I have an iMac with Mac OS X, version 10.6.8. Should I update the software?

You posted in the iPad forum, just in case you don't realize that. If you are asking if you should update in reference to using an iPad with the iMac, Snow Leopard 10.6.8 is the minimum system requirement in order to sync an iPad with a Mac now.
If the question was in reference to updating software in general, you might want to ask here.

    Hello, try kguy's solution here...
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/2332457?start=0&tstart=0
First, Go to System Preferences, keyboard, and click on the Keyboard tab
Make sure that the checkbox by "Use all F1, F2, etc, keys as standard function keys" is NOT checked.
Next, click on the Show All button, and select Bluetooth. You should see your Apple Wireless Keyboard listed on the left side of the screen.
Click once to select it, and then click the gear icon at the bottom of the box, and choose Disconnect.
Power off the keyboard by holding down the power button on the keyboard for a few seconds until it show "keyboard Off on your imac screen, then turn it back on again.
The device should appear once again in your bluetooth list.
Try out the volume control buttons now, and see if that cleared things up

  • HT1338 I have an iMAC with OS X 10.4.11. HOw can I update the OS?

I have an iMAC with OS X 10.4.11. How can I upgrade the OS?

OK. You can upgrade all the way to Mountain Lion if you wish. But you will need to upgrade RAM once you get to Snow Leopard - 10.6.x and above. Here's the requirements:
    Snow Leopard General requirements
Mac computer with an Intel processor
    1GB of memory
    5GB of available disk space
    DVD drive for installation
Some features require a compatible Internet service provider; fees may apply.
Some features require Apple’s MobileMe service; fees and terms apply.
    Lion System Requirements
Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7, or Xeon processor
    2GB of memory
    OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
    7GB of available space
Some features require an Apple ID; terms apply.
Apple - OS X Mountain Lion - Read the technical specifications.
Macs that can be upgraded to OS X Mountain Lion
    iMac (Mid 2007 or newer)
MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer)
MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer)
MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer)
Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer)
Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer)
    Xserve (Early 2009)
    Are my applications compatible?
See App Compatibility Table - RoaringApps - App compatibility and feature support for OS X & iOS.
    You can upgrade your RAM:
    Maximum Memory
6.0 GB (Actual) 4.0 GB (Apple)
    Memory Slots
    2 - 200-pin PC2-5300 (667MHz) DDR2 SO-DIMMs
I would recommend upgrading to the maximum your computer supports.

  • I've a ten year-old iMac, with Mac OS X version 10.5.8

    I've a ten year-old iMac, with Mac OS X version 10.5.8 & PowerPC G5 processor
Problem is iTunes, reinstalled recently as 10.6.3; saying needs QuickTime 7.5.5 or higher.

the iTunes 10.6.3 was installed a few days ago by the same tech person selling me the computer about two years ago, when the OS was reinstalled including iTunes.  I've not been able to make iTunes work since the computer was returned.
The tech person is busy and will get back to me eventually, so I'm trying to see if I can do anything by myself.  This shouldn't of happened, though everyone makes mistakes; is what I'm guessing?

  • HT4623 I have an iPhone 4 and for some reason I'm not able to update the software. I go to Settings then General but it doesn't even have a Software Update option. Am I missing something?

With iOS 4, the only way to update your software is connected to iTunes.  OTA (over the air) updates were not available until iOS 5.  You will need to connect your iPhone to a computer and use iTunes to download and install the iOS updates on your iPhone (at least until your iOS version is 5.0 or higher).

  • Hi - i have an ipod and when i connect to my pc and try to update the software, its says that cannot update as im not connected to the internet even though i am. what can i do?

hi - i have an ipod and when i connect to my pc and try to update the software, its says that cannot update as im not connected to the internet even though i am. what can i do?

    Update Server
    Try:
    - Powering off and then back on your router.
    - iTunes for Windows: iTunes cannot contact the iPhone, iPad, or iPod software update server
    - Change the DNS to either Google's or Open DNS servers
    Public DNS — Google Developers
    OpenDNS IP Addresses
    - For one user uninstalling/reinstalling iTunes resolved the problem
    - Try on another computer/network
    - Wait if it is an Apple problem

  • How to update the iPad iOS version? I have an iPad (first generation) iOS 5.1.1. I can't update the software via WiFi nether via iTunes

I have an iPad (probably first generation - Model A1337 ). This tablet has iOS version 5.1.1.
I would like to update for the latest version as possible.
There is no option by iPad wifi.
I also tried by iTunes and in option Checking for UpDate, only let me know the current version, but doesn't open the possiblity to update for a newer.
How can I update the software version ?
    tks
    Reinaldo

    Hi,
The first generation iPad is limited to iOS 5.1.1. This is due to the original iPad not having enough power or memory to get to iOS 6, 7 or any further in the future.
All other iPads and iPad Minis can get to the current version - iOS 7.0.4 and at least until the end versions of iOS 7 or iOS 8.
Hope this helps, and Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!

  • I have 2 iMacs with Maverick. One shows DVD's requiring Adobe Flash fine the other plays for a while then I get parts of the DVD presentation that freezes cursor movement but the video

I have two iMacs both with Maverick. When working with Training DVD's requiring Adobe Flash there is no trouble with one iMac but the other will have problems. The DVD will run fine and then there will be a break (5-10 seconds) in the audio but not the video. When the audio comes back on the presentors movement of the curson will be frozen. Have I disabled something on the one computers but not the other to cause this problem?

  • Y imac is running on 10.5.8 and im trying to update the software to 10.6.8 or higher what can i do

my imac is very old and is running on 10.5.8 version and i would like to update it to 10.6.8 or a higher version. when i click on download it allows me but once it gets to a installment part i get an alert that says i need 10.9 software. i dont know what do do please help

You have already seen that you cannot load the new iTunes into your 10.5.8, so as Neil says, you need Snow Leopard (current cost £14).    And you'll probably need to update the disc you buy via the combo update, though that is free.
As far as the new iTunes is concerned, there's been a certain amount of grumbling so you may want to study the forums before you update.   The main problem has been with album artwork which does not transfer easily.

  • How do I stop Safari from "closing unexpectedly" on my iMac with Mac OS X Version 10.6.8?

Hi, my safari just started to close unexpectedly on my iMac. If anyone can help solve this problem that would be great. Thanks.

    Hey UKR95S,
Unsupported third-party add-ons may sometimes cause Safari to unexpectedly quit, so I'd read through this article and see if that might be the case:
