I have an airport time capsule

I am moving to China and want to add a vpn to my airport time capsule.

There is no internal vpn .. so you cannot add it..
BTMM is available as Apple's secure method of connection.. but I doubt it is available in China or if so is inside the Great Wall not outside.

  • I have used Airport Time Capsule with my iMac for several years. I recently purchased a MacBook Air and when it tried to backup to Time Capsule it couldn't because Time Capsule is full. How can I now use the 3TB Airport Time Capsule to back up both?

I have used Airport Time Capsule with my iMac for a couple years. I recently purchased a MacBook Air and when it tried to backup to Time Capsule it couldn't because Time Capsule is full. How can I now use the 3TB Airport Time Capsule to back up both the iMac and MacBook Air? I don't mind losing earlier backups. I have excluded some items from backing up, but since the Airport Time Capsule is full, I can't even begin to back up the MacBook Air.

    On your Mac.......
Open Finder > Applications > Utilities > AirPort Utility
Click on the Time Capsule icon, then click Edit in the smaller window that appears
Click on the Disks tab at the top of the window
    Click Erase Disk
On the next window that appears, select the Quick Erase option, then click Erase
The operation will only take a few minutes.
Now you are ready to start new backups of both Macs.  Back up one Mac first, then back up the other.  Do not try to back up both Macs as the same time.

I am using TM Unifi with an ASUS RT-N18U Wi-Fi router.  I would like to know could I use Apple AirPort Time Capsule to extend (repeater, booster) my Wi-Fi to a part of the house where the Wi-Fi signal is poor
Yes,, if you plan to connect the AirPort Time Capsule to the ASUS router using an Ethernet cable connection that will remain fixed and permanently installed at all times.
No, if you were planning to have the AirPort Time Capsule connect wirelessly and extend the Asus WiFi signal, since it would not be compatible with another manufacturer's router for that purpose.
Another way of saying the same thing here would be that if you want to extend the network wirelessly, it will take two Apple routers to do so

  • I have a Airport Time Capsule 2T, I would like to know if it is possible to backup all my apple divides (iMac, iPhone and iPad)?

I have a Airport Time Capsule 2T, I would like to know if it is possible to backup all my apple divides (iMac, iPhone and iPad)?

The iMac can back up to the Time Capsule, but iOS devices like the iPhone and iPad back up to either iTunes on your Mac....or....to iCloud.
If the iPhone and iPad back up to iTunes on your Mac, then when the iMac backs up the iOS backups are sent to the Time Capsule as well.  So, the iPhone and iPad back up indirectly to the Time Capsule.
The iPhone and iPad cannot back up directly to the Time Capsule.
For more information on iOS backups, see this Apple support document:

  • I upgraded to OS X Yosemite and now need to upgrade iPhoto. I have an Airport Time Capsule that I have not employed yet to backup all my (thousands of) photos. I know, I am a fool. That aside, will I lose my photos in the upgrade?

I upgraded to OS X Yosemite and now need to upgrade iPhoto. I have an Airport Time Capsule sitting on my desk that I have not yet employed to backup all my (thousands of) photos. I know, I am a fool. That aside, will I lose my photos in the upgrade? I am desperate to backup my photos and now wonder if I should revert back to my previous operating system. Help!

iPhoto Library is essentially a large datafile in which your photos are stored. iPhoto is an application you use to do things with the photos stored in the datafile. If you backup iPhoto Library then you have backed up all the photos stored in the library. It's iPhoto that links you to all those photos stored in iPhoto Library. All you need do is to copy iPhoto Library to a backup drive. If you are doing regular backups, then you are already making a copy of the iPhoto Library on the backup drive.

  • How do I delete files when message is hard drive is full.  I have a airport  time capsule connected to my mac air

How do I delete files to free up space from my hard drive?
My Apple Airport Time Capsule is connected to my 11" Mac Air .  I was under the impression that connecting the time capsule would free up my hard drive to provide infinite space to the internet.

