I have Adobe InDesign on my computer...

How do you add programs to your
"Open With" list when you right-click a file in Windows?
After my uninstall of CS3 (I already installed CS5 -
Windows dosn´t recognize the .indd files anymore...
It worked fine when I had both InDesign versions...
But ni for some reason the file association has been lost..
when I double click on an InDesign file in Windows Explorer it no longer  opens in InDesign directly.
I can however get them to open in Bridge - with double - click... but I would like to open them from explorer sometimes...
So I right-click on the file and choose "Open With" - but InDesign is no longer  in the list...
So - I tried to browse and choose InDesign that way - but it did not  work - I did find InDesign.exe - but it didnt add to the list...
Photoshop and Illustrator and Acrobat woks nicely...but not InDesign...
How do you get a program on your computer to appear in that list if its not already there?
Or is ther another way?
I dont want to uninstall the program & reinstall it again - from scratch -
so if anyone knows ANOTHER way I will love you.
Thanks.

Uninstalling an earlier version AFTER a newer one has been installed can cause some damage. What you're seeing is a symptom.
It doesn't much matter what you want to do. You need to reinstall CS5.

I have Adobe Reader on my computer and want to install Adobe X Standard - Do I need to purchase an upgrade or full version?

You buy a full version. There are no upgrade discounts from a tool that is free, anyway.

  • Installing Adobe InDesign on replacement computer

I had to replace my computer (new one is an Asus with Windows 8). After uploading my Adobe InDesign software (InDesign 1.5 that worked on replaced computer with Windows XP) the software program opens, etc but refuses to open the template files that I desperately need. There is a choice of files ending in ai, pdf, eps and pdf. It doesn't recognize any of these files.
I can likely open and work with these files in photoshop Cs2 but would prefer to  work with InDesign.
Any suggestions? Might it be because the InDesign 1.5 is such old software?
    Response would be greatly appreciated!

There is every chance the problem could be the age of the software.  YOur best bet will be to run the software in compatibility mode and see if that helps.

  • Is it necessary to have Adobe Reader on my computer and how to get it?

We usually experience a number of problems while downloading and viewing online documents. These documents are available in different formats, IRS, PDF and video files are some examples. Sometimes we receive a message ‘you need to install specific software to view the required document’. It is really a critical situation. However, we are thankful to Adobe who have introduced a number of software that can be of great help while dealing with such online documents.
Though a lot of useful links are available on the web about such issues, however, even then some of our friends find it difficult to handle such tasks. Therefore, I have started this discussion in order to provide helpful information about how to open and view such documents. In this discussion I will try to find out solution to common problems being faced by most of the users. I will try to get updates from different sources and to share the information so received with the participants so that everyone can take benefit of others’ knowledge. Also salient features of various products of Adobe will be discussed to make my readers familiar with various Adobe products.
I also request my readers to share their valuable information on the topic.
    Thanks

Adobe Reader software is the free trusted standard for reliably viewing, printing, and annotating PDF documents.
It's the only PDF file viewer that can open and interact with all types of PDF content, including forms and multimedia.
So you can install it if you come across many pdf files in your day to day communications / office work.
You can download it from : http://www.adobe.com/products/reader.html?promoid=DJDXD

  • Adobe Indesign CC "includes" Adobe Indesign CS6?

    Hi,
is it correct that when I buy Adobe Indesign CC, I have free access ansd use of Adobe Indesign CS6?
My problem is that I still have Adobe Indesign CS3, but the typographie I am going to work with is only going to receive the files for printing in CS6. Because there is alreay a CC, I don´t want to buy CS6 only for one project.
It is going to be a big project, so I am not going to do it in four weeks trial version time for CS6.
    I appreciate your answers

  • Adobe InDesign CS6 Has stopped working error message

    Hi,
I have Adobe InDesign CS6 on Windows 7 64 bits Enterprise Edition
When I open a document and try to export the document to pdf my indesign crash whith following message "Adobe inDesign CS6 has stopped working"
It happens on some docuemnts but now all documents.
    Please help.

Was that a typo and you meant NOT all documents?
Windows isn't quite as easy to diagnose crashes as Mac becuase it doen't providet he same crash reports, so we pretty much have to play Twenty Questions...
Let's start with some basic troubleshooting. Presuming this is isolated to just some files, start with this: Remove minor corruption by exporting
If that doesn't work, can you export half of the doc at a time?
Create a new user account onthe machine and log in using that. Are you able to export the document to PDF without a crash?

  • Adobe InDesign CC 2014 compatible with CS6

I have Adobe InDesign CC 2014 version. Can an older version ex. CS6 read files from Adobe InDesign CC 2014 version?

You need to Save As  > InDesign CS4 or later (IDML), and send that to a user who has a license (not subscription) to InDesign CS6.
However, if the user has a Creative Cloud subscription and is using CS6, the will have access to both versions of the application.

  • Adobe Indesign CS6(8.0) there is no Paragraph and Character directions

Hi, I have Adobe Indesign CS6(8.0) Windows 7. Where can I see the Paragraph and Character directions? I followed tutorials on the net but I can't find the paragraph and character directions. It's not like it's grayed, but the 2 options weren't there. Thanks!

We are using InDesign CS6 version 8.1.
When I refer to the "old" libraries I am referring to InDesign libraries that were created using InDesign CS2 back in 2006, and "new" libraries are libraries created using InDesign CS6 in 2014.
I just found out that the library assets in the "new" libraries were created by opening a document and dragging items from the Structure panel onto the Library panel.
This is why the script was having problems placing the asset on to a document and the root of the problem. This should not have been done.
I just created a new library and added a library asset by opening a document with pageitems on it and clicking on the New Library button on the Library Panel. I then ran my script and everything worked.
Sorry for the confusion. There seems to have been some misunderstanding within our team.
Nevertheless it was a great learning experience.  Thanks for your help.

  • Adobe InDesign Plug In issue

    Hi,
I currently have Adobe InDesign CS5 and this afternoon, I recieved a Adobe InDesign file from a client on PeoplePerHour.com. I was told they have same CS5 version as I have... I tried opening it but kept getting error message of missing plug in on my PC.
    SharedContent.InDesignPlugIn
I tried everything to open the file... no luck so far. Anyone can help?
    Regards
    James.

    They lied. It's not a CS5 file. It's CS5.5 or later.

  • Adobe Indesign License

    Dear Customer Service,
We have Adobe Indesign 3.0 CS installed in one laptop, but the hard drive crashed. We are unable to deactivate InDesign in the laptop that crashed. We would like to reinstall InDesign in a new laptop and use the same serial number. Is there any way to recover the license?
    Thanks in Advance,
    Albert

This is NOT Adobe Customer Support. You need to call them. This is a forum of volunteers who attempt to answer questions using their InDesign experience. We can't answer questions regarding your InDesign license.

  • What if the respondent doesn't have Adobe Acrobat?

This may seem like such a stupid question:
I have created a form that I want to send to a group of people to fill out. So, if I attach the pdf form to the e-mail that I send, does the respondent need to have Adobe installed on their computer to fill in the form?
Many of the people who I will send this to live in somewhat under-developed countries and may not already have Adobe installed. In this case, is there anyway to get a free copy of some readable software such as Adobe to enable them to fill in the form?
If so, would I send a link in the initial e-mail to the site where they can download such software?
Any help is very much appreciated!!

    Hi flaviusjack,
If you still have the .doc files, it might be best to send those to your recipients so they can be edited. Otherwise, you can use ExportPDF to convert the PDF files back to .doc format. But, again, that step would be unnecessary if you have the .doc files.
    Best,
    Sara
