I have about had it with AppleCare and my PB....

After an unfortunate dropping incident this past July my computer appeared to be "dead" the following month in August. (My warranty expired the previous April). I took it into my Apple store in Orlando and they told me it was either my logic board or my hard drive. I sent it into Apple and they sent it back 2 days later... the only thing wrong with it was my airport card was knocked out of place. Cost for repair was $331 since it was out of warranty.
3 weeks ago I started noticing strange symptoms. My fan was constantly running even when I had no apps running. Programs would take a while to respond, I would delete songs and pictures from iTunes or iPhoto and the next time I opened the program they would be back as if I never touched them.... just some strange occurences. Finally 3 weeks ago I plugged my iPod in and when I returned to my computer I had a gray boot screen. Tried restarting and my hd and it started making a loud buzzing noise and it couldn't find the OS. Took it into my new apple store in Jacksonville and after the "Genius" played with it for 2 hours she decided to keep it over night. She said it was possible my hd was failing. I didn't get a call back for a week and they said my hd was definitely dead and it would be sent to the repair center and I would have it back in a few days. A week later I get the call that it's been repaired and I can pick it up. I go in expecting a new hard drive and everything to be working amazing. I look on the repair sheet the only things listed were "tighted screws around hd and reseat cable."
So after going through all that mess and paying yet another $331 the only thing that needed to be done was something they could have done in the store IF they would have taken the time to look closely at it. I told myself atleast all my data is still there and I have my computer back.
NOW only a little over a week later my computer is becoming unresponsive, I started hearing the buzzing noise, and now I cannot boot into OS X. I can't do first aid on the drive or erase and reinstall. Even though my computer is out of warranty Apple better be willing to fix this for no charge this time because it's only been a week since they "fixed" it the last time.
AppleCare will be getting a phone call from a not-so-happy customer tomorrow morning.
I'm loosing my faith in Apple

Wouldn't the previous repairs by Apple be covered by warranty?

    I updated to Mavericks 6 months ago on my new Macbook Pro and have had nothing but trouble ever since -- despite numerous trips to the Genius Bar. They all act as though It's only my machine yet I'm reading literally hundreds of similar complaints on the Internet. To start:
    1) My machine now "runs" very slow (as in 1980).
    2) Search and Spotlight yield jumbled information.
    3) MAIL and CCONTACTS are near useless with a spinning beachball the norm.
    My Apple store had my machine for 5 days with no loaner! They did a manual rebuild and shrugged their sholders when it still didn't work after all that.
    I have the distinct impression that Time Machine is at the bottom of some of my problems. I've used it to migrate data from my last three machines and I'm seeing some odd stuff from my other machines. In particular, I used an exact Macbook Pro loaned by a client after my last Mac crashed (I was backed up) and I'm seeing their grayed out login ID autoentered when I try to update Imovie and so I cannot log into my apple account.
    I've used Mac since 1995 when the first SE came out and I'm very tech oriented. I can only wonder how frustrated the lay used might be. Any thoughts out there?

    They stopped making that model four years ago.  There is no way it is two months old.  Trying connecting it to a computer with iTuens via a USB cable to see if you can re-install the firmware.

    Turn Off BT on your Phone & ReBoot..
    Delete the phone from the vehicles memory..
    Restart the Vehicle & go thro' the Pair set up..........

    I've just about had it with Lion.  I am suffering such severe performance problems with it on my iMac that I'm seriously considering either downgrading to Snow Leopard or running Windows 7 in Boot Camp on the box.
    My iMac is a 2.66 GHz iMac Core 2 Duo with 4GB of RAM, which is a decent specification.  I am running the latest, fully patched 10.7.2 version of OS X and the performance is absolutely terrible.  Pretty much every operation of any significance that I perform results in the spinning beach-ball.  Even just switching between things like Firefox and Finder causes major delays.  I have searched high and low on these forums and tried everything, including repairing permissions, etc. and the problem is still the same.
    The problem I think is related to I/O.  All methods of access to the disk is incredibly slow, including USB file transfer, network file transfer, and even moving a file from one part of the disk to another part of the same disk.  The problem is there in Finder and also when doing a file copy using the command line.  I had no such problems with Snow Leopard on the same computer but as soon as I put Lion on there, I lost the entire performance of the machine.  In desperation, I even completely re-formatted my disk and reinstalled Lion and as soon as I started it up, with the factory fresh OS, I had performance issues right from the start.
    The only conclusion I can come to is that Lion does not work well on some older Macs.  I had no idea why, but I know that I am not alone.
    If anyone has any suggestions, I am more than happy to hear them to prevent me from having to downgrade the box, but unless I can fix this then that will have to happen.

