's a built-in optical drive, a disc may be stuck in it. Follow these instructions to eject it.
Step 6
Press and hold the power button until the power shuts off. Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed to boot, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Use a different keyboard and/or mouse, if those devices are wired. If you can boot now, one of the devices you disconnected, or a combination of them, is causing the problem. Finding out which one is a process of elimination.
Step 7
If you've booted from an external storage device, make sure that your internal boot volume is selected in the Startup Disk pane of System Preferences.
Boot in safe mode. Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Post for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
When you boot in safe mode, it's normal to see a dark gray progress bar on a light gray background. If the progress bar gets stuck for more than a few minutes, or if the system shuts down automatically while the progress bar is displayed, your boot volume is corrupt and the drive is probably malfunctioning. In that case, go to Step 6.
If you can boot and log in now, empty the Trash, and then open the Finder Info window on your boot volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name.) Check that you have at least 9 GB of available space, as shown in the window. If you don't, copy as many files as necessary to another volume (not another folder on the same volume) and delete the originals. Deletion isn't complete until you empty the Trash again. Do this until the available space is more than 9 GB. Then reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode.)
If the boot process hangs again, the problem is likely caused by a third-party system modification that you installed. Post for further instructions.
Step 8
Launch Disk Utility in Recovery mode (see Step 1.) Select your startup volume, then run Repair Disk. If any problems are found, repeat until clear. If Disk Utility reports that the volume can't be repaired, the drive has malfunctioned and should be replaced. You might choose to tolerate one such malfunction in the life of the drive. In that case, erase the volume and restore from a backup. If the same thing ever happens again, replace the drive immediately.
This is one of the rare situations in which you should also run Repair Permissions, ignoring the false warnings it may produce. Look for the line "Permissions repair complete" at the end of the output. Then reboot as usual.
Step 9
Reinstall the OS. If your Mac was upgraded from an older version of OS X, you’ll need the Apple ID and password you used to upgrade.
Step 10
Repeat Step 9, but this time erase the boot volume in Disk Utility before installing. The system should automatically reboot into the Setup Assistant. Follow the prompts to transfer your data from a Time Machine or other backup.
Step 11
This step applies only to models that have a logic-board ("PRAM") battery: all Mac Pro's and some others (not current models.) Both desktop and portable Macs used to have such a battery. The logic-board battery, if there is one, is separate from the main battery of a portable. A dead logic-board battery can cause a boot failure. Typically the failure will be preceded by loss of the settings for the startup disk and system clock. See the user manual for replacement instructions. You may have to take the machine to a service provider to have the battery replaced.
Step 12
If you get this far, you're probably dealing with a hardware fault. Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store, or go to another authorized service provider.

I can not view ANY videos on Vimeo, I have 'reset' the Ipad, original IOS 5, cleared the history and cookies, I haves changed the DNs number to 8.8.8.8, I have worked on this for 3 days now, HELP!!!!

Try a reset: Simultaneously hold down the Home and On buttons until the device shuts down. Ignore the off slider if it appears. Once shut down is complete, if it doesn't restart on it own, turn the device back on using the On button. In some cases it also helps to double click the Home button and close all apps BEFORE doing the reset.

• I have 3 i phones. Can I have multiple accounts on one computer where it keeps the contacta and calendar for each?

I have 3 i phones. Can I have multiple accounts on one computer where it keeps the contacta and calendar for each?

My daughter and I both have iphones. I created an account (not separate itunes) for her on my computer so she could sync her phone/itunes but not have it interfere with mine since we have WAY different taste in music. Creating a different computer profile should work if you have separate itunes accounts, too.
If you all use the same itunes account, you can turn on Home Sharing. That way you can all download the same content without having to pay for it again. Not sure how or if that works with separate itunes accounts.
Hope that helps!
