I have a virus  JAVA in my OSX mountain lion

Hi again I stall the OSX mountain lion and sometimes I get a notice telling me I have to install a java application. what i do for errase that?

Its not a virus at all. It's a separate runtime for a different programming code called Java. This is similar to Flash for Web browsers to view some online content. If you need it to run various programs, then install it. If not, then dont.
Again, it is not a virus or malware in any form, and does no good to describe it as such.

You may qualify for the Up-to-Date Program if you bought your Mac from Apple or an Apple Authorized Reseller on or after June 11, 2012.
explains it all. If it does not meet the date above then you have to purchase it at $19.99 I think

  • Do i have a virus, or is it just Mountain Lion teething problems?

Ever since i upgraded to Mountain Lion, it has impressed me, but also shocked me. It has some really useful features, and looks beautiful, but i cant help wondering if Apple is loosing it's touch, when it behaves like Windows Vista. The first problem was that it randomly kept restarting whilst in sleep, whick causes lots of problems. That has stopped now, but the are even worse problems. Web based application ofthen crash and are unresponsive, and it denies the existance of my Air port, which it is connected to, which keeps all the backups. Also, I recently noticed a Java DMG in Disk utility, but it wasn't in finder, when i looked, so i ejected it using disk utility. These are all tell tale signs of a virus, however, it also claims that the bootcamp partition doesn't exist, (yet i can still boot from it, and use windows), and also it told me that it couldn't eject Macintosh HD, because itunes was using it. Why would I ask my best computer to commit suicide? Also, when i connect my portable hard drive to it, it doesnt show up, but if i connect it in Windows or on another Mac, it works fine. So, it's either a virus, a reliability issue in Mountain Lion, Please help.

You don't have a "virus." That's the Windows way of thinking. You have a misconfigured system. What exactly happens when web-based applications crash?

  • Java encoding on OSX Mountain Lion

    Hi all!
I noticed since Mountain Lion, every app I run has the incorrect encoding:
Instead of MacRoman, every app running Java uses the encoding "USA-ASCII", which is a pain for european users.
This happens both when I run my desktop apps, made in java and when I use apps like Libreoffice.
If I run the apps with the parameters: -Dfile.encoding=MacRoman, everything seems to go back to normal, but this is not the correct solution, I think, because I cannot do this with every java app....
How can I change the overall system's preference for this?
    Thanks!

Apple are revamping support, you'll see something like this - select Apps and Software etc:
...next screen should have Purchases, Billing and Redemption links.

  • HT1338 I just installed OSX snow leapord and just want to be able to use icloud.  I up--graded my old macbook to 2 gigs and still can't get it to download icloud .  would go to osx mountain lion but can't do that either.  What do I have to do???

I want to use icloud to sync w/my new apple tv.  bought osx snow leopard and installed it plus upgraded to 2 gigs memory for my
old (2007) macbook.  still won't work. I need to get to at least osx 10.7.4 or to osx mountain lion.  Tried everything and can't get there.
I'm not a computer whiz...quite a novice.  so, if you can help; please speak in layman language....ha   Thanks

    iCloud requires 10.7.2 or later.
After you install Snow Leopard you will have to download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 to update Snow Leopard to 10.6.8 and give you access to the App Store. Access to the App Store enables you to download Mountain Lion if your computer meets the requirements.
    Upgrading to Lion
If your computer does not meet the requirements to install Mountain Lion, it may still meet the requirements to install Lion.
You can purchase Lion by contacting Customer Service: Contacting Apple for support and service - this includes international calling numbers. The cost is $19.99 (as it was before) plus tax.  It's a download. You will get an email containing a redemption code that you then use at the Mac App Store to download Lion. Save a copy of that installer to your Downloads folder because the installer deletes itself at the end of the installation.
         Lion System Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7,
               or Xeon processor
           2. 2GB of memory
           3. OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
           4. 7GB of available space
           5. Some features require an Apple ID; terms apply.

Open the Mac App Store on the other Mac and in the Quick Links sign into your account. See if the Mountain Lion purchase is among hidden apps in the iCloud area of your account info.

