I have absolutely had ALL I CAN TAKE of this $%^&* HP J4500

Have had the 4500 for 16 months. 
Windows 7 on 2 different HP laptops and even tried windows XP on an older HP desktop. DENIED. 
1. First 5-6 months I had to uninstall and reinstall the software EVERY SINGLE DAY because of the connectivity issues. Finally a fox comes along.
2. About every 2-3 after software patch fix for connectivity issues, I still had problems. Constantly having to reinstall the drivers.
3. This last week has been the WORST of all: I get an error message on the device that reads "PRINTER FAILURE CANNOT SCAN PRINT OR FAX"
In 6 days I have done the following: (oh, and all of this ON 2  HP LAPTOPS and an HP DESKTOP BTW)
Reinstalled/Uninstalled the ENTIRE software download for the dammned thing at least 12-15 times, this is in NO way an overstimate of exxageration in anyway whatsoever. 
Replaced both cartridges TWO DIFFERENT TIMES
Cleaned cartridges
Unplugged and plugged it back in about 30-40 times, even replacing the actual adapter...actualy paid for OVERNIGHT shipping because I was in such a time crunch. 
Downloaded scrub software to make sure I removed EVERYTHING before multiple reinstalls of the software/drivers.
DID A SYSTEM RESTORE. Nothing.....
DID A FACTORY RESET ON ALL THREE COMPUTERS....on my HP desktop, and both HP laptops. Again. NOTHING. 
Downloaded and ran the HP Print Doctor about 6-8 times, which always tells me the same thing after the driver check has been tested/ran: THE SCAN DRIVER IS UNABLE TO COMMUNICATE WITH THE PRODUCT.  (it IS listed in device manager, by the way and it says device is functioning properly, shows up on any program when I try to print, both the USB option and the wireless network option)
I have susequently and REPEATELY followed every single flipping step of the scan doctor recomended 'how to fix the problem' guide, to the letter...OVER AND OVER AND OVER AND OVER again.
Then the printer doctor goes onto 'WINDOWS WIA SCAN' for which i get the following message: Please save all your work, blah blah blah, unplug printer, then restart computer. Nothing. 
Then it goes onto the SOLUTION CENTER which tells me I need an update. Ironicall for the WRONG device. It takes me tot he Officejet 8500 page and says I need this 'critcal update". BS. 
 Once again, NOTHING. 
Then we move onto the HP TWAIN SCAN STEP: Error message reads: The tool has detected a twain scan error.  No software found, please download the software and uninstall then reinstall it. Done that a dozen times. . Begs the question, just HOW MAY TIMES ACN ONE DOWNLOAD THE SAME SOFTWARE AND REINSTALL it??
Then the front panel test tels me theres a problem and to UNINSTALL and reinstall the software (again). 
Then the test scan.....tells me there is NO device installed AT ALL!!!
Even when I restart the printer, with nothing on the feeder or on the glass flatbed I get the PRINTER FAILURE message on the front panel. 
This printer is absolutey, hands down, the BIGGEST PIECE OF YOU KNOW WHAT I have EVER used in my life. 
I AM DONE. Time to take a sledgehammer to it. 
What really upsets me is that I contected HP about the problem BEFORE warranty expired. No sense in me even writing down what i was told then, compared to now cause we ALL know exactly what they told me........

It's an office jet. ( well, actually... it's trash... I got rid of it & wouldn't wish that mess on my worst enemy)...
The thing that bugged me the most is the 20-30 tech support calls during the first few months that I owned it... that feeling you get when tech support questions your intelligence... whether or not it is intended or not... I called at least once a week & I know I wasn'tthe only consumer of this product who had that problem because eventually they came out with a fix...

    Please read this whole message before doing anything.
    This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
    The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches. 
    Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. Note: If FileVault is enabled on some models, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
    Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
    The login screen appears even if you usually login automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
    Test while in safe mode. Same problem? After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

    Is your phone still signed in with your old iTues ID for iCloud (in Settings>iCloud)?

    Try a reset on the phone. Hold the sleep/wake and home buttons together until you see the Apple logo and then release. The phone will reboot. If it still isn't working, then restore the phone.

