I have an HP Pavilion 500-267c, can I install a second hard drive in this PC ?

My XP tower is no longer working but there is some information on the hard drive that I would like to retrieve, my present
PC uses Windows 7 operating system. Can my old hard drive be installed into the new HP without ruining the new
computer or the old hard drive ?

Yes, this assumes that the old XP hard drives is healthy.
You may use a USB external hard rive caddy for the old drive or you can directly connect it through the SATA port on you MoBo on you new computer. 99% of the time there will be extra power connections from the power supply on your new machine to power the old drive.
All this assumes that the old drive is SATA interface _ it may be IDE, in which case you would need an adapter to hook it directly to the new computers MoBo.
I don't believe there are any IDE USB external hard drive caddies, although you may want to check to be sure.
The one on top is SATA and the bottom is IDE.

I bought an HP Pavilion 500 - 319na desktop in summer and want to install a 2nd hard drive. There are spare connections on the board and the power cable to the internal hard drive has a spare connection. From what I read it needs to be SATA 3. I have read conflicting advice on this board.  Some say yes, some say no.
OK, there seems to be only one bay (a poor oversight by HP) but provided I find a way of securing another drive is there any reason why it should not work.
From what I read it should be max 2Tb's.
I want a definitive answer please!
    Win 8.1 64 bit.
This is the hard drive I plan to buy.  The spec says XP, Vista, Win 7, but am I right in thinking it should work with win 8.1

As I said to you in the other cross posting (desktop hardware):
You can obtain 3.5" hard drive cage from here for $11 shipped.  Granted it has a 120mm fan and space for 4 drives, but for the price, you can mod/cut all you want.
Now your other issue/question:  You will want a SataIII 6GB/sec drive 2TB, 7200 RPM.

Here are the specs for your HP TouchSmart 320-1130a Desktop Computer. No, you can't install a second hard drive in this computer. The HP TouchSmart and All-in-One computers have more in common with laptops than they do with desktops.

For some reason I'm having problems finding the answer to this.  I would like to install an ssd, but I would like to keep the existing hard drive for space.  Is the a way to install a second hard drive (an ssd) into the x220i?

You can install an SSD drive in the mSATA card slot.

  • Can i install a second hard drive for back up/storage

i have 1td already and could exchange my mac mini for the server editions but im told its much more complicated
i just want to have enough drive space, is it possible to get another hard drive and have it in the mac mini for back up / storage
or would i simply be best to get a USB hub with an external drive  ?

Yes, you can add a 2nd drive. You can review this iFixit.com page for instructions. You would need to purchase their data doubler kit which would include all the parts you need to add it. All you need to remember is to follow their instructions and TAKE YOUR TIME.   There are several little screws and plugs that you have to be careful with. Otherwise, it's a breeze to take the Mini apart and add a 2nd drive.
All the Mac Mini Server has extra is an additional 1TB hard drive and the OS X Server app. If you want OS X Server, you can purchase it on the App Store for $19.99 US.

No, and that shouldn't be done with an AirPort Extreme or Time Capsule.

  • Can I install a 1TB Hard Drive into a late 2007 17" MacBook Pro?

Can I install a 1TB Hard Drive into a late 2007 17" MacBook Pro currently running a 160 GB Hard Drive?

It depends upon exactly what you want to do with your Mac.  My old Late 2007 17" MacBook Pro only has 4GB RAM and it works fine.  It is a little slow if I am doing anything involving heavy computing (rendering video, compiling programs, etc.) but it works just fine.  In most cases, the increased RAM will help performance, but the cost can be fairly high with an older machine like you have.

    Hi,
For many 17" (or 17.3") machines such as Envy 17, dv,  Pavilion 17 .... you can add a second HDD (my old loan dv7 has two HDD's and my current loan Envy 17 also has 2 HDD's). You would need the following kit:

  • Can I install an additional hard drive to my Macbook Pro? (2 Hard drives)

I was wondering whether I could install a second hard drive to my 2011 Macbook Pro (2.0 GHz, 500GB HD 4GB Ram) making a total 1TB hard drive space?

There are third party solutions out there, however be warned they will most likely void any current warranty - as it involves removing your optical drive.   I don't have details on them myself, but when my apple care expires I might consider that on a Late 09 model and push it to dual SSD's

You could put your install disc on a USB Flash drive with Disk Utility. Also, here is the USB optical drive enclosure I bought. He raised the price a few bucks. Mine ran $10.00 with the shipping.

Can I install a bigger hard drive on my HP Laptop dv9230us

Yes and in fact it can accept 2 hard drives. Any 2.5 inch wide SATA laptop hard drive 9.5 mm thick will work and those are available up to 1.5 TB I believe. To add a second hard drive you need a caddy and connector piece sold here:
    http://www.newmodeus.com/shop/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=2_5&products_id=131
There is a link on the page above which will lead you to installation instructions.
If you can give us some idea of what you are looking to do, we can link you to specific places to buy drives at good prices.

  • Can anyone recommend a second hard drive for my PowerPC G5

    Hi,
Sorry if this question has been asked before but I need the answer in a hurry.
I need to fit a second hard drive into my PowerPC G5 - and I have never done this before. I phoned a company to buy a drive and they said that there can be compatibility problems with certian drives and Macs. A friend at work also confirmed this and pointed me to the site www.xlr8yourmac.com which has a database of drives and their associated problems.
Unfortunately I don't have time to digest all of the info. I am letting a friend use my Mac for a project that they are working on and they need the space urgently. They are working to a strict deadline.
So basically what I would like to know is if anyone can recommend a drive that I can fit without it causing any problems. I need a high quality, fast and very quiet drive for audio and video production. The drive should be 250GB, 7200RPM, 16MB cache. The Mac support pages say it must be a serial ATA drive but I have no idea if you can use ATAII or ATA300 (or any other number???).
Also - as I have never done this before - I have heard 'jumpers' mentioned - will I need to set the jumpers to a particular configuration?
    Thanks in advance, Byron.

  • Can I install an internal hard drive in i-mac intel 17" ?

Where can I get an internal hard drive compatible for intel i-mac? I need a larger hard drive, like 250gb or something. Can I install it myself?

You can go to a apple service center like CompUSA and have them install one for you. If you buy the drive from them, they will install it for free, otherwise it is like a 40 dollar charge. DO NOT attempt to install it yourself, not only will you void your warranty, the intel iMac is very difficult to open and work on and you will probably break something.

  • Can you add a second hard drive

Just wondering. what is the exact mobo used in the imac 20inch
is there an extra sata port. would like to add an extension to the ports on the back and be able to add a second hard drive at the speeds that sata allows

No, you can't add another hard drive. There isn't an extra SATA port because the Apple Engineers had to squeeze everything in as close as possible to make the iMac this small and thin. The only user-serviceable/upgradeable part of the iMac is the Memory. For other changes, an Apple Authorized Service Provider has to open up your computer. Another alternative could be a USB 2.0 or FireWire External Hard drive, which would work at up to 500 Mbits/sec.
