You will need a valid billing address in the US and be in the US when you want to buy anything from it. You can try requesting that it be added to the South African, but ultimately it's the app's developer that will have to grant Apple a licence to sell it there : http://www.apple.com/feedback/itunes.html

If you don't have a backup then the only possible solution is to go back to the store and see if they can get your old phone and create a backup of that. I know very often that Apple employees will wipe the returned iPhones clean before shipping them back to wherever they ship them.
When you say your old phone was "broken" does this mean it is dead and won't turn on?
Do you have a Time Machine backup of your computer, or a clone that might have this info on it?
Other than that I hate to say you may be out of luck. Time Machine and/or a cloning program performed regularily will inevitably save your a** in situations like this.

I had a similar problem myself. This is what helped me.
I went to the App store app, scrolled to the bottom, logged out of the account, re logged in with my Apple ID. Then went back to app updates. Once I put in my ID password all was fine. -

I am furious about this. 3 visits to Aberdeen Union Square to be told the screen on my phone is not apple merchandise. How can this be when I got the phone from o2 (my work) in a sealed box. I have never once sent the phone away to be repaired or made an insurance claim?

I am basically sick of being called a liar by apple. I can swear this phone has never been tampered with except at The Apple store. Feel like I've got a faulty phone and no one will help me...I trully believe all my phone is all Apple and always has been. I wish I could get photo evidence of inside the phone so i could see for myself.

You don't need to create an account. Your use your Apple ID to log into Facetime.
If you haven't already you will need to download the Facetime App from the Mac App Store.

I have downloaded every update and my battery life is better than any previous iPhone I have ever owned. I see posts from hundreds of people every day, and this is not a commonly reported problem. While there are a few random reports of battery problems, it is no more than I have seen for any other model or any other version of iOS in almost 8 years. The simple test is to restore the phone as New. Do not create any email accounts. Do not install any apps. Do not enable FaceTime or iMessage. Do not enable Twitter or any other social networking app. Use it for a day and check the battery usage. You will find that it is working well.

i have been trying to get my ibook g4 fixed from apple for 6 years now. my ram doesnt work and the logic board is f'd up aswell... i know 12 people that have had the same issue. 4 of them got there ibooks replaced. anyone know what to do? all 4 ibooks were replaced outside warranty, why wont apple help me...
Apple supports most of their computer products for a 7 year period, could be that your IBook is well past any kind of help.Secondly parts are no longer being made for this machine and never will be again. Finally I find it hard to believe that nothing has been done with this for 6 years.Have you documented the reasons why you were turned down for repairs ? were the replaced Ibooks within a couple of months of warranty expiration? What model is your IBook ? At least if we knew what the model #, some of the more techy types could find out if there were any repair programs for your model.
Seems odd that you'd hang on to a non-working IBook for that long. -

If you really need to upgrade you can save a bit of money and get an older version than the ipad Air.
First, you can sell your ipad 1 to places like gazelle.com, cashforyourmac.com, sellyour mac.com, or many others out there. The sites I listed give you cash. At this point gazelle.com is giving $70.00 for any ipad 1 in 'good' condition. And cashforyourmac will give you $25.00 over what gazelle.com or sellyourmac.com offers you. Shipping is free.
Then, with that money, go the the Apple online certified refurbished store. As an example, a new 64gb Air costs $699.00. A refurbed 4th gen 64gb costs $529.00 and a 3rd gen 64gb costs $499.00. Personally, I'd skip the 3rd gen. So if you buy a 4th gen 64gb at $529.00 minus what you can get from a sale to above, you can get an ipad 4 64gb for just over $430.00, a savings of savings of about $270.00. I'm trying to download some purchased TV shows to my iPad Air. I keep getting the dreaded Download Error Tap to Retry Message. I've signed out of iTunes and back in. I've updated my software. I have plenty of room for them on the Air. We are taking a long flight this week, and I wanted to have something new to watch. I've read through lots of threads on this but I can't seem to find a good solution that I haven't tried.
If I can get them to download them on my iMac computer, can I then transfer them to my iPad? How is this done? (Please pardon an older lady's ignorance, and thank you for any assistance!)
