I have an attachment with .doc and .pdf that won't open?

I have received an email with three attachments.  2 are pdf and 1 is a .doc.  I am unable to open them.  I can see them, but they appear with a downward arrow and do not open when I touch them.

That arrow means tap to download and then they should open .... Try the basics. You might want to try quitting the mail app first - the third step in this list.
Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.
Quit the mail app - Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Quit/close open apps by double tapping the home button and the task bar will appear with all of you recent/open apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus (-) sign in the upper left corner to close the apps. Restart the iPad. Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.

  • Word and PDF Attachments Won't Open in Mail

I bought my iPad2 in September 2011. have upgraded it to iOS5. I cannot open any PDF, .doc or .docx document. I have tried opening the PDFs in Adobe Reader and the Word documents in Pages or Dropbox but they won't open. All my apps are up to date.
What seems to be happening is that Mail is having difficulty downloading the attachment. I had a 4MB PDF attachment and when I tapped on the icon it began to download, which took several minutes. I saw the byte size change from 0 to 4MB. Then I tapped on it again to open the file but the byte size dropped immediately to 0 again and the file won't open. I tried opening in Adobe Reader but got the error "The document is empty (size 0KB)" . I have gone through several cycles of downloading the file and seining the seesaw from 0 to 4MB and back again. Just won't open the file.
Same problem when I tried opening Word documents in Pages or Dropbox. Also, I reproduced this issue with my colleague's iPad (version 1, iOS4, Pages).
Just to ascertain there's nothing wrong with the file attachments, I downloaded the same PDF in Outlook, placed it in my Dropbox, and opened it in the iPad without any problem.
    Anyone else having this issue?

Have you tried pressing the attachment to get the "open in" message and open in VLC, iBooks, or other apps?

In Computer, open the "C:" drive.
    Open the Users folder.
Open the folder titled with your username.
Open the AppData folder.Note: If you don't see the AppData folder, you may need to tell Windows to show hidden files and folders as shown below.
Double-click the Local folder to open it.
Right-click on the Temp folder and choose Delete.
In the confirmation dialog that appears click Yes.
If you are unable to delete the Temp folder, close all programs, especially those in the Notification area ("System Tray") of the Windows Taskbar and repeat steps 7 and 8.

  • Any software can see the e-mail attachment with *.doc and also *.tif

Seem Iphone itself cannot open *.doc, *.tif, need to download software from Applie store, but cannot find, anyone can help

The iphone supports viewing attachments in .doc & .tiff. However, if these attachments were mailed to you and the email was formatted in RTF they most likely won't display. Tell the sender to use plain text formatting & the attachments should display properly.

  • .doc and .pdf's won't download +/- open

Although PDFS and docs are supposed to be supported, I can't get them to download onto the iPad. I click "download" from an e-mail, b/c that's how I was told I could get these types of documents on the iPad, but then nothing happens, what gives?
Also, if I have an app that's supposed to allow me to do Office docs/ppt/els, do I have to buy/use the Pages/Numbers, etc.?
    Thanks,
    Diana

You only get the download button where the attachment should be if the attachment is over a certain size...pics often carry it...It is simply a graphic of a page with a downward arrow on it...you tap it and you will see the progress in the box...then it turns to a button which you can tap to view the attachment...on the iPad, you hold down on that button and a pop-over appears giving you the option for a quick look, or to import into the appropriate application (ie .doc opens in Pages, PDF can open in GoodReader, .xls can open in Numbers, etc.). If you do not have an appropriate application, you will only be able to quick view... Importing into an appropriate program is the only way to truly download files...

  • I have Adobe Master Collection CS4 and my Contribute won't open showing error 148:3

Please help with CONTRIBUTE Error 148:3

When something works one day, but not the next, then something has changed. You task is to find out what has changed.
It can be something behind the scenes, like an OS update, that kills the video, or the audio driver. It can be major, like installing new software, that does something to existing software.
First thing that I would do would be to get the very latest video and audio drivers for your system.
If that does not work, then you might wish to look at Restore Points, going back to when it last worked.
There are some other things that might give you a clue as to what is happening, when PrPro does not open. This ARTICLE might give you such a clue, or clues. Or, it might not, depending on what is causing the failure to launch.
One other thing to look at, and think about is what is PrPro trying to load. VST's (often added by other programs, especially Audio programs) can bring PrPro to its knees. Watch the little line of black text, as PrPro starts to load. What is the last line, before it disappears? You might have to point your video camera at the screen to capture what is being loaded, as it can go by quickly.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • I have some photos incorrectly saved as jpeg that won't open.  I was advised that If I right clicked

I could change the file type to psd, they would open.  So far no luck.  Can anyone helf?  Carl Beason at c.beasoncomcast.net

You can not just change the extension.  Open the file and then select "save as".
Or did you save as psd and change extention to jpg?  If so then you can change back to psd as that is what it was saved as.

