I have a Time Capsule with the internal disk drive. I have copied my photos and music to the internal drive. Is it possible to access the photos etc. using my Apple Tv to see it on my TV, iPads etc? on my home WIFI.

I have loaded my Time Capsule with my photos, videos, music etc. I want to access these using my Apple TV on my home WIFI for display on my tv's, and Ipads, Has anyone figured out a way to do this? I can do it by access to my Macbook but that's not always convenient.

If the light will not turn on the TC is dead. No matter that the hard disk is running.. it should only run at start up or when it is accessed not constantly.. that means the board in the TC has failed. Apple do not repair them.. They will replace it under warranty or applecare.
If you have gone over the 12month warranty it will still be covered if you have applecare on any computer or an Apple TV. In fact the cost of the apple TV plus apple care is still cheaper than buying a new TC.. so it is a route some people are taking.. certainly depends.. in some places like Europe or Australia now, there is a recognition that statutory warranty must be longer on a product that is premium to the market. 12months is not good enough. Apple will sometimes listen.
They might be fixable but I do not know how.

Can I use the Time Capsule to store data from my hard drive that I want to access later in addition to backing up the hard drive?
Yes, but if you move the "original" data on your iMac to the Time Capsule....then the "original" data is now on the Time Capsule disk.
When...not if...the Time Capsule disk has a problem, you have no backups for this data.
Perhaps a much safer plan might be to add an external hard drive attached directly to your iMac. Then, move the data to that drive from the iMac.
Now, Time Machine will back up both your iMac and the external hard drive so you have "originals" on one drive and backups on another. Would that plan work for you?

  • I have a time capsule with a ton of media on it. Will Apple TV recognize and play the media files without itunes?

I have a time capsule with all my mdeial files. Will apple TV play the amedia files with out a need for pc or Itunes?
    Thank you in advance

    rfromla jolla,
What I'm hearing now is that any NSA still needs some iTunes interface to "go through".  I'm going to use iTunes on my iMac as the pass through.  I keep it running just about all the time.
You can use the little Apple Mac mini fine.  If I were rich I'd do that.....
    Oh well.....

  • Have 2009 time capsule  with 6 month old iMac  very slow cox said i needed to replace with a new time machine with newer wifi ??

have 2009 time capsule with 6 month old iMac  very slow  ...cox said to replace with new router or extreme with new wifi ???? confused

Replace the Time Capsule with a new one or replace your router with an Airport Extreme Base Station that has faster Wi-Fi. Or you could just connect your old Time Capsule using an Ethernet connection from the Time Capsule to the computer's Ethernet port.

Followed the directions on this page. Books are not listed among the options at step five, only movies tv shows and music, so how do I download my books then? I previously purchased two audiobooks on iTunes.  They are available on my iPad, but not here.

If you go into Edit > Preferences then on the General tab on the popup that you get you should be able to select which types of content 'show' - tick the box against 'Books' :
Books then show under your 'Library' - if you select it, are those audiobooks listed there ?

  • Migration assistant with photos and music on an external drive

I have an I 7 ready to turn on, I will be transferring from a mac mini. I have 100 gigs of msic and about 80 gigs of photos that my mini access for I tunes and i photo. Will the migration assistant copy the photos and music from the external hard drive? My guess is it will but I wanted to hear it from someone else.
    Thank you
    Joe

I just move my iphoto's from a iMac to a Mini. I just used the import in the iphoto application, and it worked fine. I found migration to much work to use. Still have not moved itunes yet, but it doesn't have the import like iphoto, has export, so have not looked into the move yet.

  • I have trouble getting my new Apple TV 2 to work to the internet. I have an Imac with OsX 10.6.8 using a 3G modem to connect to the internet. I have a Time Capsule with Airport. I can't get the Apple TV to see my internet connection

I have an Imac with OSX 10.6.8 dual intel core.
    Apple TV 2
    Timecapsule
3G modem connected to iMac for internet access.
I have tied to get Apple TV2 to see the inernet but it does not seem to see the inernet connection either via the Airport network or even if I connect it directly with a ethernet cable to the Timecapsule or the iMac.
I have tired to set up Home Sharing but it doen't see the Itunes Store so no go.
I don't have wired internet but it is probably something to do with using a 3G modem
Any tips on how I can check if the TV coonect to internet and what to do about this problem?
I was trying to connect my HD TV earlier using a WiFi USB modem but it could not see my iMac. Apple Support told me to buy an Apple TV but that is not helping as I can't see anything there either.
    Regards from Michael

