I have an imac with intel core 2 duo, I need to format and do't know how to do?

Hi,
I need to formate my imac, which has the processor 2.16 GHz intel core 2 duo. the operative system is mac os  version 10.4.11  withx what is the best way to do that. I have an extern hard disc and already made a back up. All I need is to formate my imac. I have never done this before and I will be greatful for some information.

So, what are the problems requiring you to format it?
Do you have the install disks that came with the computer? If yes, insert the disk, and hit restart while holding C on the keyboard. Once you are past the language selection, go to the Utilities in the top menu, choose Disk Utility and choose your hard drive - you can format/partition/erase it from there.
Or, if the backup up you made is bootable, you can use it for boot with, then use Disk Utility as above.

I have an Imac with the Intel Core Duo Processor.  Will I be able to upgrade to the new OSX Lion?

You need a Core 2 Duo or later to use Lion.  You will need to install Snow Leopard in order to access the Mac App Store to download Lion when it becomes available.

  • I have an iMac 2GHz Intel Core Duo, what is possible with Lion

I have an iMac 2GHz Intel Core Duo,  is that possible to operate Lion with this iMac

Here is the information about  downloading Lion when it is released in July.

If you don't meet these requirements, as of now, you wouldn't be able to run Lion.  If anything changes, I am sure Apple will let us know.

  • I have several macs with Intel core duo 2 operating systems. All are running os x10.6.8. Is it necessary to upgrade to Lion before upgrading to mountain lion when it comes out this summer? Do I need to have the "base" version of 10.7?

This is unknown, it will be up to Apple and AFAIK they haven't announced that yet.

Never mind, I see that I need a new computer, even though this one is great.  Sheeeesh.

    Hi,
the Intel Core Duo processor is a 32-bit only processor and not capable of 64-bit.
Only the Core 2 Duo and later processors are capable of 64-bit.
    Sorry

  • I am running OSX 10.5.8 on a 2008 Imac with  Intel Core 2 duo am I compatible with OSX 10.6 snow leopard, much less Lion and Mountain Lion?

I want to link all my apple products so I can use icloud with ease but I am running OSX 10.5.8 on a 2008 imac with intel core 2 duo and not sure it's going to be beneficial or compatible. Is my desktop really just an external hard drive alreadt in 5 years? I just purchased a mac book pro 2012 and also have a 3Gs iphone I just want to have a happy apple family ; )

Your computer is compatible with all of those OSes, but may need more RAM to run 10.7 or 10.8. As the RAM requirement is the same for both 10.7 and 10.8, don't bother with 10.7 unless you're using software incompatible with 10.8.

  • Will Mountain Lion work on my 4 year old iMac with Intel Core 2 Duo   Processor Speed:     2.66 GHz

Will Mountain Lion work on my 4 year old iMac with Intel Core 2 Duo processor and a 2.66 gHz.
Really do not want to load it and find there are issues.
Oh I really not a big tech guy I just want everything to work well.
And I'm just about to purchase a Mac Book Pro as well.
Any thoughts and comments would be appreciated
    Cheers

I also have a 4 year old iMac 24". it is the 3.06 GHz Core 2 Duo. I have been running Mountain Lion since it was released, and before that Lion. Runs great. Over the last month I have noticed some slow data transfers from a USB harddrive. But not enough to do any research. I use a USB harddrive for my Time Machine backup and notice no problems or slow transfers while the Time Machine backup runs. My iTunes has its nedia files on a USB harddrive and is used to watch videos, play music and share photos on the AppleTV. I also use Aperture on the iMac to store and manage 20,000 photos.
I have 6 GB of ram, 4GB and 2GB memory sticks. I know it is best to have identical ram sticks but my iMac model cannot run 8GB of ram and I feel 6GB is better than 4GB.
Mountain Lion is a great OS and I am glad I upgraded. It works great with the AppleTV (no airplay but iTunes on the iMac serves up all our music, photos and videos), iPhone, and iPod Touch. Also with my wifes brand new Macbook Pro. All the devices including the iMac can share data on iCloud.

  • I have a MacBook Pro with Intel Core Duo and Snow Leopard 10.6.8. Want to upgrade to Lion to take advantage of icloud. Is there anything I can do without getting a new MacPro?

I have a MacBook Pro with Intel Core Duo and Snow Leopard 10.6.8. Would like to upgrade to Lion but it requires a minimum of Intel Core 2 Duo. Can I get what I need or do I have to buy new MacBok Pro?