    Apple offers an out of warranty or not covered under the warranty "repair" price, which pays for an exchange at a discounted price off the full retail sales price.

    Update to the latest version of iTunes.
    Third-party security software or router security settings can also cause this issue. To resolve this, follow Troubleshooting security software issues.
    Downgrading to a previous version of iOS is not supported. If you have installed software to perform unauthorized modifications to your iOS device, that software may have redirected connections to the update server (gs.apple.com) within the Hosts file. Uninstall the unauthorized modification software from the computer.
    Edit out the "gs.apple.com" redirect from your hosts file, and then restart the computer for the host file changes to take affect. For steps to edit the Hosts file and allow iTunes to communicate with the update server, see iTunes: Troubleshooting iTunes Store on your computer, iPhone, iPad, or iPod—follow steps under the heading Blocked by configuration (Mac OS X / Windows) > Rebuild network information > The hosts file may also be blocking the iTunes Store.     You may have installed the "VSearch" trojan. Remove it as follows.
    Malware is always changing to get around the defenses against it. These instructions are valid as of now, as far as I know. They won't necessarily be valid in the future. Anyone finding this comment a few days or more after it was posted should look for more recent discussions or start a new one.
    Back up all data before proceeding.
    Step 1
    From the Safari menu bar, select
              Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Extensions
    Uninstall any extensions you don't know you need, including any that have the word "Spigot," "Trovi," or "Conduit" in the description. If in doubt, uninstall all extensions. Do the equivalent for the Firefox and Chrome browsers, if you use either of those.
    Reset the home page and default search engine in all the browsers, if it was changed.
    Step 2
    Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    /Library/LaunchAgents/com.vsearch.agent.plist
    Right-click or control-click the line and select
              Services ▹ Reveal in Finder (or just Reveal)
    from the contextual menu.* A folder should open with an item named "com.vsearch.agent.plist" selected. Drag the selected item to the Trash. You may be prompted for your administrator login password.
    Repeat with each of these lines:
    /Library/LaunchDaemons/com.vsearch.daemon.plist

    Restart the computer and empty the Trash. Then delete the following items in the same way:

    Some of these items may be absent, in which case you'll get a message that the file can't be found. Skip that item and go on to the next one.
    The problem may have started when you downloaded and ran an application called "MPlayerX." That's the name of a legitimate free movie player, but the name is also used fraudulently to distribute VSearch. If there is an item with that name in the Applications folder, delete it, and if you wish, replace it with the genuine article from mplayerx.org.
    This trojan is often found on illegal websites that traffic in pirated content such as movies. If you, or anyone else who uses the computer, visit such sites and follow prompts to install software, you can expect more of the same, and worse, to follow.
    You may be wondering why you didn't get a warning from Gatekeeper about installing software from an unknown developer, as you should have. The reason is that the Internet criminal behind VSearch has a codesigning certificate issued by Apple, which causes Gatekeeper to give the installer a pass. Apple could revoke the certificate, but as of this writing has not done so, even though it's aware of the problem. This failure of oversight has compromised both Gatekeeper and the Developer ID program. You can't rely on Gatekeeper alone to protect you from harmful software.
    *If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination  command-C. In the Finder, select
              Go ▹ Go to Folder...
    from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.

    The only way that I know currently know of to remove old or incorrect email addresses from the Mail app is to reset the iPad back to factory defaults, which I assume that you don't want to to. You could try leaving feedback for Apple and maybe one day we'll day be able to edit them : http://www.apple.com/feedback/ipad.html#ipad

    You should definetely contact an apple store! If your warranty is valid they will probably fix it for free. Until then go to settings, general, accessibility, assisive touch and turn it on. A circle will appear that does exactly what your home button does.

    I'm sorry but your post seems vague as to exactly what version of what you are running, therefore, it comes as a surprise that you mention that "it" won't let you update iTunes. Did you run Software Update or try updating from within iTunes?
    If you are running a Mac under Mac OS X 10.6.3, then if you should be able to update that by using System Update to version 10.6.8 - first and foremost.
    Then, assuming you can run Mac OS X 10.6.8; I would think that you can (secondarily) update iTunes to Version 10.7 or Ver. 11.0.5.; IMHO 10.7 is better as it has Coverflow. Nonetheless...