Thank you so much Paul_31 for your suggestions, HUGELY appreciate the effort
I have reset the printing system, a few times for good measure but nadda.
I have also looked at getting the software from the Apple site after seeing that with Snow Leopard you should let the operating system lead the install not the manufacteurers software as it is most likely out of date.  I too found it wasn't there so I uninstalled the software got up the CLX_3300 series stuff then went from there with the USB cable.  It apparently hasn't worked either
Unfortunately now after using the print utility to scan for a while that has now gone again on the last restart of the Mac.  I am so completely clueless
The box says the printer is compatible, the place of purchase said it was compatible, the Samsung site says it is compatible.
I think it's the set up of my Mac? Our maybe a glitch in the network settings?
    Thanks again

  • I have a time capsule with my iTunes library from a previous computer.  I now have a new computer with new songs on my iTunes library.  I'd like to retrieve my songs from my iTunes library which is stored in the time capsule.  How do I do this?

Hello there.  Wondering if there's any way I can retrieve songs that are stored in my time capsule that was backed up from my old previous computer?

    Actually you always use ethernet..
MBA does not come with ethernet port.. but apple sells both a cheap usb to ethernet and a much more expensive and much faster thunderbolt to ethernet adapter. With ethernet to eliminite this silly situation of setting up wireless over wireless, so if you make any change you instantly drops you off the network. Like cartoons of people sawing off the branch they are sitting on.
But you can reset.. no reset will do anything at all to the material on the hard disk. You must deliberately erase it.
Read the info because you may only need to do a soft reset. That is hold the reset for 1sec (2-3sec is fine)  as long as you don't hold it for a full reset.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3728
Even a full factory reset will not harm your files in any way, (or any further!!)
I am "concerned" that you have no backup to vital files on your TC. That is not wise. TC are no more immune to failure than any other hard disk.. (actually latest ones use the cheapest green WD drives money can buy) and keeping files in only one location is a receipe for disaster. An external drive is much more accessible.. cheaper and tend to be more reliable. There are too many things to break in the TC.. it is designed as a backup target for TM. Not a file store.

  • I have a Time capsule with 2 laptops using the internet wireless from it.

My desktop is wired to the Time capsule and it allows me to access the internet but my laptops cannot access the internet.  I have reconnected everything but nothing seems to work.  Any suggestions?

I would recommend that you do the following as a minimum:
Power-down the modem, AirPort base station, and computer(s).
While all of the devices are powered-down, perform a "factory default" reset on the base station. This will get it back to its "out-of-the-box" configuration and make setting it up much easier, especially if you use the "Assist me" process within the AirPort Utility. (ref: Resetting an AirPort Base Station or Time Capsule)
After the base station resets, go ahead and power it back down.
Power-up the modem; wait at least 10-15 minutes.
Power-up the base station; wait at least 5-10 minutes.
    Power-up your computer(s).
In this basic configuration, computers connected to the base station, either by wire or wireless (as appropriate for the base station type), should now be able to access the Internet through the ISP's modem. Once Internet connectivity has been verified, you can use the AirPort Utility to configure the base station for wireless security and any other desired options.

  • Time Capsule with 250Gb LaCie disk

I've just purchased a 1Tb Time Capsule. I want to connect my existing 250Gb LaCie disk to the USB port in the time capsule. However, when I do this it doesn't appear in "Disks" under Airport utility or as as a disk in Finder - the only disk I see is the one in the time capsule itself. The disk works fine when connected directly to my MacBook Pro via the firewire port.
Looking at the LaCie disk in Disk Utility it is formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled) and the Partition Map Scheme is Apple Partition Map.
Any ideas what the problem could be?
    Thanks
    Mike

Just noticed that the disk does not mount if connected directly to my MacBook Pro via a USB 2.0 port so the problems seems to be a more general one to do with the USB connection. I have no idea why this disk won't connect via USB 2.0 but is fine using Firewire 800!

  • Time Capsule with Double NAT status - Question.

Hi all.. would appreciate some advice.
I have a Time capsule set to DHCP/NAT.
I have a second Airport extreme connected to TC via eithernet (about 100 yards away) set to Bridge to further my signal on a big property.
I have several Aiport Expresses for Airplay only.
I recently called Apple and they told me to set my TC to DHCP/NAT and chose ignore.
I had problems with my computers connecting to the internet (they connected to my network, but not internet.  Or occasionally I would get errors on my MBP that said could not connect this IP address is used by another device).  It was sporatic.  Apple told me this was likely because I have 20-30 wifi devices in my house and my ISP is not providing enough IP addresses.  They told me that DHCP/NAT makes my TC 'be in charge' of these IP addresses.
I am using Frontier service.  Modem from Frontier is Netgear B90 - 755044 - 15.
When I set up this modem, I turned the wifi portion off.  And currently the wireless light on the modem doesn't ever blink, so I believe it is off.
So why am I getting the Double NAT error since my Modem appears to have the wifi portion turned off?
    Thank you very much!

