I have an iPhone 3gs (iOS 5.1) with BB 6.15 (the lastest) and it don't detect my SIM and I don't know what to do (I have unistalled all, and installed the lastest iTunes software)
Maybe your iPhone was hacked/jailbroken to use another carrier?
If so, now it locks back to the original carrier.

Only the carrier can authorise unlocking. You need to contact them.

Sure, bring your 3GS in and they will give you about 10% off towards the cost of a new one. You would be far better off to sell it yourself.

Itunes 11.1 is for your computer, not your iphone

Hi, I am new to this forum so please excuse anything I may say that sounds a bit stupid but I am not very technically minded.
I have got an iPhone 3gs ios version 4.1. The phone was locked to Vodafone and I asked them to unlock it which they did. I connected the phone to iTunes and it said congratulations your phone is now unlocked. My new Tesco sim card was accepted and the phone works fine. I have tried to download some apps but they all seem to need a higher version of the ios. iTunes says there is an update for my phone ios version 6. I need to know if I update my phone to this version will my phone still be unlocked and also will the phone continue to work properley. Hope someone can help.

I want to download itunes 11.0.2 on my PC but I get a "cannot download because you do not have 10.6.3 or later. I hit download and it runs for about
ten second then says "Thanks for download" but it is not download. I have not been able to sync for over 5 months. My iPhone 3GS has 6.1.3 version.That's because iTunes 11 requires Snow Leopard or higher.

There is no where for the upgrade to 'Light Up'...I don't know what that means. Once your phone is recognized, you can manually select 'Check for Update' if it isn't automatically prompting you.

I have an iPhone 3GS/IOS 6.1.6/iMac Yosemite 10.10/iTunes 12.0.1.26. I have always synced it with my 27 inch iMac with no problems.
I recently attempted to install the apps "The Economist Expresso" and "Disconnect."
I do NOT have (and have never had installed) the Wall Street Journal app.
I do have a 4 digit passcode set.
I do have Apples 2-factor authentication enabled.
When downloaded by iTunes they show up in an iPhone window and are labeled "will install".
I then click sync.
The sync process begins and they "immediately" disappear from the iPhone windows and revert back to "install" in the list of apps.
They have not installed and no error or any other message of any kind has been displayed.
I suspect that this all began happening when I enabled the two factor authentication -- the iPhone is the primary location to receive the authorization code, and it has worked. It may also have begun happening when I upgraded to Yosemite. I simply noticed that when syncing my iPhone, which I tend to do weekly by USB cable, not WiFi or iCloud; that the amount of free space simply kept growing.
Today, I finally gave in and reset the iPhone, and then restored from a backup.
Now I find that apps which I had been using daily, such as AP Mobile, were not restored, but also play this -- will install, then vanish -- game.
This is clearly something which Apple has done to attempt to force me to purchase a new iPhone 6, but until now I have had no problem with my 3GS for what I use it for. This total lack of error messages will cause me to replace my 3GS with a non-Apple product as there is clearly no reason to stick with Apple.

I agree with John, if you are going through more than 2 error codes that are ALL different (say for example 1604 and 21, they should be back and forth depending on what you do to correct it), you're having serious hardware failure. -
