I have an error message that won't go away.

The message says "This iPad hasn't been backed up in 5 weeks.  Backups happen when this iPad is plugged in, locked and connected to Wi-Fi."  I have tried to do as instructed, but it doesn't seem to backup and the message won't go away.  I can't even shut the iPad down to try and reset it because I am unable to swipe to power down.  HELP!!

Found another discussion after I posted this.  Followed the instructions given there and it solved my problem!

I have an error message reading 'item over 1 byte. Connect to a wifi network or use iTunes on your computer to download 'tv show'.
When I connect it to iTunes or use a wifi network nothing changes.  The warning remains in place no matter how many times I push 'ok'.  iTunes actually says the show is already fully downloaded.
I can't use any other button or controls because the only thing responding is the 'ok' button on the error message.
I've now given up and am just trying to exhaust the battery.  What a joke.  This device is only a week old.
Anyone else with a suggestion on how to make the error message go away? I'm worried this will happen again.
    Thanks!

    Try this.
Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.

  • How do I unfreeze my ical? ical has an error message that won't go away even if I force quit.

Wondering how to get my ical running again? I have an error message that won't close and ical is unavailable. Error just says the server responded with an error. Happened after I cut and pasted a note into a reminder by accident...

Mine started doing this yesterday after attempting to install the most recent security update (im running Tiger OS 10.4.)
Took a while for me to remedy it but I found that by starting up from the CD that comes with the macbook (by holding 'c' as you switch on) and doing an Archive and Install (took 2 attempts as the first failed) it is working fine again. Installed the update by dragging it from the trash and clicking it and the Macbook seems good again.

  • I cannot open Firefox. I see "firefox" at the top of the window but no other tools. There is an error message that won't go away. I click okay but it just keeps coming back. The message is nonsensical - gibberish.

I've run every diagnostic and "fix" at my disposal and the problem continues. When I click to open Firefox I get a message that is only partially on the screen - upper left hand corner - and when I click okay the entire message shows up. It's still in the upper left hand corner but just keeps reappearing every time I click okay. Error says:
    [JavaScript Application]
    Error on adding toolbar element:
    NS_ERROR_UNEXPECTED, Component returned failure code: 0x8000ffff (NS_ERROR_UNEXPECTED) [nslPrefBranch.getCharPref]

I only have one video project that I ever published to iDisk. It didn't have any music or photo files attatched to it, just a few clips stitched together. I can play these clips right now in the Event Library (so I know the source files are on my computer), but strangely, under the Project Library, the project is not there. I'm almost certain that I didn't store the project on iDisk; I just completed the video and published it to iDisk (as a .mov file I think) for family to see. I've tried to figure out how to get iDisk to stop looking for this project to no avail.
I don't know if others have experienced this, but if I click on any project and on the menu bar select Share --> Remove From --> Media Browser... it lists iPod, iPhone, iPad, tv, Computer and MobileMe. Why would MobileMe be an option here? This is the case for any video project I select. Didn't iLife '11 and/or OSX 10.8 remove all mention of MobileMe? I wonder if this is part of the problem too.
Edit: I just removed every project I have from the Media Browser. Still no luck.

  • Strange error message that won't go away...

...and it also crashes Mail for me.
The message goes something like this:
*Some actions taken while the account "jim@{myemail}.com" was offline could not be completed online.*
Mail has undone actions on some messages so that you can redo the actions while online. Mail has saved other messages in mailbox "On My Mac" in "On My Mac" so that you can complete the actions while online.
Additional information: The IMAP command "APPEND" (to Drafts) failed with server error: Invalid mailbox name..
When this message appears, I click "OK" and then it adds another copy of an email I had tried to send some time ago and the message appears again. This happens 6-8 times before Mail crashes.
    Any ideas?

I had the same problem with my IMAP account and found two solutions here:

  • I keep getting an error message that won't go away

The message is "Host Process for Windows Services has stopped working" and the window pops up every 10 seconds or so.

    You need more RAM.
    http://www.thexlab.com/faqs/lackofram.html
Mostly iTunes, mail, finder, google chrome, and one or two other programs.
What are the "two other programs?" The ones you named shouldn't be consuming all your RAM, even if open concurrently. But I've heard (I don't use it) 10.7 is a memory hog.
Closing open apps may not solve the problem, since that memory is still being held in reserve for them.
This problem is usually caused by a combination of low RAM and low disk space.I am very puzzled when you say you have 895GB left on the drive. That should be an enormous amount of room for the memory to page out (write) to.

I have an error message that reads: java.lang.noclassdefFounder - need to fix can anyone help?

That's a bug in whatever Java program you're running.
That's not an error specific to OS X.
(There's usually a whole lot more text dumped by Java, too.)
Check with whoever wrote or is supporting the package you're working with.

  • I am getting a runtime error message that won't allow itunes to open when I plug in my ipod.  Any suggestions?? I already rebooted my computer.  It worked fine yesterday.

I am getting a run time error message that I've never seen before, it won't allow me to connect my ipod touch with windows.  It says:  An application has made an attempt to load the C runtime library incorrectly.
I have no idea what this means but it was working fine yesterday when I connected it.
I have rebooted my computer and nothing has been fixed.

    Did you do this:
Removing and reinstalling iTunes and other software components for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8

Have shut down the computer overnight and restarted  with no success for the printing situation.

In the system preferences go to the printing preference, open the printer and cancel all jobs

  • HT1459 cannot download itunes to my computer have received error message that cannot download and open itunes because the support piece did not download....please help

Question:  I cannot successfully download itunes to my computer I have tried several times and every time after the download it says that I was unable to get the support piece and therefore cannot open itunes......please help.

