Yep. Any 3GS can be upgraded to iOS 5. The baseband you have at the moment (5.14.02) is irrevelent; it will be upgraded when you go to iOS 5. Unless you're relying on a software unlock (which is prohibited by the Terms of Use and as such we can't help you here) you can update just fine, your baseband version will be updated as well but this will have no effect on the operation of the phone.

Ali i had this problem today and it took me 7 hours to get it back on . i ended up downloading firmware from a third party site , it was a nightmare . i would recommend just taking ur fone into apple

QUESTIONS: I have an iphone 3gs.just updating to ios5. am at the stage where I chose to restore iphone via itunes. sync seems stuck at step 7 of 7: syncing artwork. Is this necessary and if not how do I get around it?
When I use find file http://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/30073/find-file (which does tend to find files that "Finder" can't), it's not coming up with any other itunes library files that have been modified in the past week, which I know it would have been - unfortunately, I don't have a very recent backup of the hard drive. It would be a few months old so it wouldn't have the complete library on it....any ideas? I'm wondering if restarting the computer might help but have been afraid to do so in case it would make it harder to recover anything...I was looking at this thread https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4211589?start=0&tstart=0 in the hopes that it might have a helpful suggestion but it's definitely a different scenario.

I have the Iphone 4s. If I try to download the iOS 7, will this affect any of the apps I already have. (I have an app with a lot of my baby's information that I don't want to lose). Or is iOS 8 better to download?

when is upgrading the ios not a good idea. I am concerned my phone will not have strong enough computer power to handle this new IOS.

It isn't that risky. You may be reading hundreds of posts here about problems, but that is out of MILLIONS of iPhones that have been upgraded. Percentage-wise, that means most people have no problem.
However, as with any major change to your system, you should back up everything your iPhone first. Just right-click it in iTunes to get the backup menu. That will be your safe fallback position in case something goes wrong.
I still use an iPhone 3GS. That's older than your iPhone. But iOS 5 works fine on it. -

My Iphone 4s goes into recovery mode after doing the IOS 6 update.
I just tried doing the IOS6 update and after about 2hrs into it my phone goes into recovery mode. The Itunes icon appeared on the phone. When i connected it to Itunes, I tunes said i had to restore and update my phone.
BTW my son did the update in about 15 minutes i tunes says my phone will take 7 HOURS!!!
HELP!!!!Hi guyz just fixed mine just now, I used an app named iREB please refer to the below link. Make sure youre iphone is plugged in to your USB then launch the app as admin. As soon as the app is running go to the "Recovery Mode Loop Fixer" tab & hit the "Set Auto-Boot True (Fixes 1015 errors / Recovery Loops). It will restart your iPhone in just a moment & get you back to your homescreen.
I hope this will help those whos undergoing this horrifying iPhone problem.

Iphone 3gs "no sim card installed" issue after updating iOS
I have an iPhone 3Gs. Last week I started updating the iOS of the phone then, I was brought to the page wherein I need to activate the phone. After going through some tabs to tap, the screen says " iphone cannot be activated because the activation server is temporarily unavailable, try to connect to iTunes. So I followed what is instructed. I connected the phone to iTunes but the message says, There is no sim card installed on your iphone. Before I updated the phone, the sim card was not inside the phone, so I inserted it back after the message "no sim card installed, try to disconnect and insert your sim card". But still nothing happened, the message keeps appearing. Also, I can see a "No service" message on the upper Ieft part of the phone. Is the sim card not inside the phone before updating the iOS the main reason why the phone cannot recognize the sim card? first time iphone user here, my aunt gave me this iphone. I really need help. Thank you so much
Ask your aun if the phone was hacked/jailbroken. Those problems are symtomatic of a hacked phone.

Have a iphone 3GS; 2 email accounts. one is for work. It used to work fine until about Feb 2011. Now when i send emails from my work account it only appears in the sent file. Recipients do not get email.
IT person looked at it & cannot find why this is happening.
Any insight why this is occurring??This has nothing to do with your iPhone.
If a message is in the account's Sent mailbox, this means the message was successfully sent. If a message cannot be sent for whatever reason, it will remain in the Outbox.
What happens to a message after it was successfully sent has nothing to do with the email client or computer/device used to send the message.