I also have a core duo MBP with Snow Leopard and it runs perfectly.  There are very few things it cannot do as compared to the faster, newer MBPs, but that is attributable to the CPU, not the OS.  There are some who view Lion as downgrade rather than as an improvement.  If there are important applications that reqire a fast CPU or Lion features that you find essential, by all means get a new MBP.
I have an aphorism:  Obsolescence is more often a perception rather than a reality.  Besides the silver keys look much classier than the black ones.
    Ciao.

I am looking to update to a new imac with intel core processor. I am still old school with a powerbook G4:)
I want to know if I am going to have to upgrade all graphic programs right away after buying new computer.
Trying to weigh ALL costs involved.
    Thanks for any advice!!!

Anything you have that is powerpc code only will not run on a new machine.  OS X 10.8 has no support for powerpc code (universal binary programs should be fine).
Other than that warning, without knowing exactly what programs you have, and what version you are on, it is hard to say whay will or will not migrate alright.
you might need to do some web searching and check apps at sites like roaringapps or on the programs Company web site.

  • Can I install Mountain Lion 64-bit over top of 32-bit version installed by mistake.  M/c is 24-inch mid 2007 iMac with Intel Core 2 Duo (64-bit?)

Can I install Mountain Lion 64-bit over top of 32-bit version installed by mistake.  Machine is 24-inch mid 2007 iMac with Intel Core 2 Duo (64-bit?)

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
Mountain Lion is a full 64-bit operating system. Why do you think Mountain Lion is 32-bit in your computer?
To check that you are definitely using a 64-bit operating system, open Terminal (in /Applications/Utilities) and type:
    uname -a
Then, tell us what you see at the end after RELEASE. If you see i386, you are running a 32-bit operating system. If you see x86_64, you are using a 64-bit operating system. Also, the processor of your Mac is 64-bit

  • Can I upgrade to lion when i have a 2 GHz Intel core duo processor ( my computer is 6 years Old)  I have snow leopard now.

Can I Upgrade my computer to Lion.  I have a 2 GHz Intel Core Duo Processor.  My computer is 6 years old.  Right now I have Snow Leopard.

I have an old iMac about that age that I upgraded to Lion to test my 3rd party applications for compatibility. It upgraded quite simply. Please backup or save all your info/etc to an external CD/DVD/Hard drive, then try to run the installer. The Lion installer will analize your Mac for compatibility before it does anything, and will alert you to it's decisision. My 17" iMac is also 2 GHZ Intel core duo. Surprisingly for many of the things I use it for it works as good as my multi thousand dollar MacPro workstation. Best of luck. But Lion isn't compatible with many third party applications and drivers for printers; scanners; etc.

Can I upgrade my 2006 iMac 4,1 with Intel Core Duo w/1/5GB memory, 667GHz Bus Speed, 2GHz Processor Speed to the newer OS systems?
I have been told my machine is now "vintage or obsolete" and can't be upgraded to the newest OS software.

The maximum OS for that iMac is 10.6.8.

  • Lion for Imac G5 Intel Core Duo

I understand that upgrading to Lion needs Intel chipset. I have an Imac G5 Core Duo (currently running OSX 10.5.8), but not the Core 2 Duo that's listed in the Lion specs. Will Lion work with Intel Core Duo? I realize that I'll need to put Snow Leopard on first.
    Thx / AWL

Lion won't work on a G5 or Core Duo Mac.

  • Adobe Air on iMac G5  Intel Core Duo 2133

I have just tried to download an update to Adobe Air and been notified that the updates will no longer work on my iMac.
This is the quote from their web site :
Adobe will be discontinuing support of PowerPC-based computers and the Windows 2000 operating system for Adobe AIR and will no longer provide security updates for Adobe AIR on these operating systems.
As I have an Intel based machine is this the PowerPC model they talk about?
What on earth do I have to do now? Do I delete Adobe Air and make several applications useless? I am starting to get downloadable things that use the latest Adobe Air....

Your signature says: 867 MHz PowerPC G4
Your thread title says iMac G5 Intel Core Duo 2133. There is no such thing. It is either an Intel imac or a PPC G5 iMac.
As I have an Intel based machine is this the PowerPC model they talk about?
Obviously, if what you quote is accurate.
Please clarify what Mac you actually have, and what operating system you use (you quote Panther).