  • My friend have new Macbook Air with OSX Mavericks and I have Macbook Pro with OSX Mountain Lion, Can I create a bootable maverick in pendrive from macbook air and perform a clean installation/update on my macbook pro with osx mountain lion?

I have late 2012 edition Macbook Pro, I have a internet connection with does not run smoothly It gets disconnected and reconnects Thus I failed everytime when I update my OSX Mountain Lion to Mavericks in App Store. My friend just bought 2013 end Macbook Air whicch have OSX Mavericks pre installed.
I was hoping if I can create a OS X version in pendrive from his laptop and use that to install and thuss also update OS on my Mountain Lion.
Kindly explain me in detail how to perform this.
I have already taken back up of all files and I am ready to total clean my laptop.
And I want to update to Maverick so I can thus further update to upcoming OS X Yosemite.

The Mavericks on the Air is probably machine specific since it came pre-installed, so it wouldn't work on your computer. See if your friend will let you access the App Store, where you can sign in using your Apple ID and download the installer. You can use this free program to copy the installer and update your computer.

To recover Mountain Lion to your purchases, open App Store > Featured > Account (under Quick Links) > Show hidden purchases, and show OS X Mountain Lion. Finally, it will appear on Purchases tab

Instead of getting a wireless card for the Mac Pro, you might want to consider getting an 802.11ac wireless bridge device that would enable you to connect more than one device to it by Ethernet cable and to eventually take advantage of the faster 802.11ac wireless standard.

  • I have a mid 2007 mac book pro and i cant get mac osx mountain lion

i have a mid 2007 mac book pro and i cant get mac osx mountain lion
please get back to me and it says on the apple website i would be able to get it

I would make sure it's deffinetely a mid 2007, and that's not just when you purchased it. Also you need at least 2GB of RAM and an intel core 2 duo processor with 8GB of HD space.

  • HT1338 I INSTALLED OSX MOUNTAIN LION. NOW I CANT OPEN MY IPHOTO.  I HAVE TRIED ALL THE WAYS TO REPAIR IT AND NOTHING WORKS.

MY NEW OSX MOUNTAIN LION WORKED FOR TWO DAYS , NOW IPHOTO WILL NOT OPEN .  IT KEEPS TELLING ME HOW TO FIX IT
BY RESTARTING. I HAVE FOLLOWED ALL THE INSTRUCTIONS AND CAN NOT OPEN IPHOTO IT JUST KEEPS LOADING.  THEN NOTHING SHOWS UP NO PHOTOS.  PLEASE ADVISE IF THIS IS A COMMON THING ?

Did you check if you have sufficient RAM.   Though Apple says 2GB, 4GB is much better as you need to take into account what other usage your RAM is put to.
Otherwise, agree with Barry; it does seem excessive.   If you restart, it will either show as 'paused' or be absent from your purchase list.  If paused, check out ...

Bad choice, since the cost is exorbitant. Snow Leopard ($29 USD) is available from its online store's telesales agents.[1-800-MY-APPLE (1-800-692-7753) or Customer Service and Sales Support at 1-800-676-2775.]
Additionally, you can get a MAS redemption code via the same route. See https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4140947?tstart=0 for details.

  • I have a mac pro 1,1. I would like to know if its possible for me to upgrade the parts to where i can install osx mountain lion, or osx mavericks?

I have a mac pro 1,1. I would like to know if its possible for me to upgrade the parts to where i can install osx mountain lion, or osx mavericks? I am currently adding more ram so it will have 32gb of ram, i have 2 250gb HDD but adding a 250gb SSD , and have a ATI Radeon HD 4870 512mb that i will most likely upgrade to an ATi Radeon HD 5570 1gb.

The SSD will boot fast, but the real change is launching 10 programs in 10 seconds and being able to use them. (20 seconds for a few big suites).
I would not add or upgrade to 32GB RAM. You can get 8 x 2GB for $100 on Amazon.
Those 250GB HDD are "old" and slow and overdue to be replaced, reformat and use t o backup the system.
Samsung 250GB SSD is down to $150 or so on Amazon also.
The 5770 is gone, hard to find, EOL and over charged for when you do find one.
you could look into how to use a PC 6870 or others.
Or, you could hold out and wait for a refresh of Mac-Mini which can be just as fast or faster and run Mavericks.
