I have an iPad, should I buy an iPhone?

I have an iPad 2 and I really think I want an iPhone 4S. I feel like it will almost be redundant to have two devices with generally the same operating system. I just want someone's opinion as to whether I would be happier with an iPad and a phone with a different operating system, or an iPad and an iPhone (if I should get an iPhone, please tell me reasons and benefits of having both.) thanks!
Also on a side note, if I were to jailbreak an iPhone, is there a tethering app or something that I can use to tether my iPad to my iPhone for free? I rooted my android and downloaded a tether app and now I can tether for free and I really hope I can with iOS also.

I think so. Having a fluid OS between two devices is a major plus imo. Especially now with icloud, imessaging, and other wireless features with iOS5. It's not really about being redundant... it's more about being able to transition between the ipad and iphone with seamless effort. Whatever info you change on one, automatically changes on the other. If anything, redunancy is almost eliminated. And yes you can tether after jailbreaking.

  • Should You Buy An iPhone Now, Or Wait For The Next One?

    Great article by HuffPost Tech.
The most common thing I get asked whenever I tell anyone I'm a tech writer is some version of the question: "Should I get a new iPhone now, or should I wait until the next one comes out?" It is as though my business card should read not "Technology Writer," and instead "iPhone Psychic"
Not that I am not happy to prognosticate! And in that spirit, here's a look at the questions on everyone's mind: Should I buy an iPhone now? And if not now, when?
First, let me say that I am fascinated by the peculiar kind of panic that I encounter in people I meet who are deciding on a purchase date for their next Apple phone. I call it the iSenberg Uncertainty Principle: Potential iPhone buyers exist in a constant state of anxiety, perpetually worrying that purchasing an iPhone on any given day will mean that they will miss out on the inevitably cooler version with the mind-blowing new features soon down the road. The Cupertino Sword of Damocles constantly dangles over their heads, threatening to pierce them with unhipness and iShame.
Here is one solid piece of advice I can offer to help you avoid the Sword: Do not buy any new iPhone until September. Apple has an annual media conference each September, and every blog with the word 'Mac' in the title is reporting that Steve Jobs is going to do his black turtleneck thing and introduce some kind of new iPhone there. The September Media conference is generally used to present the new iPods, but as All Things Digital reports, Apple plans to "commandeer" the conference for its official iPhone announcement.
Apple is long overdue to release its new iPhone anyway, if history is any indication. Look at this handy little timeline:
    June 2007: original iPhone released
    June 2008: iPhone 3G released
    June 2009: iPhone 3Gs released
    June 2010: iPhone 4 released
    June 2011: Nothing!
In other words, the 5th generation iPhone is already a month late, so it makes sense that the rumors are swirling. Apple's tardiness can be explained by the fact they've actually already released two iPhones in 2011 -- the Verizon iPhone in February and the unlocked iPhone 4 in June. Their schedule is all screwy, like a traveler trying to get over jet lag. But all signs point to them getting right with a September Apple iPhone release.
So what jaw-dropping new feature will this iPhone boast? We're hearing that the "iPhone 4S," as it is rumored to be called, won't be the dramatic re-imagining that many of us have come to expect with each new iPhone release. Tech blogThis Is My Next thinks that it will be thinner and lighter, and that it will run on a new chip; the New York Times thinks that it will be the same dimensions as the iPhone 4 but that it will be cheaper. Bloomberg agrees with This Is My Next on the chip and adds that the rear-facing camera will upgrade to 8 megapixels from 5 megapixels.
Now, even if you're just a normal, non-geek iPhone user, who doesn't care if the rear-facing camera doubles its megapixel count, or if Apple has changed the manufacturer of its data processors, or whatever, you still need to at least wait for the alleged iPhone announcement, and here's why: if history is any indicator, the introduction of a newer iPhone model is accompanied by a drop in price of older iPhone models. When the iPhone 3GS was announced, the price of the iPhone 3G dropped by $100; when the iPhone 4 was announced, the price of an iPhone 3GS also dropped by $100. Even if you know that you're not going to drop $400 on whatever iPhone Apple begins peddling in September, there is no sense in paying more money for an iPhone 4 or 3Gs now when the base price of both seem like locks to drop in two months.
But before we start fantasizing, how can we be so certain that Jobs is even going to announce an iPhone in September if Apple hasn't so much as indicated such a thing? How do we know that all of these rumors weren't just started by lonely nerds like me and my co-workers emailing each other from our mother's basements, inciting iPhone rumors all on our own?
Well, first of all, I don't live with my mother; and second of all, the new iPhone rumors have sprung forth from two reliable sources held in high journalistic regard.
The first is esteemed, award-winning tech journalist John Paczkowski of All Things Digital, who blazed iPhone prognostication trails by predicting back in April that an updated iPhone 4 would be unveiled at the September Apple music Conference and has steadfastly maintained the claim is true through June and into July. In fact, he confirmed as recently as July 5 that a shiny new iPhone looked to be in the early stages of supply chain production, and that people close to the company still believe that the new iPhone would be ready for the Jobs treatment in September.
So there is Reliable Source One.
Reliable Source Number Two is the Wall Street Journal, not exactly a one-laptop operation. The paper gives "the end of September" as a target launch date, which squares up with both Paczkowski's prediction of a September announcement and release. This doesn't even mention This Is My Next's separate prediction of a September release, nor 9to5Mac reporting that there are going to be two new iPhones in September, one low-end and high-end. But now we're falling down the rabbit hole and into the basement again, so let's focus:
There is likely to be a new iPhone in September. It will likely affect the price of all the other iPhones. The iPhones available now -- the iPhone 4 and the iPhone 3Gs -- will probably be cheaper in two months. Unless you drop your current iPhone in a pool, a bathtub or a volcano, do not buy an iPhone until Steve Jobs opens his beautiful brilliant mouth at the Apple conference in early September. When the post-turtleneckian dust settles, we'll have a clearer picture of whether or not this rumored new iPhone is worth the money. And then we can talk about--well, whether or not you should buy an iPhone now, or wait until the next one comes out.