If you'd like to keep copies of them, put them onto an external drive and back it up as well; if you're using Time Machine, remove that drive from the list of items set to be excluded from the backup. If the drive's not formatted as Mac OS Extended (Journaled), choose Utilities from the Finder's Go menu and use the Disk Utility to erase it.
If you've done that or don't want to keep them, throw them away and empty the Trash.
The Time Capsule doesn't back up to the iCloud.

  • Does Airport Time Capsule have SIP ALG

I have an Airport Time Capsule and am trying to use my Bria 3 App for my company VoIP service, My IT guys have asked if the Airport Time Capsule has SIP ALG turned on.  I have'nt a clue where to look, any ideas?

SIP and ALG are features that would be found on commercial grade routers.
The Time Capsule has no settings for VoIP. It is a very simple home router with a built in hard drive.

  • Data folder can not be opened in finding " AirPort Time Capsule " The operation can not be completed because the original item for " data" does not exist .

    Hi
I have a " AirPort Time Capsule " (firmware 7.7.3) When I try to open the data folder in "finder". Then I got the message  " The operation can not be completed because the original item for " data" does not exist". I have a lot of data and I can understand why I get this message?
    Anyone who can help? Thanks..
    Br. Bo

Get a USB drive of 2TB or more.. assuming your TC is 2TB. Either preformatted Mac or plug into your Mac and format it standard Mac OS Extended Journaled in disk utility.
Do a full archive of the TC. You do this using airport utility. Do not click the erase disk.. I marked in green.. just the archive.. that is to backup the internal disk to the USB disk. It is not fast.. take it that the process will go at around 40-50GB/hr.
Once you complete the archive .. it is a direct image of the data on your TC.. you can then plug it into your computer directly.. and then try and open the files you lost.. if you cannot open them.. open disk utility and fix the permissions.
    http://osxdaily.com/2015/01/13/repair-disk-permissions-mac-os-x/
Or try the methods apple recommends..
OS X Yosemite: Set permissions for items on your Mac
It is possible to fix things on the USB drive because it is locally mounted.. but you cannot fix it on TC which is network drive.

  • How do I port forward or open a port on the Airport time capsule to hook p a security system?

I have an airport time capsule and a security system.  The installer doesn't know anything about using routers etc, especially on a mac.  They say I have to port forward or open a port specifically of this device.  I have very few skills when doing this IT type.  Is this hard to do?  Can I do it myself?  He wants to get an IT guy out?  $55 an hour, how long would it take?  Thanks in advance for anyone who can help!

    The method is here.
AirPort - Port Mapping Basics using AirPort Utility v6.x
If you need to get someone in, it depends.. The TC can be recalcitrant.. due to your setup of it following the apple guides.. and it depends on the security system and how simple that is.
There are multiple issues.. for example how do you find your IP address from the web when you have dynamic IP from your ISP.
Do you intend to setup dynamic DNS? Can the camera /dvr system handle Dynamic DNS?
I recommend you read very carefully the instructions for what has been installed.. because merely opening the port is only a small part of the issues involved in remote access to the security system.

  • Using Airport Time Capsule with an external usb hard drive - how to connect

I have 2TB Airport Time capsule which is connected to my iMac by an ethernet cable and which I use for T.Machine backups - No problems here.
I have an old MacBook Pro running 10.6.8  and which is also connected to my T/C via wi-fi - again no problems.
But I understand I can use an external hard drive via usb cable connected via a powered hub, to the T/Capsule and which I wish to do certain backups from my MBP (I have no wish to update the MBP as it runs certain apps no longer available on the iMac (10.9.2)
Now the problem I have is trying to set it up,  the MBP has Airport Utility 5.6.1 and I can’t continue as it says I need a newer version. As I see it,  the newer version doesn’t work on the MBP only  the iMac.
A catch 22 situation. If I continue and and go to “manual setup” then try  update, all I get is “correct the problem before updating”  (Allow setup over the internet using Bonjour).
Anyone have any ideas or images that I can view to try and get things going?
I should add that I wish to use my external hard drive not as a time machine backup but only for certain items using say, Super Duper, but am unable to get the disk to mount on the MBP
    Alan

