I have an IMac 10.6.8 and having trouble loading Canon printer MG8150

Canon MG8150 anyone have ideas on loading the software?

According to:
  http://software.canon-europe.com/products/0010881.asp:
The only driver for your printer that won't work with 10.6.8 definitively is this one, once you pick the language and operating system:
10.  Printer Driver for Mac OSX (7.32.0)
This software is necessary to print documents and images.
Compatibility:
Operating system(s):  Mac OS X 10.4.11, Mac OS X 10.5.x
Language(s):  Dutch, English, French, German, Italian, Spanish
The rest have a good chance of working, since 10.6's printing system is very similar throughout its updates.
Though since they aren't specific to 10.6.8's compatibility, you may find things that don't work as well as perhaps 10.6, and 10.6.1.  For those you may need the open source drivers that were newer*:
http://www.macmaps.com/printersx.html
At least try the Canon drivers and see how they work first.

  • Have new 1.5 Tb drive and having trouble configuring.

This is a strange question but heres whats happening. I installed snow leopard on this new drive I bought because I use my computer for work and I did not want to upgrade my main disk before knowing all my apps work. Trouble is now every time I open photo shop it says its not licensed anymore on this machine? So the questions are a. do i have to reinstall all the programs on this HD to make them run.
The other question is since my original disc was only 250gb and now its pretty much completely full with just applications and running pretty slow, how do I go about sharing apps between the two drives if I do decide to make both disks leopard snow? Can I just drag the application folder over to the new 1.5 tb disk.
Basically I want both drives to act as one large drive with multiple partitions.
Sorry if my question is vague/

This is what I am doing
I boot from the snow leopard drive,
I open photoshop cs4 from the applications folder on the HD with 10.5.8 on it
There is an error saying that photoshop needs to be re-authorized.
Do I need to reinstall photoshop on the leopard snow HD if the HD that photoshop is installed on is running 10.5.8?
In the future say I install snow on both drives. What if I install a program like photoshop or logic studio on only 1 of the drives. Does this mean that all the third party plug ins that I have must be installed on the same disk so that there accessed correctly?

I do something like that, and can confirm 20 feet won't be a problem. More than 30 or so might be.

  • I have an iMac 10.9.3 and the latest Pages.  I am preparing a book for publication.  How do I paginate sections separately?

I have an iMac 10.9.3 and am using the latest edition of iWorks Pages.  I am preparing a book and want to paginate each section separately.  How can I get Pages to number each section starting with 1?

Many thanks, Peter for reacting to my question.  When I do as you suggest, the first page of the section is numbered 1 as I instructed.  But the rest of the section remains unnumbered.  Interestingly, the thumbnail view still shows the page numbers beginning with the prior section and continuing into the next section.  This is very frustrating process.  Perhaps I am overlooking some very simple step in setting up the sections. Any further thoughts or insights would be most appreciated.  (I think I mentioned that this is a book authored by my wife and I simply want page 1 to begin where the book begins).

  • I have an iMac with Microsoft Office and an HD - Time Machine. I'm buying a MacBook Pro and I want to know that if I use the Time Machine to transfer all my stuff the Microsof Office will work or if I need to reinstall it with another licence ?

I have an iMac with Microsoft Office (and several other licenced softs) and an HD - Time Machine that backup all the stuff. I'm buying a MacBook Pro and I would to know that if I use the Time Machine to transfer all my stuff, the Microsof Office will work normally or if I need to reinstall it with another licence?

You do not need a new license. The license file will be found in /Library/Preferences/ and is named, com.microsoft.office.licensing.plist. Be sure it gets transferred and you will be fine. I see no reason why the file would not be in your Time Machine backup nor any reason why it would be restored.
Please visit Pondini's Time Machine FAQ for help with all things Time Machine. You may need help figuring out how to restore your current backup to a new machine.

Snow Leopard breaks quite a few drivers - my Canon exhibited the same problem.
I eventually found updated drivers on the Canon website. You can try that with the HP, but if the all-in-one is more than a year or so old, don't hold your breath.
You can also try Software Update to see if it will offer new drivers, or failing that go to the Support Downloads site and search for HP updates.
In fact there's a new one for HP at the top of the list just now.
You may not necessarily want the latest one, though - check the specs to see if your model is covered; if not, search for the previous update etc.

    Any ideas?
    Thank you.

    Are you using iCloud?
If this were happening to me, the first thing I'd try is to remove the preferences files from your home library folder.
Do you know how to do that?

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
    Step 1
For this step, the title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select
SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages
from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
              View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar at the top of the screen.
In the top right corner of the Console window, there's a search box labeled Filter. Initially the words "String Matching" are shown in that box. Enter the name of the crashed application or process. For example, if Safari crashed, you would enter "Safari" (without the quotes.)
Each message in the log begins with the date and time when it was entered. Select the messages from the time of the last crash, if any. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.
☞ The log contains a vast amount of information, almost all of which is irrelevant to solving any particular problem. When posting a log extract, be selective. A few dozen lines are almost always more than enough.
Please don't indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Please don't post screenshots of log messages—post the text.
☞ Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.
    Step 2
    In the Console window, select
DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION ▹ User Diagnostic Reports
(not Diagnostic and Usage Messages) from the log list on the left. There is a disclosure triangle to the left of the list item. If the triangle is pointing to the right, click it so that it points down. You'll see a list of crash reports. The name of each report starts with the name of the process, and ends with ".crash". Select the most recent report related to the process in question. The contents of the report will appear on the right. Use copy and paste to post the entire contents—the text, not a screenshot.
I know the report is long, maybe several hundred lines. Please post all of it anyway.
If you don't see any reports listed, but you know there was a crash, you may have chosen Diagnostic and Usage Messages from the log list. Choose DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION instead.
In the interest of privacy, I suggest that, before posting, you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.)
Please don’t post other kinds of diagnostic report—they're very long and rarely helpful.