Apple has two prototypes out testing now.  One is a thinner totally redesigned case.  The problem with it is that Foxconn can't seem to build it.  Hence the delay.  The other prototype uses the existing case, but with updated (read dual core) internals.  If they can get production up by September the first phone will be released and will be the iPhone 5.  If they cannot, then the second prototype will be released as the iPhone 4GS.

  • At the age of 11, should i buy a Iphone 5 or a Ipad 2?

I am at the age of 10. Soon i will become 11 and my dad promised me that he would get me a Iphone or whatever. First, i did want a Iphone but now to think of it, i am also kind of interested, especially the Ipad 2. And now, i cant decide which one i want for my B'day. That why i was wondering if maybe people could give me some ideas on what to buy. Here are some Pro's and cons about the Ipad and Iphone:
    Pro's on Ipad:
    Its got a big screen
You can do lots of things on it
    you can engrave on it
Its a bit cheaper then the Iphone 5.
    Cons of Ipad:
It is very big to carry round
    you cant call on it
    you cant text on it
It hasnt got as many things that you can do on Iphone
    Pros of Iphone:
    It's well put together
You can do lots and lots of things on it
It's faster then Ipad even though it is much thinner and smaller
you can easily use it with 1 hand
I can technically take it anywhere i want.
    Cons of Iphone:
It is kind of more expensive then the Ipad
It could break quite easily if it fell on the floor as it is very thin
As you can see, i have got more Pro's on the Iphone then the Ipad and less cons on the Iphone then on the Ipad. My parents think that i should get a Ipad but i am not sure. As you can see, im stuck now. Please help me out and write your ideas in the answer box. Thank you

Neither! You should go for the iPad mini instead. Seeing that you're barely turning 11, the size should give you enough screen estate. It's better than an iPad2 in terms of specs and plus it's then both!
But to be honest, you're still too young to be carrying anything that's more than $50 dollars in value. However, seeing that you're only ten yet able to log in the Apple Support Community and post something that is fairly well written and thought out (with bullet points!), I guess you're capable of taking care of such a device.
Enjoy your birthday and your present (whatever it may happen to be)!

  • Where Should I Buy The iPhone?

I'm Thinking of going to the apple store to purchase my iPhone, will the apple store have the iPhone in stock? Or should i buy online.

I was in the same predicament this week. I had sold my Nexus One thinking I could find the iPhone 4 in stock since my brother bought his days before from an Apple Store. The first day I called all AT&Ts (only pre-order), Best Buys (out of stock), Radio Shacks(dude said they dont sell them), Walmarts (no stock for two weeks), and of course Apple Stores (they get "daily" shipments but don't know how many) in my area with no luck. The second day in the morning, frustrated I was about to order one online from ATT (a 7-10 business day wait) when I decided to start calling again....sure enough around 11am I called the closest store (for the second time that day, I had called at opening time 10am) they had them BUT only the 32GB.
Thinking I would have to wait days if not weeks for the 16GB I went ahead and bought it. Then one day after that I called out of curiousity again, and what do you know! They had both 16GB and 32GB! So I went in and exchanged the 32GB I had bought the day before.
_Moral of the story: Best chance is to call Apple Stores everyday at least twice a day_. By noon they will know whether they have them or not for the day. They get daily shipments.
TOTAL WAIT TIME: 2 days for 32GB, 3 days for 16GB (my preference).

  • Should i buy an iphone 4s or wait for the iphone 5 to come out

hi, just wanted to know if i should buy an iphone 4s or simply wait for the iphone 5 to come out... Do you know what is going to be new on the iphone? is there going to be another iPhone?

We only know what information Apple has released. The only real thing released is iOS 6 will be out in the Fall. We have heard no official announcement as to the date of that release, nor have we received any announcement of the release of a new iPhone, no matter what they want to call it. Your decision to purchase a phone has to be based on your need at the time and what is available.

  • Should I buy the iPhone 5 or the iPod 5 and keep my phone?

