I have an Airport Extreme and need to open ports in order to view my CCTV system remotely.  How am I able to do this?

I have an Airport Extreme and need to open ports in order to view my CCTV system remotely.  How am I able to do this?  The company that supports the system says I need to open the following - 8200, 8016, 8116, 10019, 12088.  All help is appreciated.

Open AirPort Utility on the PC, select the Airport Extreme and click Manual Setup
Click the Advanced icon
Click the Port Mapping tab
Click the + (plus) button at the bottom of the connection list to set things up
Reference pages 49-51 in the Apple AirPort Networks guide for more info
IF.....you do not see a Port Mapping tab when you click the Advanced icon, then that would mean that the AirPort Extreme is in Bridge Mode and the main routing functions for the network are being provided by another device.
You will need to set up the port mapping on that device, which is likely your modem/router or gateway.

I have an airport extreme and express, if I use the extreme as a base station connected to my old router can I use the express to extend the signal while also creating a new network that only I can use? Essentially having two wifi connection off the same network? If so how do I set this up?

Extending using a wireless connection always results in a performance compromise.
If the Express is going to extend using a wireless connection, then the Express will need to be located about half way between the AirPort Extreme and the general area where you need more wireless coverage. The more that you have line-of-sight between the Extreme and Express, the better the network will operate.
Remember......the Express can only "extend" the quality and signal speed that it receives, so it needs to be located where it can get a very good signal from the Extreme. Although Apple cleverly uses the term "extend", a more accurate term for the Express would be "repeater".
If the Express will extend by connecting to the Extreme using a permanent, wired Ethernet cable connection......highly recommended for best performance.....then the Express can be located exactly where you need more wireless coverage. There is no signal loss at all through the Ethernet cable, so the Express gets a full speed signal no matter where it might be located.
Post back to let us know which way to you want to go.

  • HT4260 I have an AirPort Extreme and a linksys router. What is the best way to get 6-8 wired connections with ac speeds?

I have an AirPort Extreme and a linksys router. What is the best way to get 6-8 wired connections with ac speeds?
    Appreciate your assistance.

The answer depends on whether the AirPort Extreme is your main router....or...the Linksys device is your main router.
In either case, the two devices must connect together using a wired Ethernet connection using CAT5e or CAT6 cabling.
Any version of the AirPort Extreme produced within the last 5 years will have Gigabit Ethernet ports. In order to get the same speeds from the Linksys router, it will also need to be Gigabit Ethernet capable.
If you need additional Ethernet ports, you will need to add a Gigabit Ethernet switch to either the AirPort Extreme or Linksys router.
It is assumed that your other devices connecting to the AirPort Extreme and Linksys router will also have Gigabit Ethernet capability.
Not sure why you mention "ac" speeds in your post. This relates to wireless connections, not wired.

    Hi Kelly,
As someone who has to print from my Mac to a networked printer at home all the time, I can certainly understand how frustrating it must be to have that fail to perform as expected. Let's see if we can get you up and running.
I would suggest that you troubleshoot using the steps in this article -

If I have an airport extreme and a time capsule is it possible for seamless switching between the 2 when a signal is weak or drops
Main reason is as I move from my first floor to my attic office and would like to place one (airport extreme)downstairs and time capsule upstairs to get complete coverage

In theory, yes. If you configure the two base station into either an extended or roaming network configuration, you should be able to walk a laptop between routers and the laptop should attempt to connect/reconnect to the base station providing the stronger signal ... but, in reality, this is not always 100% true.

  • I have a game on my xbox one that is telling me I need to open ports in order to play it I am not all that tech savvy and have no idea how to do this

I have an airport extreme and I am trying to play a new game on my xbox one and it keeps kicking me I have comcast internet that is more than fast enough so I went to the games site and it says I need to either create a static ip or to open ports no idea how to do either of these or what that does any help would be appreciated.

There are heaps of posts here about how to open ports on apple routers specifically for xboxes.

  • I have an Airport Extreme and want to extend my connection and have a printer connected to the express. How do I do this??

I have been looking on all the forums to see how this can be done. I would like to do this wirelessly as the Extreme is on the first level and express in the office with the printer. Could someone please walk me through the steps to do this. Can I connect my speakers wirelessly to the express as well?

Please check out the following Apple Support article for details on how to configure your AirPort for an extended network.
Can I connect my speakers wirelessly to the express as well?
No, not by a wireless connection. They would need to be connected to the AirPort Express' audio port using an appropriate (analog or digital optical) cable as required by your speakers.

  • I have an airport extreme and am trying to extend the range of the wireless network with an airport express.  I set it up with the help of apple support, both lights are green on both airports, but the range didn't change.  What could be wrong?

I am trying to extend the range of my wireless network by adding an airport express to an airport extreme.  I configured it with the help of apple support, but it hasn't changed the range that I can access the internet wirelessly in my house.  What could be the problem?  Does weather affect the wireless network??

So, on the Extreme you checked the box to "allow this network to be extened" ?
    Correct?
And on the Express, you set it up to "Extend a wireless network" ?
    Correct?

Set up: Components of an extended network
➊  Primary Wi-Fi base station (this is the base station connected directly to the Internet)
    ➋  Extended base station
    Configuring a wireless extended network
To create a wireless extended network, you must place any extended Wi-Fi base stations within range of the primary Wi-Fi base station.
Start with the device that will be configured as the primary Wi-Fi base station.  Then configure your extended Wi-Fi base stations, ensuring that each is within direct range of the primary Wi-Fi base station. The physical location of extended Wi-Fi base stations will vary according to the building environment and may require some experimentation.
If you have configured your Wi-Fi base stations in the past, it may be helpful to do a factory default reset of each Wi-Fi base station that will be part of the wireless extended network before you begin.