I still can't use it the way I was hoping because it then becomes a T/M back-up disk and not a normal usb/firewire disc.
You are first mounting the drive on the desktop, correct?
Not sure what you mean here.
You can drag/drop files normally or copy/paste files to the drive icon on the desktop, just as you would a normal drive that is displayed on the desktop.
Or, double click the drive icon on the desktop and drag/drop files into the open window there.
Tell us the steps that you are using to mount the drive on the desktop. What happens after each step?

  • Does Airport Time capsule needs to be always connected by WAN to wifi router to use as external hard drive?

    Hi,
    I'm getting puzzled.
    I have:
    New Airport Time Capsule
    MBP 15 Retina
    MBP 15 2008y
    ATV3
    Broadband with wifi SkyHub router
    iPhone 5s
To use the Capsule as wireless external Hard drive does it needs to be always WAN cabled to SkyHub wifi broadband router? Awkward if does.
If I plug it out I can't see the capsule in the Finder?
    How to set it up?
    How to move files?
I wish to have on the capsule iTunes & iPhoto libraries, other documents and have acces to them from both MBPs and phones. Not as back up machine but for everyday use.
    Thanks
    Marcin

I wish to have on the capsule iTunes & iPhoto libraries, other documents and have acces to them from both MBPs and phones.
That is possible for your MBPs but not for your iPhones. In addition, you are likely to find its performance with iTunes and iPhoto to be unacceptably slow, to the point of uselessness.
If you really want to, it is possible to configure the Time Capsule join your existing router as a wireless client. In that configuration it will be available to your wireless network as a storage and backup device. It does not strictly need a wired connection to your router. To configure it that way it is best to start with a "hard reset".
It's not worth the effort though, due to the unacceptably slow transfer speed you are likely to achieve.

  • AirPort   time capsule USB HD not connecting or seen

I have an AirPort Time Capsule ME182LL/A 3 TB drive.
I have the network up and network printer connected no problem. Did have to tinker a bit.
I also have a 1GB external drive to uses for external storage. Connecting to UBS port the drive does not show in finder at all.
The setup guide is no help. It states the USB port will support a printer, hard disk, or hub.
    Macbook Air 13" 2012, OSX 10.8.4
    Any help will be appreicated.

It is a very good router and is fast if you change the defalt ch.  149 is not good but 153 is great.  I think Apple has an addressing problem on the USB Port, the old TimeCapsule worked great for an ext. drive and a printer.
Forgot to say that the new TimeCapsule crashes the Epsen tool box for USB printer.
Apple did not change the port to USB 3 but stayed with USB 2 so they should not be a problem.  I even tried a thumb drive and the only way it worked was FAT 32, OS did not work so what does that say?
I tried an Hitachi 1T byte drive and it did work but out of 4 drives it was the only one.  So much for a standard.  My problem is that my backups are on the Seagate so I must run it on the old TimeCapsule!!!

  • Airport Time Capsule Erasure

I have a Airport Time Capsule 2TB that I am giving to a friend.
I wanted to delete the information on the device so that no one can access it.  I did the 35 pass option but after the first pass which took 4 hours I cancelled it as it would have taken another 136 hours.  Does cancelling it after one pass restore it to before any deletion or did it do a 1 pass deletion?
I'm fine with one pass done but wanted to make sure!
    Thanks!!!

Just in case......do one more Zero Out 1 pass erase before you give the Time Capsule away. 3-4 hours would be about normal for this as far as time required.
If you don't have the time for the Zero Out erase, connect an Ethernet cable from your Mac to one of the LAN <--> ports on the Time Capsule and use the Finder to open the Time Capsule drive....named "Data"....and take a look to see if anything is on the drive.
