I have an iPad, 1st generation; how do I go about deleting emails

that are down loaded from iCloud, but have already been read on my desktop computer.  I use Gmail for my default mail.  Any suggestions?

iCloud Mail works works using IMAP rather than POP3. IMAP is best to use with multiple devices and keeps everything in sync. If your read it on your computer it will be marked read on all other devices. If you want to delete the message you delete it on any devices and it will be deleted from them all. Basically you have one Mail box that can be maintained and looks the same on all devices.
With POP3 your mail can be stored on a server and a separate copy of your messages is downloaded to each device requiring you to maintain each individual device. GMail can be setup to work both ways.

  • I have an iPad 1st Generation and would like to use it when in Istanbul.  How do I do this and will it cost anything?

I have an iPad 1st Generation Wi-Fi + 3G but my network is Verizon.  I would just like to use it when in Istanbul to check and send email to the US and to Skype.  Is this possible? Do I need to enable or disable anything to use it, or just turn it on?  And, (finally!) is it totally free using a free wi-fi connection?  Thanks much - the Verizon site is too confusing!

Thank you for replying, but I don't quite understand.  I don't need mobile internet at all times.  I am hoping to bring my iPad and only use it in the hotel lobby which has wifi.  I am trying to determine if it can be used to recieve and send email while in Istanbul as well as get on Skype.  Also - will how to do this be apparent to me when I turn it on - or do I need to set any preferences (etc).  And will Verizon apply any charges?  This is an iPad 1st gen and though it has 3G, I have never used it - only with wifi.  Thanks!

I have an iPad 1st generation that no longer has working volume buttons but every once in a while the sound turns on.  So I know the speakers still work.  I have tried resetting all settings and made sure that my side switch was auto lock not auto mute. I have tried the mystical swiping upward on the screen with 4 fingers to get some special sound menu (which I never succeeded in getting).  My headphone jack doesn't work all the time either so some times my kids can hear their games and sometimes they can't.  I am super frustrated at this point.  So any suggestions would be great.  Am I missing something basic or do we just have a soundless iPad now?

how to set up my ipad 1 st generation on my computer

What do you mean how do you set it up? Turn the iPad on and connect it to your computer with the cable that came with the iPad. If the iPad hasn't been activated - and assuming that you are running iTunes on your computer - iTunes should launch automatically and guide you through the activation process.
If you do not have iTunes, you can download it for free.

  • I have an iPad 1st generation. App store crashes often. So do my apps. Is there a fix?

I tried the troubleshooting before I went on here. I have some kind of log that's keeping a working list as to what's going on. Can anyone help me sort this out? Thanks in advance

    Hi Lpalcic,
If you are having multiple issues across multiple apps, you may want to try backing up all your data to iTunes, then restoring your iPad to factory settings and testing to see if the issues persist before returning your data from the backup. You may find the following article helpful:

  • HT4972 Cannot update iPad 1st generation!

I have an iPad 1st generation, version 4.2.1 and when I go to Settings > General there is no update button between "About" and "Sounds"....On iTunes on my computer it says "check for update" but then it says it cannot connect to the iTunes store... HELP!!

If you have an iPad 1, the max iOS is 5.1.1. For newer iPads, the current iOS is 6.1. The Settings>General>Software Update only appears if you have iOS 5.0 or higher currently installed.

If you are currently running an iOS lower than 5.0, connect the iPad to the computer, open iTunes. Then select the iPad under the Devices heading on the left, click on the Summary tab and then click on Check for Update.
Tip - If connected to your computer, you may need to disable your firewall and anitvirus software temporarily.  Then download and install the iOS update. Be sure and backup your iPad before the iOS update. After you update an iPad (except iPad 1) to iOS 6.x, the next update can be installed via wifi (i.e., not connected to your computer).
Tip 2 - If you are updating using wifi, locate your iPad close to your router so you don't get a wifi dropout (can cause update corruption).

  • IPad 1st Generation Error 1602...