    Thanks again Bob!
I called Frontier... they refused to show me how to put my modem/router in Bridge mode.  Hypothentically, if I did that, would that solve this problem?  Sounds like it would.  They said they won't show me how to do it because they use PPPoE or something and if I put into bridge mode I won't get internet access.  Is that true?  They only use bridge mode for businesse they said.
I never wanted a modem/router.... I wish I only had a modem! .  Maybe I will call them back and ask only for a modem.  Good idea.
    Attaching a screen shots below.
If I go into My connection at the top, hit Edit.... no where in there is a bridge option.
If I go to that green Enabled one under VC's... where it says PPPoE, there is a selection to choose Bridge.
    See below.
But I'm too chicken and I don't know if that is the answer or not.
    Thougths?
    Thanks again Bob!

  • Time Capsule with (2) AirPort Express connection problem

I have (1) Airport Time Capsule with (1) AirPort Express connected. I'm trying to connect another Airport Express but only get a yellow light on the 2nd Express. If I connect it with a ethernet cable I get a green light. How do I connect a 2nd Express?

The 2nd Express needs to be about the same distance from the Time Capsule as the 1st Express....and....it cannot be closer to the 2nd Express than it is to the Time Capsule.
The reason for this is that the Express will pick up the strongest signal and you want the Express to pick up the Time Capsule signal to be able to extend it.
Then, start over as LaPastenague instructs on the 2nd Express and configure it again.

  • I have a time capsule connected directly to fiber connection. I have connected a windows server directly to TC and configured it for remote desktop connection. From my interanet I can access srvr but not from my home. What config I need on TC?

I have a time capsule directly connected to fibre optic point out. All pcs and macs are connected wirelessly to the internet. I have connected a windows server pc to TC. When configured for Remote desktop connection, I can access windows server from within interanet but don't know how to access it from internet. I guess I need to change some settings in TC to get some ip adress for the remote desktop connection from my home. Anyone who can help me out? Appreciate it.
    Narmin

I am a little lost now.. I have read again your title and your first post.. and they seem inconsistent.
    In the title you state.
From my interanet I can access srvr but not from my home.
Interanet is not a word I know.. I assumed intranet...are you talking about internet or intranet? And just to be clear say WAN or LAN.. !! Is your home part of the interanet??
In the first post you state,
I can access windows server from within interanet but don't know how to access it from internet.
Now this is more normal.. the issue is not in the home at all, it is accessible from there but fails from internet. If this is correct, then you can do a few obvious things to determine where the problem is.
But first I need to know are you actually testing from a different internet connection to your home lan.. you are not just trying the public IP from inside the LAN as that will fail due to the TC not doing NAT Loopback.
I am also assuming the TC is the only router in the network, and has the public IP on the WAN interface.
And I am also assuming you have turned on the ping responder and you can actually ping your public ip from the internet and get a response. This helps no end in figuring out where there are issues. Strange but I have no idea if there is a ping responder in the TC WAN so you might need to forward that as well. Also if you have a dynamic public ip address are you using dyndns or no-ip or some other service to connect.
    1. Test bypassing the TC.. plug the internet connection straight into the windows server,, and test if you have access. If yes, the TC is the problem.. if not, your setup on the windows server is wrong.. look at firewall in particular.
    2. Assuming from test 1 the TC is the problem, Post the screen shots of the port forwarding setup for us to look at.. that is by far the easiest way to check it out.
There are lots of references to port forwarding in the TC.. eg
    http://must-know-mac.blogspot.com/2008/07/how-to-port-forward-time-capsule.html
The things that generally go wrong are firewall on the computer that is accepting the port.
The ISP doesn't allow connections on a particular port. (not likely in your case)
The router is behind another router.. double NAT will kill any port forward.
Upnp has already allocated a port.. not an issue as TC doesn't use upnp although a reboot of everything after you set port forwards is well worth it.. amazing how things don't stick properly without a reboot.
IP on the receiving device is not static and so changes.
Not enough or right type of ports are opened. This is always messier than it looks as one port is often not enough for two way communications.