  • Hyperlinks to XLS, DOC, and PDF files that are included in a .chm file work intermittently.

    SUMMARY
Hyperlinks to XLS, DOC, and PDF files that are included in a
.chm file (and the Baggage Files) only work intermittently. The
only solution appears to be deleting the Temporary Internet Files.
    PROBLEM
    1. I place the XLS, DOC, or PDF file in the Windows
sub-directory that corresponds to the RoboHelp project sub-folder
where the topic in which I’ll place the hyperlink exists.
    2. I open the help project in RoboHelp HTML.
    3. I right-click on the project’s Baggage Files
sub-folder that corresponds to the Windows sub-directory in which I
placed the XLS, DOC, or PDF file (in step 1).
    4. I import the XLS, DOC, or PDF file.
    5. I open the topic in which I’m going to place the
    hyperlink in the WYSIWYG editor.
    6. I “drag and drop” the Baggage File into the
topic (in the WYSIWYG editor) to create a link to it.
    7. I save the changes and then generate HTML (.chm) help.
    8. I open the .chm file and click the hyperlink. The XLS,
DOC, or PDF file may or may not open.
    9. When the hyperlink works correctly, for DOC and XLS files,
a “File Download – Security Warning” dialog box
appears asking, “Do you want to open or save this
file?”. The buttons that are available are
    “Open”, “Save”, and “Cancel”.
These buttons work then as one would expect. (When the hyperlink
works correctly for a PDF file, it simply opens the PDF file in a
new window; there’s no prompt to save, open, or cancel.)
    10. When a hyperlink does NOT work, for DOC, XLS, and PDF
files, no dialog box or other visual message is displayed. Instead,
the sound that is associated with the “Exclamation”
program event is played (the “Windows XP
Exclamation.wav” file is the WinXP default).
    Other Notes:
    - The hyperlinks ALWAYS work when I view a topic using the
“View Selected Item” function (Ctrl+W) in the RoboHelp
    HTML project.
    - Once a hyperlink stops working, it will not start working
again until I delete all the Temporary Internet Files.
    - A hyperlink will stop working even if Internet Explorer
(iexplore.exe) is closed the entire time.
    WORKAROUND
Through trial and error, I have discovered that if a
hyperlink stops working, I can get it to work again using the
    following steps:
    1. Leave the .chm file open.
    2. Open Internet Explorer.
    3. Click Tools>Internet Options….
    4. From the “Internet Options” dialog box, select
    the “General” tab.
    5. Under the “Temporary Internet Files” section,
    click the “Delete Files…” button.
    6. From the “Delete Files” dialog box, select
“Delete all offline content” and then click
“OK”. The files are deleted and the “Delete
    Files” dialog box closes.
    7. Click “OK” to close the “Internet
    Options” dialog box.
    8. Without closing Internet Explorer and without re-starting
the .chm file, all the hyperlinks that didn’t work before
    will now work.

Today is 12/18/06 so the only program file that is listed as
having been “Last Accessed” today is the
    “Shockwave Flash Object”.
    REQUEST FOR HELP
I really want to include certain PDF, DOC, and XLS files in
their native format in a .chm file. However, I need a better
solution to my problem than the one I discovered. What I really
want is to avoid the entire problem altogether.
Have anyone seen this before or have any suggestions?

You wont be able to do that. The embedded objects would appear as images only.

  • One workflow to join docs and pdfs to one big pdf

Hi! I've been trying to do something that, until now, just hasn't worked.
I have a bunch of word docs in a folder and I want to convert them to pdf and join them together. I have no problem with that. But, can I use the same workflow to join pdfs together that were not word docs to begin with? An action to "ignore the conversion" if the file is already a pdf.
Furthermore, can I grab a bunch of docs and pdfs and join them in one giant pdf so that the docs will be converted and then the multiple pdfs joined with just one workflow?
    If so, how?
    Thank you very much.