Hey guys I've got a problem. I have this iPad 1st Generation 32GB with Cellular Service that I got. Bought from someone who couldn't fix it for cheap and now I know the extent of why he sold it to me. The iPad is in a constant boot loop and no matter what it won't stop. So I decided I would just do a restore and try to fix the issue that way. Nope, I get the error...
"The iPad "iPad" could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (1602)."
The more I research the topic all I come across are sketchy youtube videos where you have to download certain software off of sites that seem suspect. I've used 3 different computers including my MacBook and nothing seems to work. If you guys have any clue on how to fix this issue let me know. Obviously this iPad is a bit old by todays technology standards and can only run up to iOS 5.1. If you can help me out that would be great, thank you!

The 1602 usually relates to a problem with your USB connection. Bad port on the computer, bad cable or something in the connection port on the iPad that prevents a good connection.

  • IPad 1st Generation not syncing!

I have an Ipad 1st generation. It is as upgraded as possible for it's generation. Whenever connected to my computer I am unable to update existing apps. I have also not been able to add new apps. It will allow me to remove whatever I want.

I think that what you are saying about the problem being with the computer's OS (which is 10.9.2/maverick) may be the problem. Maybe that in conjunction with the latest iTunes upgrades are a problem with my older iPad.
But I don't get any kind of error message when I am trying to either sync, or update apps. The only messages I have gotten were when I attempted to update the netflix app directly on my iPad using the app store. And then the message said that the update I was attempting to install was not compatible with my iPad's OS. It then went on to inform me that I could instead re-install an earlier version of the netflix app that would work on my iPad. I installed it, and it works perfectly.--But when I connect the computer directly to my iPad so I could update some of the apps is when all the problems began. There were 22 updates available. When I tried to sync/apply changes(which included updates to 22 apps)iTunes carried on as though the sync was being done with all the changes requested. At the end of sync there was no sound to announce that the sync was done. When I looked back at the list of apps, all those that had said "will update" before I clicked apply, then said "update". Itunes had bounced out  all changes I wanted, and was acting as if it had done all that I wanted. Nothing was done. Nothing at all. And during the sync process all messages indicated that the sync was going as it was supposed to.

  • IPad 1st generation crash down

    Hello everybody,
I have an iPad 1st generation with the latest iOS.
Since a while I recognize, that e. g. the Safari on iPad crash down and I have to restart Safari. If it goes worse, the crash downs repeat and repead and suddenly after a while it works like nothing happened before.
A reboot of the device do not help.
    Any ideas?
    Kind regards,
    Michael

Reboot the device by pressing and holding down the home and sleep/wake buttons (power) at the same time until the apple logo appears on the screen, then let go.
If that doesn't work then reset the device by going to settings/general/reset/reset all settings

  • Ipad 1st Generation Disabled

Hey I have an iPad 1st Generation which is disabled,
I have read that the iPad needs to be plugged into the last computer it was synced with however the last computer got a virus and won't turn on is there any other way for me to unlock the iPad?
    Cheers

It needs to be connected to a computer to unlock it, you just won't be able to resync your content to the iPad if it's not on that computer. And you may need to put the iPad into recovery mode : http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1808

Did you backup the iPad first? If you did - restore from the backup in order to restore the photos in the Saved Album on your iPad. If the photos were synced to the iPad, then sync them back again via iTunes.
How to backup and restore from a backup

If you did backup first, you will be restoring your most recent backup and you should be OK. But know that when you restore from a backup, you restore everything that is in that backup onto the iPad .... All documents, device settings, all data and so on. You cannot just select photos to restore to the iPad. It's all or nothing.

Note - When troubleshooting wifi connection problems, don't hold your iPad by hand. There have been a few reports that holding the iPad by hand, seems to attenuate the wifi signal.
Some Wi-Fi losses may stem from a problematic interaction between Wi-Fi and cellular data connections. Numerous users have found that turning off Cellular Data in Settings gets their Wi-Fi working again.
You may have many apps open which can possibly cause the slowdown and possibly the loss of wifi. In iOS 4-6 double tap your Home button & at the bottom of the screen you will see the icons of all open apps. Close those you are not using by pressing on an icon until all icons wiggle - then tap the minus sign. For iOS 7 users, there’s an easy way to see which apps are open in order to close them. By double-tapping the home button on your iPhone or iPad, the new multitasking feature in iOS 7 shows full page previews of all your open apps. Simply scroll horizontally to see all your apps, and close the apps with a simple flick towards the top of the screen.
