  • How do I get rid of a search engine that has taken over home page?

Search.US.com has taken over my hone page and everything else it can. I have tried all the suggestions available to me by the help section. I have went so far as to delete cookies. This is very invasive. I looked at restoring the system but have few options for recovery points and they don't include the search engine download. I removed the add on it came with as well. I had removed the search engine in add/remove programs and was stupid when it asked if I wanted the default settings restored. I said no. I'm afraid I am j pretty stupid when it comes to software. I hope someone can help me. Thank you for your time in this matter. ps I put what I thought was relevant in the bottom box. I had not seen this before. I tried to modify it but couldn't.

I finally got a hold of someone at that search us.com. They gave me this link to try and solve the problem. I have already reinstalled firefox but it might help someone else out. And it's much simpler. I haven't tried it but they said to get a hold of them if it didn't work. the link is:

  • How can I view video clips on other web sites? Nearly every web site that has a video clip to view is unavailable to me because my iPad doesn't support flash! I can't believe the iPad is unable to do this. How can I watch web video clips.

What feature does iPad have in placement of flash player. Not having access to many web sites is killing the iPads appeal?;,

Not to sounds rude, but this issue has been covered so much in the media that I find it hard to believe that people still don't know. However all iOS devices, never and will never support flash natively. Google "apple adobe flash war". There are some alternatives, try skyfire browser in the app store. Not perfect but might help. None the less, most sites these days support html5 video which runs on iPad. I am actually having hard time running across a site which doesn't support iPad. however that is my personal experience based on my personal interests.

  • How do I secure a web site that has been compromised?

I have been transferring a shopping cart (zen cart) web site from a different server and hosting company. I am very concerned about security issues because the site has been hacked. Once a web site has been hacked, what kind of things should be doing to make the site secure again?
Here are some concerns: the owner is getting about 30 to 50 bounce back emails. The From line has the email address of the former hosting company. I suspect the only thing to do is to change the email address.
At one point, the configure file was changed: the username and password for the database. I changed the username and password but a customer called and said that she ordered a product the other day and it came from a different company from a different state.
So, obviously the site has been hacked and needs to be secure. The payment method is by credit card through Authorize.net.
What do I need to do to make sure this site is secure?

    Hi
This is just one of the problems with open source software, anyone and everyone has access to the code and knows what the folder and file names are that they must change for re-direct of sales/payment and often worse the name of the database connections folder and default connection file name, (they often then only require to 'hack' the password).
Unfortunately many people keep a simple user name and password for the web site, which is often simple to guess or hack. As an example the ftp connection is in most cases relatively simple to hack, (there are many password hack programs available on the web, free) the user name is often a simple variation of the site name, with a password set to something similar to the site name or owners name, (the owners name is available from Internic or similar service).
At the very least - download a copy of the database, change the log-in details for the site and database, set up a completely new zen cart site using completely new files, (save any custom designs, css etc. and 'import to new set-up). Do not use any old server side script files unless you are certain they have not been changed, check your database for unauthorized changes, and then upload the 'new' database and files.
The email bounce back is quite common if the sender name is not one that is from the hosting servers email accounts, and is probably one of the reasons why many people simply 'give-up' trying to get such items to work. The idea behind the restriction is to stop spammers using your email account to send bulk emails via your server.
There is much more you could do, but this would depend on the size and traffic of the site, (cost effectiveness).

  • How do I get rid of the "Inbox" screen that has taken over my web access? I have already uninstalled it, to no avail.

Everytime I go to my home page, this Inbox screen comes up. I uninstalled the program, but it still comes up, implying that it is embedded in something else. I want to be able to simply go to my web browser, Yahoo, when I click on my home button.

  • I have several web site that I visit and for the past few weeks, some part of the page look blank.

This started as just a small section was blank, but now many more sections are blank. Some of the blank spots contain links to other sections, and if I click on them, the do work. I was hoping some of the new updates would solve the problem but no luck. I have updated all my drivers and even with a new video card, no luck. I tried FF with and without add ons, tried rebooting countless time of both computer and FF. I'm using Win 7, FF 33.11, 8 gig ram, AMD 8 core cpu.
If I use Explorer, the site works fine, but I don't want to do that if I can get around it.
I was considering reloading FF, but I'm not sure how much of my stuff (bookmarks, etc.) I would lose.
    Any suggestions ?
    Lynn

    Hello,
The Reset Firefox feature can fix many issues by restoring Firefox to its factory default state while saving your bookmarks, history, passwords, cookies, and other essential information.
'''''Note:''' After resetting Firefox, you will lose any extensions, toolbar customizations, and some preferences.'' See the [[Reset Firefox – easily fix most problems]] article for more information.
    To Reset Firefox:
    # Open the Troubleshooting Information page using one of these methods:
#*Click the menu button [[Image:New Fx Menu]], click help [[Image:Help-29]] and select ''Troubleshooting Information''. A new tab containing your troubleshooting information should open.
#*If you're unable to access the Help menu, type '''about:support''' in your address bar to bring up the Troubleshooting Information page.
#At the top right corner of the page, you should see a button that says "Reset Firefox" that looks like this: [[Image:Button reset]]. Click on it.
#Firefox will close and reset. After it is done, Firefox will show a window with the information that is imported.
#Click Finish and Firefox will reopen.
Did this fix the problem? Please report back to us!
    Thank you.

  • How do I get rid of a search engine that has taken over Firefox?

I have a problem similar to the "Abuchak" problem listed in your forums. This is something different though. When I am at Yahoo or Google, I click a link and it takes me to another search listing. Sometimes it takes me to various sites where Avast (virus proggy) tells me it has blocked a malicious virus.
The last website it sent me to was http://64.111.211.188
I can, however, highlight the website under the link and paste it in the address field and that works out, but that's a pain. This has been going on for 2 weeks.
I have run Spybot, SpySweeper & Ad-Aware but it doesn't help.
How can I keep this software from taking over Firefox?
    Please help. Thanks.

Uninstall the "ConnectBar" extension, you may have to reset [http://kb.mozillazine.org/About:config_entries keyword.URL] in your '''about:config''' afterwards or change to a value you prefer for [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Location_Bar_search#Location_Bar_search_.28external_-_search_engine.29 Location bar searches].
The extension is not at Addons, it may have been obtained from an [http://www.facebook.com/pages/ConnectBar/156184567774985 advertisement] on Facebook.

  • Error message that has taken over every program on my computer

Photoshop.exe - Entry Point Not Found     The procedure entry point ?Terminate@StructuralImageEditing@@YAXXZ could not be located in the dynamic link library PatchMatch.dll
At first, working on a photo, photoshop cc was not able to perform a selection correctly and was going very slow...so I checked and found that I needed an update....when I tried to update Creative Cloud, it failed. Then I started getting the message above when I tried to open photoshop cc. At that point I could open other programs. Then all of a sudden, the photoshop cc icon jumped to all my programs on my desktop and now I cannot open any program without getting the message above. I can only get online by starting a scan with Norton and then it opens up for me to get online. I have done a full Norton scan and have found no virus or malware. I am completely blocked trying to uninstall a program as well by this same message.
I called Adobe because I had seen an entry online that said Adobe installed PatchMatch.dll on someone's computer (that had the same problem with receiving that error messagee) and it was fixed. After an hour on the phone with an Adobe rep, I was "accidentally" disconnected and the Adobe rep never called me back. I failed to get his employee number and name and he never gave me a case number....so I am at square one.

You can reset the pref <b>keyword.URL</b> on the about:config page.