Right now I have this phone
It's considered a smartphone, so I have the minimum data contract (300MB I think?) with Verizon. I had the iPod Touch 4, but sold it to raise money for my purchase. My main usage for my iPod was music, apps, email, safari, youtube and picture/video taking. My main worry is that I'll go over my data plan if I continue my previous usage. I'm always surrounded by wifi on my college campus though. So should I buy the new iphone and potentially have to get a bigger data plan, or the new ipod 5 and keep my old phone plan?
Thanks guys. First post, so I apologize if I did this wrong.

  • Should i buy the iphone with an At&t contract

Hey guys, I just wanted to know if I should sign an At&t contract when i buy an iPhone from a local apple store. can I buy it without signing one? and if I got it from apple online store, should I also sign an At&t contract.
Please tell me the best way to get an iPhone without signing an At&t contract.
    thnx guys

You can get around not signing a contract with at&t however if you do so then you will not be able to use visual voice mail "big loss". however if you do unlock iphone using a hack off of the Internet it voids your warranty and i think it might be illegal in some states but don't know cus i from the UK. However without signing with at&t there is no warranty and if your iphone breaks as quite a few have, e.g. the screen no longer responding or whatever you will have to shell out all that $399 again so it is your choice but personally i would just sign the contract.
    Hope this helps.

  • I have Virgin Mobile, can I buy an iphone from the apple store?

I want to buy it from Apple because it's cheaper. Virgin is a subsidiary of Sprint, so can I buy the iphone under the Sprint option?

    No.

  • Should I buy the iPhone 5 now or wait until September?

It's July now and apple usually announces a new iPhone is September should I get the iPhone 5 now or wait until September?

No one but Apple knows when (or if) Apple will release a new iPhone.  That being said, Apple has released a new iPhone every year for 6 years straight.  If you think you want the newest iPhone, wait a few months and see what happens this year.

  • Which iPad should I buy my daughter?

My 9 year old is saving up for an ipad mini and originally I thought we would just buy a 16gb but now im not sure if we should buy the 32gb.
She will be using it for games, music and movies and face time?
    Does anyone have any advice?

I own a 16GB iPad Mini & as far as Facetime is concerned it has nothing to Do with HD Size, but it really comes down to what type of media she's going to be adding to it, If she watches movies & buy's them in HD then the files will be a bit larger then if she were to buy the same Movie in SD(standard Def). As far as music is concerned that too depends on how much one can listen to in a day or in a week or randomly listen to. Both my iPhone 5 & iPad Mini are 16GBs n work Perfectly for me as i can Add 2 HD Movies & still have room for Music but the iPad Mini is a pretty good deal considering that it's smaller & eaisly fits into a purse or as i Do stick in your back pocket as long as you know it's back there, but it's a nice screen size for music vids,Movies & weight's MUCH less then it's larger brothers which makes it simpler to handle when ya go out shopping.

  • Which iPad should I buy?

Hey everybody! I'm definitely going to be purcahsing an iPad in the next few weeks. I'm trying to decide if I want the 16 GB WiFi only or the 32 GB WiFi only. I'm also trying to decide on color but I think I'm going to go for black. I have a 32 GB iPod Touch 4th Gen and I'm currently using only 7.56 GB. I know I'll definitely be watching more videos on my iPad and I probably won't listen to as much music on my iPad so I can always get rid of my 1.91 GB of Audio I have for my iPad. I'm leaning towards the 16GB right now and it probably only has about 14.2 GB of memory after all of the pre-programmed software is included. I'm also wondering it the smart covers are actually worth it for the plastic not the leather ones.
I'm going to be using my iPad primarily for surfing the web, watching youtube videos, netflix, games, and apps.
So here are my questions: Should I get 16GB WiFi only or 32GB WiFi only, Which color, and Are the smart covers worth it?
Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

    Mark-
My Apple dealer suggested that I would probably never need more than 16 GB, but the only iPad 1 they had in stock was 32 GB.  I never used 2 GB.
When shopping for the iPad 2, I decided that 32 GB might be a good idea in case I found a use for it that included lots of videos.  With the iPad 2 being in short supply, the only WiFi-only model I could get was 64 GB.  I still have less than 2 GB used.  In other words, you may have to take what you can get!
I do not have the smart cover.  As far as I can tell, their only value is for use as a support to prop up the iPad.

  • Should I buy the iphone 4s or Buy the iphone 5 they have the same features basically the iphone 4s just cost less

They will have the same features once the iphone 5 comes out they will both have ios 6 , passbook, panerama mode, ect. The iphone 4s just cost less. im not worried so much about the screen size i just want to know some opinions. And what color is good for a guy to get?

    That is your decision.
The 5 has a faster processor, more RAM, and a larger screen.  The biggest difference is LTE.
Buy whatever fits your budget and needs.
Personally I just got a 32GB 4S on closeout from AT&T for $199... to me it was worth saving $100 over a similar iPhone 5.
Color is your choice, again my personal opinion is white electronics are hideous.  Many will disagree with me on that, but I cannot help that they have bad tastes.