With the Error 2, let's try a standalone Apple Application Support install. It still might not install, but fingers crossed any error messages will give us a better idea of the underlying cause of the issue.
Download and save a copy of the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe) installer file to your hard drive:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Download and install the free trial version of WinRAR:
    http://www.rarlab.com/download.htm
Right-click the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64Setup.exe), and select "Extract to iTunesSetup" (or "Extract to iTunes64Setup"). WinRAR will expand the contents of the file into a folder called "iTunesSetup" (or "iTunes64Setup").
Go into the folder and doubleclick the AppleApplicationSupport.msi to do a standalone AAS install.
Does it install properly for you?
If instead you get an error message during the install, let us know what it says. (Precise text, please.)

  • Pop up message that won't go away

After downloading an automatic update for Microsoft Office for Mac, I lost all internet access. After 1.5 hrs with Comcast. Linxsys (my router), Microsoft, India and points closer to home, everyone said--not their fault or maybe it was the router, so...I disconnected the router (only 1 computer in the house), and connected the modem directly into the iMac. (This is between the basement (modem) and 1st floor office (computer).
I seem to have a working Ethernet...I closed the AirPort, no bluetooth except the wireless mouse and keyboard. I keep getting an error box on my screen: "Internet Connect-Could not open the communication device." I click OK and it goes away--and..then it reappears when I click on an internet link. I definitely HAVE internet access, but the error message box keeps coming back, like Freddy.
Please help me make it go away.

Have you tried force quitting the Finder?
Go to Apple menu, select Force Quit..., Click Finder, press Relaunch button
    That should clear it...

  • I have a pop up that won't go away!!!

Let me preface this by saying I reset permissions on my mac after it was giving me some trouble about being able to write files to a external drive as well as my own hard drive (the reset fixed this). I did this by booting into repair boot and reseting permissions and ACL's. The only problem is after booting up I get a pop up login box saying : "networksetup is trying to modify the system network configuration. Type your password to allow this." <<<< this window will not go away no matter how many times I enter my password or hit canel. It goes away for a few seconds and comes right back. I just discovered that my vpn won't turn on either.
    PLEASE HELP!!!!
    <Edited by Host>

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
I've tested these instructions only with the Safari web browser. If you use another browser, they may not work as described.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It won’t solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
Third-party system modifications are a common cause of usability problems. By a “system modification,” I mean software that affects the operation of other software — potentially for the worse. The following procedure will help identify which such modifications you've installed. Don’t be alarmed by the complexity of these instructions — they’re easy to carry out and won’t change anything on your Mac.
These steps are to be taken while booted in “normal” mode, not in safe mode. If you’re now running in safe mode, reboot as usual before continuing.
Below are instructions to enter some UNIX shell commands. The commands are harmless, but they must be entered exactly as given in order to work. If you have doubts about the safety of the procedure suggested here, search this site for other discussions in which it’s been followed without any report of ill effects.
Some of the commands will line-wrap or scroll in your browser, but each one is really just a single line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, and you can then copy it. The headings “Step 1” and so on are not part of the commands.
Note: If you have more than one user account, Step 2 must be taken as an administrator. Ordinarily that would be the user created automatically when you booted the system for the first time. The other steps should be taken as the user who has the problem, if different. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this paragraph doesn’t apply.
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
When you launch Terminal, a text window will open with a line already in it, ending either in a dollar sign (“$”) or a percent sign (“%”). If you get the percent sign, enter “sh” and press return. You should then get a new line ending in a dollar sign.
    Step 1
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it:
    kextstat -kl | awk '!/com\.apple/{printf "%s %s\n", $6, $7}' | open -ef
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Then click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste (command-V). A TextEdit window will open with the output of the command. If the command produced no output, the window will be empty. Post the contents of the TextEdit window (not the Terminal window), if any — the text, please, not a screenshot. You can then close the TextEdit window. The title of the window doesn't matter, and you don't need to post that. No typing is involved in this step.
    Step 2
    Repeat with this line:
    { sudo launchctl list | sed 1d | awk '!/0x|com\.(apple|openssh|vix\.cron)|org\.(amav|apac|cups|isc|ntp|postf|x)/{print $3}'; echo; sudo defaults read com.apple.loginwindow LoginHook; echo; sudo crontab -l; } 2> /dev/null | open -ef
This time you'll be prompted for your login password, which you do have to type. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. Type it carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. Heed that warning, but don't post it. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
Note: If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before taking this step. If that’s not possible, skip to the next step.
    Step 3
    { launchctl list | sed 1d | awk '!/0x|com\.apple|org\.(x|openbsd)/{print $3}'; echo; crontab -l 2> /dev/null; } | open -ef
    Step 4
    ls -A /e*/{cr,la,mach}* {,/}Lib*/{Ad,Compon,Ex,Fram,In,Keyb,La,Mail/Bu,P*P,Priv,Qu,Scripti,Servi,Spo,Sta}* L*/Fonts .la* 2> /dev/null | open -ef
Important: If you formerly synchronized with a MobileMe account, your me.com email address may appear in the output of the above command. If so, anonymize it before posting.
    Step 5
osascript -e 'tell application "System Events" to get name of login items' | open -ef
Remember, steps 1-5 are all copy-and-paste — no typing, except your password. Also remember to post the output.
    You can then quit Terminal.

  • Message that won't go away

Every time I insert a new ink cartridge in my OfficeJet Pro 8600 I get a message  that says Redeem your HP Reward! You have just earned a reward for installing genuine HP ink cartridge - it's that simple. Yellow [Y]: 951XL, etc.
I don't want the reward; I live in India and am not eligible. I reject the message and it pops back up; It's the most obnoxious spam I have encountered, since I can't figure out how to opt out.
