my sons ipod toucj has a lock with a circle arrow around it (next to the battery life) what does this mean?
that would be the rotation lock
it can be activated and deactivated by double clicking the home button (round button at the base of the ipod)
and if you swipe along the bottom from left to right
you should see the same symbol on the left.

The User Guide is available at http://support.apple.com/manuals/ or downloadable from iTunes as an iBook.

on my I phone next to battery symbol there is a "locked lock surrounded by aa circled arrow" does any one know what this is for?
drsoif, this is the Portrait Orientaion Lock, which means you locked your phone in a way for it not to have landscaping mode. To correct this you will need to: double tap your home button and swipe to the right, first icon will be the icon with the ''arrow'' going in a circle, tap on it once and the lock will disappear:)

What is this symbol? (arrow next to the "Battery Indicator"
Ok, a little arrow pops up next to my battery percentage indicator (extreme top right corner) sometimes it's there (to the left of the indicator), sometimes not. Sometimes it points directly at the power indicator (points to the right), sometimes it points to the right at about a 15 degree upward angle?!?!
What is this thing!!!!????Chris CA wrote:
Neither of the links provided by either of you prove your point directly.
The link I posted above, when opened on the iPad in Safari (after it opens in Safari, click the curved arrow and save it to the Home Page), opens a nice web page (iPad Guide) that works and looks just like the Settings on the iPad and describes and shows pix of the icons at the top of the iPad.
And it wasn't to "prove a point".
It was to help the OP.
Sorry Chris, but your post did say ". . . .this link shows examples ...", and the point I was making was that it did nothing of the sort. It's like you asking how to spell something and me providing a link to a dictionary; accurate, sure, just not that helpful. Besides, I thought I'd made it clear that I did in fact know just what the link was. -
What is the arrow icon next to the battery percent?
I think it's showing that something is downloading but no apps are open right now and the arrow won't go away.
You can see what the icons mean in the manual:

Whatdoes a phone icon stand for in the upper right corner next to the battery indicator?
Text Telephone...for the deaf.
You're welcome. -
can someone help me with the question
Which reset procedures?
Try this... press the home and sleep buttons until you see the Apple logo, ignoring the slider. Takes about 5-15 secs of button holding and you won't lose any data or settings. -
HT1558 I have an upward facing arrow next to my battery indicator. What is this.
I have an upward facing arrow next to the battery indicator. Can anyone tell me what this is?

They are also all in your iPhone manual, which is bookmarked for you in Safari (see pages 12-13) -
I have a symbol on the top right corner next to the battery life on my iPhone 4s.
It's a lock with a arrow circle around it. Anyone know what it means?
That is the orientation lock. That prevents the screen from rotating when you rotate your phone. To toggle that on and off do the following.
double-tap the home button
when the task bar pops up at the bottom of the scree, swipe your finger on the task bar from left to right.
the icon on the far bottom left of the screen is the orientation lock. Tap that icon and it should enable the rotation of the screen.
that's it.
Thanks,

All my hard drives (internal and external) have a small lock in the lower left corner of the icon and I don't have permissions to access. I have 3 user accounts set up and I cannot access any of them. Permissions are set to 'Custom' in the get info window and I can't change them. Originally I had Snow Leopard installed on one hard drive and 10.5.8 installed on another. I started to have some problems accessing data between them and so I tried changing the permissions on ONE hard drive partition. The next thing I know, all my drives are locked (except the ones with the systems on them), the small lock appeared in the lower left corner of the drive icons and I don't have permissions to access any of them. In the get info window, permissions are set to 'Custom' and I can't change them.
There is suddenly a lock icon on my external backup drive!
