Hi, I have an iMac which I just booted up and have a white screen with a blue folder with a question mark blinking on and off. Any help would be appreciated. Tommy
That means your iMac could not find a system to use for startup. That may mean the internal hard drive has become faulty, or the hard drive mechanism is fine, but the startup volume ("Macintosh HD" unless you renamed it) may have some type of data corruption that makes it unbootable.
First, you should try resetting PRAM
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379
and if that does not help, use this procedure to reset SMC (power management). If your iMac is from 2008, this is the procedure for Intel (not PowerPC) Macs.
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
(This forum category is for "iMac (PPC)," so if this iMac is older (with a PowerPC processor), please post back.)
Disconnect all peripheral devices. When you connect it back to power, if you have been using a power strip of some type, try connecting it directly to a wall outlet, by itself (at least initially). Start up with nothing but the power cord connected, then add only standard mouse and keyboard. If it works, run it that way for a while.
If PRAM and SMC reset have no effect, you should insert your Mac OS X installation disc (for the currently installed system) in the optical drive, and restart with the C key held down. This should get you to the Installer screen, where you can run Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
In Disk Utility, does the internal hard drive appear in the sidebar? If so, select Macintosh HD in the sidebar and go to the First Aid tab. Use Repair Disk. If an error is found, note if Disk Utility was able to fix it or not.
You can then quit Disk Utility and attempt to restart normally. -
I have a White-Screen on my iPod Touch 2G
Hello User,
i hope you can help me .
After I had played a game on my iPod Touch 2G, my iPod suddenly went to a white screen.
I have made these things to solve the problem:
-I have reseted the iPod
-I have put it in the Recovery-Mode
-I have restored it
-I have used the newest Firmware for my iPod Touch and the newest version of iTunes 10
I hope you can help me and sorry for my bad englisch (I am from Germany)Sounds like a hardware failure. If it's still in warranty, try contacting Apple for repair. If it's not, you can look up some third party companies for repair. Also Apple will repair out of warranty for a fee.

My ipod 4th gen. has a white screen. i have tried pushing the two buttons but it didn't work. I have tried to restore on i tunes but because there is a pass code on the ipot, it won't let me. Any ideas?
Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased.
If recovery mode does not work try DFU mode.

I have a white screen on my ipod and can't use it
I plugged in my ipod to do an update on Itunes but it didn't finish the update. It is stuck on a white screen when it is plugged in and shows low battery when it is not. I've tried a forced restart and it isn't doing anything. It also is not charging right now.
Try:
- iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
- Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
- If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

White screen on my ipod classic
Can anyone please help me????? I brought an album from itunes and copied it onto my ipod classic as usual, then the ipod's screen went white. Now it will only turn off. I have tried the reset thing with toggling the hold button and menu/centre but it has made no difference. DOes this mean i will loose everything on my ipod? PLease can someone help, i am desperate......
Most likely, its time to have the iPod screen replaced.
But if you are lucky, it is some memory overflow, try to Hard Reset the iPod as below- this does not delete or erase any song or data.
After charging till full charge, at least 2 hours (preferably 4 hours)
Toggle the Hold switch, make sure you dont see the red mark when you do the next step
Reset the iPod -> Press Menu and Center button simultaneously for about 10 secs till the Apple Logo comes ON
Then release the buttons
Select your preferred language.

My iPod Classic 80gb every now-and-then goes funny, and eventually iTunes doesn't recognise it. In the past I could put it on disk mode, and do a reset, but some times I would have to format (FAT32), uninstall and reinstall iTunes, so it would work. Now it happened again, this time wiped clean the hard drive and formatted. However windows 7 and iTunes still doesn't recognise it. Tried many tips online but nothing works. All software I have used don't see the hard drive, so can't format it again.
I can get it on disk mode but even then windows and iTunes don't recognise it. When connecting to laptop my machine goes boiling hot. Left it connected with iTunes on for few hours but still no luck.
Any suggestions?Hello @turingtest2.
Following your threat I realized it was time to have my hard drive changed. My iPod classic has a Samsung Model: HS081HA, 80gb/3600 rpm (real hard to get it open and check out!!!).
My question is if I DO HAVE to buy exactly the same hard drive, or I could get away with another manufacturer and model, such as Toshiba (80 GB MK8009GAH FOR iPod Video 5th 5.5th iPod Classic 6.5th 7th Gen Hard Drive - Ebay listing)?
I ask you that as these Toshiba hard drives are considerably cheaper.
Help much appreciated. -

Just let the battery drain until the screen shuts off. When you charge it back up it should boot up normally.
