I have an aol email account. Some emails come through to my MAC mail (Mac OS X Lion 10.7.4) & some don't-very annoying, as I have to sign in to aol.com to make sure I am receiving all my emails.Happens even with email addresses that come to me on a regular basis.
I have no problems sending emails.

In Messages or iChat go to the App Menu > Preferences > Accounts
On the left is the list of Accounts that are set up.
Everyone gets Bonjour (Although by default it is not Active).
Highlight the Bonjour Account
On the right there is a Box that says "Enable this Account" which probably has a tick in it.
Select it to remove the tick.
This will turn Off the Bonjour Account.
The List may also contain any @me.com name you have set up.
This can be used in Messages as the ID for iMessages
It is also a Valid AIM screen Name.
It would helps if we knew which version of iChat and the OS you are using as there are some changes that occur
An iCloud @me.com name will not work in iChat 5 or earlier due to the checks Apple has in iChat 6 (and Messages) which iChat 5 does not do.
To also work as a Valid Screen Name the password for your @Me.com name has to be 16 characters or less (AIM server limit)

Hey NON-TECHNO-WIZARD
You can do one of two things. The first is to just export out the contacts and import them into each other’s account. If something is updated the other person will not be updated with the information. Now another options is using one Apple ID for iCloud Syncing and then you can still use individual Apple ID’s for store purchases. The article below will shed some light on how you can use the Apple ID.

Do you have your system backed up to Time Machine? If so, you can open your user Library and copy your Mail folder from Time Machine to your Desktop on your new machine; then copy THAT folder to your new machine's user Library.
To get to your user Library, open Finder and Go and press the Option key. Library will show up. Click on it to get into your user Library. Now go into Time Machine and you should see your user Library for Time Machine. Restore the Mail folder to your Desktop.

I assume these are POP accounts and all computers are set to remove from Server after downloading.
So on the non dominant ones... Mail Preferences>Accounts, highlight an account, Advanced tab, uncheck remove from Server, just have the main dominant one remove from server.
Or get/setup IMAP accounts.

Go to mail preferences>accounts>account info tab, make sure the SMTP: is not set to none, from the drop down select your server and click use only this server.

It would be nice to exclude this so that I could check it once a day or as needed without being notified of every bit of spam that comes to this account.

POP email account is not retrieving messages unless I launch mail.

Messages used to come through to my phone while screen was locked. Now I have to launch the email application for the phone to check with the server. I don't know if I may have changed some setting.
"Fetch" and "Push" are not explained in the manual.

For POP mail you must have Fetch enabled if you want mail to be retrieved when the Mail app is not open. Push is for email accounts that support Notifications. Examples are gmail, iCloud mail, Hotmail, yahoo and AOL. If you have one or more email providers that support Push and you enable it then your POP mail will also be retrieved when you receive mail on the Push account.

I work for a company that hosts multiple databases for customers in the Estate and Letting industry and we offer the facility for them to email their clients through our system. We affectivly send the emails on behalf of the user from our server using their email address as the sent_from address.
Recently (1-2 months) my support desk have been receiving loads of calls advising that the emails to btinternet and talk21 accounts are not being received (not sure if others are affected too) and the bounce backs they are receiving suggest that the recipients mailbox is full, however emailing the same email address directly from the end users outlook / gmail accounts and the email is received without a problem.
We thought it may be an SPF issue so tested this theroy with a couple of clients and had our server IP addresses added to their SPF records with no positive effect... this has since been reverted back.
I have also run our IP addresses through (http://www.cyren.com/ip-reputation-check.html) and all return no problems.
There has clearly been a change to BT email accounts recently which has caused this issue but despite seeing other 'similar' posts I dont see that this has been resolved yet and my customers are still experiencing the problem.
All I need to know is that BT acknowledge this issue and can advise what needs to be done to recify it either by us or our client or their client.

This seems to be an ongoing problem with the BT mail system at the moment. To say the whole mail system is a shambles currently is an understatement, BT are in the process of ditching their current mail supplier (Yahoo) in favour of a company called Openwave (formerly Critical Path). They seem to lurch from one disaster to another and seem incapable of coping with the size of the BT mail operation. In an effort to reduce spam to end customers, they appear to be over zealous with some of their implementations. Not much help I'm afraid but it puts you in the picture. I think the only way this is going to get resolved is by high level complaints by people such as yourself.

That's not possible.
Many mail servers are configured not to send bounce messages if an invalid email address is specified. If a mail server allows a bounce message, it becomes easy for spammers to compile a list of valid email addresses for the domain by trying various common combinations (i.e. [email protected], [email protected], etc.). So you can't do it across every possible valid email address in the entire internet.
What is the actual problem you are trying to solve, though? It seems highly unlikely that if you have email addresses that are part of an ERP that you really need to do this blindly. What do you use the email addresses for? Does the recipient have some reason to want to receive the emails that are sent to that address? If so, it would generally make sense to let the recipient verify the address periodically. On sign-up, assuming you are dealing with individuals outside of your company, you can send them a confirmation message that contains a link they need to click on to activate their account in order to verify that the email address they are providing is correct.

I have restored my data and other information, but am struggling to restore my email accounts, signatures, folders and contents. I have been using time machine, but do not know how to restore the right bit. Thanks for your help. P

Open Time Machine, and in Finder navigate to the "V2" folder (shown below) and highlight its contents. Then select the Previous DATE over on the right edge of Time machine to then "Restore" from.

Subject and sender is copied from prevous email on some emails

On some emails the Subject and Sender name is from another email received at the same time. This is totally random, does not happen all the time. I have included screenshots from two emails of the most recent recevied email with this error.
We have 4 computers and we all have the same IMAP account on every computer but this happens randomly on the computers. One may receive the cloned subject and sender while the others will not. This has happened randomly on all 4 computers. When checking on the web-mail they all appeare correctly.

Sounds like this might be an indexing issue.
right click on folder and select 'Properties'.
click on 'REpair folder'
Click on OK
Refresh the Folder Pane by selecting another folder and then reselecting the repaired folder

Multiple email accounts got synced on accident when I synced with .Mac

Yesterday when I did the sync with my .Mac account it gave me a warning that it was going to update alot of emails... thinking nothing of it I said yes. What I did not realize it that it synced all of my roommates email accounts and contacts that he has in his own user profile on my computer. Does anyone know how to go about reversing a Sync? I need to get his email accounts out of mine, and all that good stuff.

I have set-up all 5 accounts on the iPhone but due to wanting all my emails in one single inbox (.Mac inbox) it doesn't give me the option to choose which account I wish to reply from, therefore if I do send from one of the other accounts it doesn't show the sent item in my .Mac account which kind of defeats the object of trying to synch my email!
