Have you tried restarting it? Simultaneously press and hold both the Sleep / Wake and Home buttons and keep them depressed until it powers down. Then, press the Sleep / Wake switch to power it back up again.

I just found that I can't Sync my Iphone either and it gave the same error code.... it must be a ITunes problem.

Let's start with iTunes.
Have you updated iTunes to 11.1.5, because the previous version did appear to have an issue about seeing iPods?
With iTunes 11.1.5 installed, look in Edit/Preferences/Devices, (or use the ALT key, followed by the E key and then the F key) and make sure that the box named Prevent iPods, iPhones and iPads from syncing automatically does not have a tick in the box.
Once you have doen those two things, check to see if the iPod is seen by iTunes.

OS stands for Operating System. (In computer speak, IO means Input/Output.)
iOS originally stood for iPhone Operating System, but it now refers to the iPod Touch and iPhone. The iPod Classic, which you have listed in your profile as your iPod, does not use iOS.

If you really need to upgrade you can save a bit of money and get an older version than the ipad Air.
First, you can sell your ipad 1 to places like gazelle.com, cashforyourmac.com, sellyour mac.com, or many others out there. The sites I listed give you cash. At this point gazelle.com is giving $70.00 for any ipad 1 in 'good' condition. And cashforyourmac will give you $25.00 over what gazelle.com or sellyourmac.com offers you. Shipping is free.
Then, with that money, go the the Apple online certified refurbished store. As an example, a new 64gb Air costs $699.00. A refurbed 4th gen 64gb costs $529.00 and a 3rd gen 64gb costs $499.00. Personally, I'd skip the 3rd gen. This may not be exactly what you are looking for but my wife and I have a similar situation and all we do is invite each other to any calendar stuff we both need to know about. Another way you could do it is us a 3rd party calendaring that will duplicate all your entries on their server and your wife would do the same and setup a single account with that service that you both attach to your built in calendaring provided you give proper permissions. The one I would try is google calendaring which works well if you have a gmail account.

Some things to try first:
1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.

Note - When troubleshooting wifi connection problems, don't hold your iPad by hand. There have been a few reports that holding the iPad by hand, seems to attenuate the wifi signal.
Some Wi-Fi losses may stem from a problematic interaction between Wi-Fi and cellular data connections. Numerous users have found that turning off Cellular Data in Settings gets their Wi-Fi working again.
You may have many apps open which can possibly cause the slowdown and possibly the loss of wifi. In iOS 4-6 double tap your Home button & at the bottom of the screen you will see the icons of all open apps. Close those you are not using by pressing on an icon until all icons wiggle - then tap the minus sign. For iOS 7 users, there’s an easy way to see which apps are open in order to close them. By double-tapping the home button on your iPhone or iPad, the new multitasking feature in iOS 7 shows full page previews of all your open apps. Simply scroll horizontally to see all your apps, and close the apps with a simple flick towards the top of the screen.

If you have owned the device, as in purchased from Apple, less than a year then there will be no charge to repair, or most likely, replace the device. If you have had the device more than a year you will be charged an out of warranty cost for replacement ($219 I think) and that is much cheaper than a new device. If you have Applecare+ then you have an additional year of coverage and the replacement will be $49 or $79 depending on when you got the Applecare.

I have moved the antenna to within 20' of where the vehicle comes to a stop. My Iphone does not have a problem connecting or reconnecting when used side by side with the Ipad. Both the Ipad and Iphone have Otter box covers. Has anyone run into this problem or have any suggestions?

30 seconds to reconnect to a WiFi network is not unusual, especially in an environment where other radio signals on similar frequencies are present. Sorry about that.
You might get better times by letting the WiFi base station pick another channel. But you might not.

There's an article that Apple has acknowledged this issue. They recommend turning off imessages, reset all settings and then reactivate imessages.
If that doesn't work, you may just have to wait until they release an update, which should be pretty soon.
