I have an hp laptop and a seemingly incompatab​le Dell printer

Question

I have tried plugging it in via usp and setting it up like that but it stops at about a centimeter of progress in the about 4 or 5 inch bar. The dell printer number im guessing is 07Y643 because the back says "dp/n 07Y643". My operating system is windows 8 on my HP 2000 Notebook PC.

This is may be a disappointment -- you need to install Dell Printer software for a Dell printer.
Dell Personal AIO Printer A940, v.G9, A00
Looks like there is a driver for... Vista.  You could do a search on the Dell site and see if there is anything newer.  You might even be able to use that old Vista Driver in compatibility mode -- or it may even install and run the way it is, although it is som very old code.
Before you try it:
·         Create a Restore Point:   Create a Restore Point – Win7  OR  Create a restore point Win8
You might like to consider a shiny new HP printer!  Yay!
