I have an apple Ipad, and so does my wife. I thought that it would be simple to use my ID on her Ipad. Did I mess up or what?

My wife and I both have Ipads, I thought it might be allright to use the same apple ID on both. I got an email from Apple, asking to confirm the email user name. Several months ago I received an email supposedly from Microsoft asking for my name and password to our hotmail account. The email had the Microsoft logo and it looked legitimate, so I did it. The next day, all our contacs were notified that my wife was stranded in a foreign country and needed money. When I addad my wife's Ipad to our account with the sdame apple ID as mine, I got an email from apple, asking to verify the ID. apple logo and all. It looked weak to me. Should I do it?

You never reply directly from an e-mail about username or password.
Best you change your password for the hotmail account. Don't get scam.
If in doubt, always go to the website directly with the correct web address.

Hi, Yes you are correct in iPhoto Prefernces, Advanced tab editing I used to have iPhoto and "Use external editor.". It changed to iPhoto and iPhoto Library. I have einstaleed PSE 9 and downloaded the update. There is still no lkink to external editor in the drop down box. Are you referring to @mac.com, @me.com or @icloud.com emails? Or some other email providers emails?
If the former, it should do that automatically. If the latter, no. iCloud does not (nor is it supposed to) sync non-Apple provided emails.

Sky is right you can restore the old backup and it will not affect the old iPad
To make sure do this:
1. If you have the old one then just turn off wi-fi and the iPad (that's just for your peace of mind)
2. Put new iPad on airplane mode (just for no interruptions )
3. Connect it (while it's on, don't shut it down)
4. Follow prompts and when it asks if you want to setup as new or restore CHOOSE: RESTORE
5. It will make its magic (just wait for it to sync, restarts, and finishes) it might ask you to update software if it does just accept
6. You can rename your new iPad like that you can have a fresh back up
7. ENJOY your new iPad

1. Do the above steps 1, 2, 3.
2. On step 4 you can choose to set up as new
3. Then you can choose what to sync on it (click on iPad on the left panel then the tabs on top you choose what you want on it (you can also do that if you restore)
4. Follow steps 5, 6, 7.

The minimum requirement for iCloud is Lion 10.7.2 - earlier systems don't show the iCloud preference pane. If you want to use iCloud you will have to upgrade to Lion or Mountain Lion (assuming your computer meets their requirements) but even so you won't be able to publish web pages to iCloud because it does not provide web hosting. If both accounts are authorised on the computer's iTunes that you sync them to, and the relevant apps are on that computer, then you should be able to sync them to both devices. The apps will be tied to the account that originally bought/downloaded them, so only that account will be able to download updates to them.
If you log into the other account on a device and re-download its apps onto them then you risk tying the device to that account for 90 days (and similarly redownloading on a computer's iTunes) : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4627

There is currently no way to merge accounts. The best option is to pick one, and use it consistantly.

There's no way to merge them yet, so all you can do now is make 1 of them the master ID for iCloud. You have to continue to use the other for previous iTunes, Mac App Store updates. Have you read:

To complete the backup, i will be using the Time Machine application. Does this application wipe out all of the existing data on the external hard drive, or will it create a new "folder" for the backup?

No, but as steve359 states you should use a dedicated hard drive for backups. It you need a temporary backup then you can use the drive provided it has sufficient space for all your data on the hard drive.
When Time Machine finds that the drive has data on it already it may decide to erase the drive before continuing, which is another reason to use a dedicated drive.
