I have an account (phone) but unable to sign in on Playbook

I received the Playbook yesterday and started the sign on procedure but failed to sign in. It keeps locking me out.  I tried to complete the 'forgot password' box but I never get the security letters/numbers correct according to the system.
Possible things I did wrong:
I remember on screen which asked me who was my provider and the Virgin screen was not available so I foolishly put in Orange which provides support. There was no a/n other option. 
When I went back to check everything I did find that the UK option had reverted to US which I corrected but no success.
Can't I delete all and start again?  Saying that I wrote down my password when I bought the phone and the top box of the sign in screen asks  me for my user name and prompts me to place my email address which I believe is correct.