I am having the same issue, I have tried repairing the installation and it did not work, I have uninstalled and then reinstalled and still no right click options. I have 3 computers with this issue and each of them when you right click will not show any of the acrobat options, but they do have a blank line (no text) that when clicked will open the combine window. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

  • Attachments (word docs and PDFs) to emails can not be opened by the receivers. Are received as .dat files or application/octet-stream

Attachments I add to emails (word doc or PDFs) can not be opened by the email receivers. Word documents attachments are received with ATT00427.dat (application/octet-stream) or .doc with (application/octet-stream). PDF attached files arrive with .pdf (application/octet-stream). My copy of my sent email has the same attachment extensions.

  • Sending a document as an mail attachment with approve and reject button

    Hi all,
i have an infopath form where a user fills the form and on submit the form is saving as an document in the document library,
now my question is, how can i get this document as an mail attachment with approve and reject option.

    Hello,
You need to hide them on form load for user. Add one more hidden control in form and keep control value blank initially. Now add rule on button submit to set the control value to some other so you can hide/show the button.
Now add rule on approve and reject buttons that, if field1 is blank then hide this control.

  • Saving from Safari as PDF results in an icon with 0 byte volume that fails to open as it is "damaged" Why and how to solve?

saving from Safari as PDF results in an icon with 0 byte volume that fails to open as it is "damaged" Why and how to solve?

Back up all data before making any changes. Please take each of the following steps until the problem is resolved.
    Step 1
If Adobe Reader or Acrobat is installed, and the problem is just that you can't print PDF's displayed in Safari, you may be able to print by moving the cursor to the the bottom edge of the page, somewhere near the middle. A black toolbar may appear under the cursor. Click the printer icon.
    Step 2
There should be a setting in its preferences of the Adobe application such as Display PDF in Browser. I don't use those applications myself, so I can't be more precise. Deselect that setting, if it's selected.
    Step 3
If you get a message such as ""Adobe Reader blocked for this website," then from the Safari menu bar, select
    Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Security
    and check the box marked
    Allow Plug-ins
    Then click
    Manage Website Settings...
and make any required changes to the security settings for the Adobe PDF plugin.
    Step 4
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it, the copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C:
    /Library/Internet Plug-ins
    In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-G. Paste into the text box that opens (command-V), then press return.
From the folder that opens, move to the Trash any items that have "Adobe" or “PDF” in the name. You may be prompted for your login password. Then quit and relaunch Safari.
    Step 5
The "Silverlight" web plugin distributed by Microsoft can interfere with PDF display in Safari, so you may need to remove it, if it's present. The same goes for a plugin called "iGetter," and perhaps others — I don't have a complete list. Don't remove Silverlight if you use the "Netflix" video-streaming service.
    Step 6
Do as in Step 4 with this line:
    ~/Library/Internet Plug-ins
If you don’t like the results of this procedure, restore the items from the backup you made before you started. Relaunch Safari.

  • Viewing word docs and PDFs

I want to put word docs or PDFs on my touch. I read that I can save the word docs as PDF and put it in photos or save them as txt and put them in notes, but my computer recognizes my touch as a camera and won't let me drop things in the root folder. I already did the thing where I tell my computer not to ask me what to do with the camera when I connect it, but it still thinks it's a camera. Is there anything I can do to make this work?

Your touch is not a disk drive per se like the old iPod classics or nanos and therefore you won't be dropping anything into it. You can certainly view Word documents and pdfs that are e-mailed to you, however. You can use WiFi to copy files to your touch if you purchase and install the correct apps. Check in the App Store for Documents to Go and similar programs.
Disabling the camera notification is detailed here: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1500
This covers Win 7 and Vista but there is a link to an XP version.

  • I have iPad set with iCloud and I want to set to iTunes

Option Set as new iPad in iTunes affect my data on iPad?

If you mean that you have content on the iPad and you have never synced with iTunes and you now want to start syncing with iTunes - if you set it up as new - you will erase the content that is currently on the iPad.
You can use iCloud and iTunes both - but you need to make the iTunes library on your computer your syncing library first before you can use iTunes.
