Was your wife logged into the libray at the time you tried to log in? I have had a similar problem and it was because another user was logged into the library when I attempted to. I got the permission denied banner.

You can transfer the music purchased from iTunes Store to the computer but not music acquired somewhere else.
Syncing is one way street, computer to iPhone. You have to use 3rd party tool to transfer music not from iTunes Store to the computer. -
I have some music on my ipod that I want to put in iTunes so I can listen it it on my iPad. The two devices share an Apple ID and iTunes account. So I do I get the music from the ipod to the iTunes account?

You'll need to get it all onto one iTunes collection on your Mac Pro, then sync the devices to that. iTunes only lets you transfer purchases from a device, otherwise you have to use third party software.
I guess you could also look into getting iTunes Match. -

I can see music on home sharing, but I can not copy the music from the imac, to macbook?
I can see and play the music from the imac, on the macbook. However, I want to add the music to the library on the macbook so I can have it even when the macbook is not "in range" for homesharing? How can I copy the shared liabary to the macbook?
Thank you.To clarify my issue diesel vdub i updated itunes to 10.7 version after that every time i select some of my songs and click get info, it shows me a message that i tunes can't find the songs original location and a ! icon appears on the song selected after that. all my songs are in a external hard drive and it is connected to the pc and i can acces it but i really don't know what's wrong with the itunes or what it is

I recently moved my music to an external hd. I deleted the music from the internal. When i plug in the External,itunes doesnt pick it up. I have pointed itunes towards external but still not working,driving me nuts!

the best way would be to copy the entire iTunes folder (not just the iTunes music or media folder) from <MacintoshHD>/users/<yourname>/music on your Mac to the external, then launch iTunes while holding the option (⌥) key, click on choose library when prompted, and select the iTunes folder on the external.

In iTunes, select the music you want to delete (⌘+a to select all) and hit Delete on your keyboard.
Also delete the music files in Finder. Also make sure you have your own Apple ID and iTunes account and logged in. -
i want to buy a ipod as my iphone as no memory from all of my music, is there a way of transferring the music from the iphone to the ipod? i dont want to have to re download or buy all of the music again! Don't want to buy a ipod then find out this! Please help!
You can redownload most iTunes purchases directly to the iPod by:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
Otherwise you will have to sync from your iTunes library. -
I recently had to completely restore my laptop, so I lost the music on my itunes. It's still on my iphone, but how can I keep the music I already have and continue to add more music from the newly set up itunes again? Is there actually a way to do this? I can't help but wonder what the stupid icloud is for if my music is still somewhere in the 'cloud' but it's zero help for restoring music when it's lost on a computer....any help even a site that get's around apple would be great!
It has always been very basic to always maintain a backup copy of your computer.

Connect the old phone to your computer, right click on it in iTunes, and choose Transfer Purchases. That should put all of your music in iTunes except any tracks that were not purchased from iTunes. Simplest way is to transfer all your user data (inlcluding iTunes library) from old computer to new computer.