  • Airport Extreme and connecting through ethernet port to Windows XP Pro SP3

I have today had the sad experience to loose network connection to My Windows XP Pro SP3 using the ethernet port on Airport Extreme Base station, the newest one.
It seems it won't pass an IP address for XP using DHCP, and to make things worse My wireless access using My is working okay!!!
Why do I only have this problem through ethernet ports on the Airport Extreme Base Station for XP, but wireless connectivity for My Mac's works????
If others have similar problems and have found a solution please let Me know.
Yes, I have twice today contacted My ISP provider but as the Mac's can connect the problem seems to lie with the Airport Extreme Base Station.
I will check this forum tomorrow and hopefully a response has been given to solve My problem

You can access the AirPort Disk via normal file-sharing connection options, such as selecting the server from any Finder window’s sidebar in the Shared section. AirPort Disk uses two standard methods: AFP (for Macs) and Samba (for Windows or Linux).
Leopard accesses AirPort Disks through the Finder, just like any other network volume. Open any Finder window, and look in the sidebar for a list of servers in the Shared section. You should find your AEBSn.
To mount an AirPort Disk volume, follow these steps:
    1. Select the AEBSn in the Sharing section of the sidebar.
    2. To connect as a Guest user, you need take no more steps; To use a named account, click the Connect As button in the upper right and enter your credentials.
    3. Double click a volume that’s shown to mount it on your system.
For both Windows XP and Vista, open the network browser by double-clicking Network on the Desktop. The base station name should appear in the Network browser.

  • AirPort Extreme and Time Capsule dumb port placement

Ok so I have a few of the new Airports and Time Capsules, the stacking arrangement on the Ethernet ports is just about the dumbest thing I have seen in a long time. For a company that prides itself in user experience design and engineering, you lost it on this one.
The ports are maybe a centimeter apart which makes in near impossible, unless you are an infant or use a tool, to disconnect the cables of any of the other ports except the top one. So for example if I have to disconnect bottom port, I either have to get a stick or a pencil or find an infant that has the dexterity needed (and the appropriate working papers) to disconnect the lower ports or I have to disconnect the top, then the middle then the bottom port.
    So dumb....
Next there are no lights on the front that give the status of the ports. Maybe there is a big trend moving away from this but it would be AWESOME in my book if you had port status lights on the front.
Lastly the **** box! OK next time make the bottom of the box the "next" and the top large portion of the box fit inside it. Ever try and get the box apart after you have removed the device and put the box back together. I swear to god there is a cat in there and I can't tell if it is dead or alive and I can't get the box open to see.
Lastly *** is with that app? It was better in the previous version, maybe 5.n?

  • I have 2 airport extremes and would like to have them reinforce a linksys router already in place.

Currently both are working in bridge mode for the linksys network.  How do I combine them into one network that reinforces the signal strength? I have a 4th and 5th generation airport max.

Sorry, do not have an answer for you, but it is obviously tied to the operating system and particular wireless card in the iMac.
You might want to post over in the iMac support area for some ideas that other users may have.
    iMac (Intel)
One thought though....if you are setting the Channels for each access point manually, make sure that they are separated by at least 3-4 channels, more if possible.
I am wondering why the older computer shows me three networks as opposed to the one big network.
If you run a utility like iStumber or WiFi Explorer, these should display 3 separate wireless networks....because that is what you have. They just all happen to have the same name, security and password......so they "behave" as one large network.
I have 3 separate access points here at the house, and both of the Macs here only show one network if I click the AirPort icon at the top of the screen.

  • I have AirPort Extreme and cannot connect to the internet with a land line but the WiFi works

I have an AirPort Extreme and have been using for several months successfully, but as of two weeks ago, the line that I have hooked up to my desktop no longer provides internet service, but the WiFi works fine for the I-Pad and I-Pod.
I have checked with my service provider and my modem works successfully hooked up the the AirPort extreme or directly to the PC.  When I am hooked in from the modem directly to my PC, I have internet for my desktop, but of course no WiFi.
If I connect the Modem to the Router and the router to my desktop, I have WiFi, but no internet service to my desktop.
I have replaced the network cable but to no avail.
    Any suggestions?

It appears that there may be something amiss with the Ethernet switch that is built-in the 802.11n AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBSn) or its configuration settings may be incorrect. I assume that you also tried using the other LAN ports on the AEBSn and the outcome was the same ... no Internet access via a wired connection.
One thing to try is to change the Ethernet adapter settings on the PC. It is possible that its current settings may be appropriate when connected directly to the Internet modem, but may be off for connecting to the AEBSn. If your PC's Ethernet adapter has options to control Speed, Duplex, & MTU, I would change these to the following respectively: 1000 Mbps, Full duplex, & 1500

  • Airport extreme and printing on ipad

I have an airport extreme and a usb printer connected to the airport extreme. I'm trying to print using the airport extreme to a non airport printer I don't see the printer on the ipad when I select printer. (nothing shows up)
But when I add a printer on my mac that is connected to the airport extreme I can see the printer and it shows up as bonjour. (two entries show up, one with the location set as the base station the other nothing showing anything in the location option.
Any idea's why the printer doesn't show up on the ipad or my iphone?
    Thanks

Since you do not have an AirPrint compatible printer, you will need to install an App like Print Central to see if it might allow printing from the iPad and iPhone.  Most printers are supported, but you really will not know if it will work until you try.