    A lot of people don't know but EFI (the firmware in Mac's) was designed by Intel for the chief purpose of Digital Rights Management, basically standing between the operating system and the hardware and watching everything going on, reporting it over the Internet, stoping the OS calls to the hardware to play back media etc.

    It's not like the old firmware of old, it's really a whole operating system unto itself. Programs can be installed in EFI, in fact I do so with rEFIt, which allows my Mac's to triple and quad boot other operating systems. (note, won't work reliably with Lion only Snow Leopard, requires updating)

    Intel also designed Thunderbolt, so I'm suspectign there is some sort of DRM scheme going on with Thunderbolt monitors.
    If Apple mandated DRM checking in Lion, naturally if you've got EFI taking up more processor cycles, that's going to slow your machine down.
    Also you might not know this, but for Early 2011 Mac's when Apple rolled out Lion, there was a series of Mac bricking EFI firmware updates. I had a bad suspicion and didn't apply the updates, becaue I frankly don't need Lion internet Recovery. So I'm suspecting there is a WHOLE lot of monkey business going on in EFI recently as Apple exerts more control in this area.
    The only conclusion I can come to is that Lion does not work well on some older Macs.  I had no idea why, but I know that I am not alone.
    Lion added more bloat that makes older hardware slower, it's been tested Lion is slower than Snow Leopard. It's how Apple gets you to upgrade hardware, by bloating down the OS and programs.
    I've tried Lion on a 15" Intel Core 2 Duo MBP and reverted it back to Snow Leopard. Slow downs, video issues etc.
    I don't recommend installing Lion other than on Early 2011 Mac's and later.
    If anyone has any suggestions, I am more than happy to hear them to prevent me from having to downgrade the box, but unless I can fix this then that will have to happen.
    You did a fresh install, that would have cured any performance issues with defragmentation or bad install.
    You can't upgrade your hard drive in iMac's to 7,200 RPM, because Apple has placed proprietary something on it for heat monitoring, so your screwed there for buying a closed box.
    So yes, upgrade to 10.6.8 and remain there on that machine, there is nothing you can really do.

    I used the 64-bit windows disc.
    Should I try parallels?

    Do you have a DOS screen with a command prompt or just a blank screen?
    Is your Windows 7 x64 an original MS Full Version Installation DVD?
    Did Windows 7 Install Disc start?
    If it did you would have had to choose the location of where to install Windows 7.
    Did you select the Partition named BOOTCAMP that corresponded to the Partition Size you created in BootCamp?
    Were you asked to format the Partition?
    Did you format the partition to NTFS and then get an option to click NEXT and actually start the Windows 7 installation?
    Do you have a wired USB keyboard and wired USB mouse?
    If you actual went through the installation and restarted then here are some things to try:
    First try doing a CONTROL-ALT-DELETE and see if a Windows Option Screen appears.
    If you get the Screen you will have some options displayed.
    You want to highlight and click TASK MANAGER which should be the bottom choice I beleive.
    If Task Manager runs you will get a window showing all the processes running.
    See if you can find EXPLORER.
    If EXPLORER is running highlight it and go to the bottom right and click the END TASK button.
    Now go to the Top Left Menu Bar.
    Click FILE
    In the sub menu that opens select RUN  or RUN NEW TASK (Not sure which it is in Windoes 7 as I am running Windows 8)
    Once RUN is selected a new window will open to CREATE NEW TASK
    Type in EXPLORER and then the OK button.
    If Windows 7 installed properly the Desktop should appear after a bit of time.
    Your first concern is to get your keyboard running so you may have to remove and reinstall Windows using Boot Camp on the Mac Side.

    Expanding on what The Fiend said, the license to play music from a CD is tied to and stays with the CD. So if you sell or give away the CDs, the license to play the music goes with them, at which point you legally no longer have the right to the tracks. You need to keep the CDs if you want to keep the music.
    As for transferring the tracks from your iPhone back to your computer so you don't have to re-import all your CDs, check out this post from Zevoneer for some iPod/iPhone media recovery options:

    If you can't access the App Store from the Apple menu, Dock, or Applications folder installing the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo will reinstall the App Store for you.
    It's ok to do this even you are already running v10.6.8.

    FYI:  Some third party software can cause issues with the App Store >   Mac App Store: Sign in sheet does not appear, or does not accept typed text
    Apple is not responsible for incompatibility isssues with third party software.

    There's your problem. Simply, as you are discovering, iPhoto cannot have the Library on a network and the Library must be on a drive formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled).
    So, on your local HD or on an external HD attached directly to your Mac by USB, Firewrire, Thunderbolt, and
    formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled).

    If they don't, is there any way that I can purchase a dongle in the USA and use a USB adaptor on my ipad2?