  • I have an iMac desk top, iPad, and two iPhones. Someone (a family relative) has somehow copied text messages, and possibly emails from our iPhones, and sent them to other people. He has had access to my wife's iPhone numerous times. Can I check our iPhone

I have an iMac desk top, iPad, and two iPhones. Someone (a family relative) has somehow copied text messages, and possibly emails from our iPhones, and sent them to other people. He has had access to my wife's iPhone numerous times. Can I check our iPhones to detect any surveillance apps(bugs) on them?

Whose Apple ID are you using? It sounds like whoever co-opted the account may have changed the security questions as well.
    Follow the instructions here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5665
What should I do if I don't remember the answers to my Apple ID security questions?
Try answering them at least once to see if you can get them right, even if you are not sure you remember the answers to your security questions.
If you are confident you can't remember them, try one of the following:
If you have three security questions and a rescue email address
sign in to My Apple ID and select the Password and Security tab to send an email to your rescue email address to reset your security questions and answers.
If you have one security question and you know your Apple ID passwordsign in to My Apple ID and select the Password and Security tab to reset your security question.
If you have one security question, but don't remember your Apple ID password
contact Apple Support for assistance. Learn more about creating a temporary support PIN to help Apple confirm your identity when you contact Apple Support.
Note: If you have forgotten your password and answer your security questions incorrectly too many times in a row, you will be unable to try to answer your security questions for a period of time. During that time you will not be able to reset your password and will not have access to your account.

Unfortunately what you need is something that is designed for PowerPC Macs.  Stuff that is designed for Intel Macs will not work.  The PowerPC (PPC) Mac software is getting scarcer.    Macs in 2006 shifted to Intel CPUs.  Stuff that is designated Universal will work, and you can buy the retail 10.5 if you have no Mac OS 9 related software that needs to load.  If you partition your hard disk, or use an external Firewire hard drive partition just for booting into 10.4.11 or earlier, you can still use Classic for Mac OS 9.  My user tip here discusses your options:
    https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-2275
Don't dump your PowerPC Mac yet, Appleworks has no equivalent in the Intel Mac world once upgraded to Mac OS X 10.7 or later, and this tip covers Appleworks:
    https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-2522
So you are unfortunately stuck in the transition period, but if carefully reviewed can be done right if you ready all your documents for the transition when you can afford it.

i have an iMac 10.8.3 and want to get wireless speakers to put upstairs so I can listen to sky.fm. What do I need to get? I do not have wireless internet. Thanks

I would think Airport Express would do the job (this is UK store site but it should be available wherever you are):
    http://store.apple.com/uk/product/MC414B/A/airport-express
It has an audio output socket and air play will stream music from your mac to the device wirelessly.  If you want to listen to the radio will need to do so via iTunes or use a program such as Airfoil (free):

The previous owner left a Recovery HD partition on the drive. You cannot use it because it will only install a version of OS X that is tied to that persons Apple ID. You cannot use his/her Apple ID nor reinstall his/her copy of OS X. You must start, literally, from scratch.
You can purchase Snow Leopard through the Apple Store: Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard - Apple Store (U.S.). The price is $19.99 plus tax. You will be sent physical media by mail after placing your order.
After you install Snow Leopard you will have to download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 to update Snow Leopard to 10.6.8 and give you access to the App Store. Access to the App Store enables you to download Mavericks if your computer meets the requirements.
         Snow Leopard General Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel processor
           2. 1GB of memory
           3. 5GB of available disk space
           4. DVD drive for installation
           5. Some features require a compatible Internet service provider;
               fees may apply.
           6. Some features require Apple’s iCloud services; fees and
               terms apply.
    Clean Install of Snow Leopard
Be sure to make a backup first because the following procedure will erase
the drive and everything on it.
         1. Boot the computer using the Snow Leopard Installer Disc or the Disc 1 that came
with your computer.  Insert the disc into the optical drive and restart the computer.
After the chime press and hold down the  "C" key.  Release the key when you see
a small spinning gear appear below the dark gray Apple logo.
         2. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue
button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
After DU loads select the hard drive entry from the left side list (mfgr.'s ID and drive
size.)  Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.  Set the number of
partitions to one (1) from the Partitions drop down menu, click on Options button
and select GUID, click on OK, then set the format type to MacOS Extended
(Journaled, if supported), then click on the Apply button.
         3. When the formatting has completed quit DU and return to the installer.  Proceed
with the OS X installation and follow the directions included with the installer.
         4. When the installation has completed your computer will Restart into the Setup
Assistant. Be sure you configure your initial admin account with the exact same
username and password that you used on your old drive. After you finish Setup
Assistant will complete the installation after which you will be running a fresh
install of OS X.  You can now begin the update process by opening Software
Update and installing all recommended updates to bring your installation current.
Download and install Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1.
