Find the .IPSW file that was downloaded and delete it, then re-download it.
If you're using a PC, shut off your antivirus and firewall software during the process.

I bought the iPhone new and set up by myself. I still remember apple id details. The problem is that while the update was on, I needed to enter my apple id on the phone to complete the update my screen lock has been activated. Now the phone only displays the iTunes logo and the USB cable being inserted. But I can still access my the phone contents through my laptop. I need to force the phone to restart. How can I do that? mind you I have pressed the home and power buttons together for a couple of minutes. It will only display the apple logo for a few seconds and then return to the iTunes and USB cable display. Maybe the phone is hanging. So please help me.

Something to try - use Acrobat to extract small page counts (say 10 pages) to have smaller page size PDF files. Export these to Word files. Then bring those together.

Do you see the problem if you turn off Compatibility Mode for QuickTime?
Right-click on the QuickTimePlayer application (located in C:\Program Files\QuickTime) and choose Properties from the shortcut menu.
In the Properties window, click the Compatibility tab
Deselect all checkboxes currently selected in the Compatibility tab.
Click Apply.
Close the Properties window.

Is the phone stolen? If so contact the police and see if they can help. You can also contact your carrier and see if they can freeze your account so that phone can't be used anymore and run up your bill.

You cannot update iPhone 4 to IOS 8.1.2, the highest you can update is IOS 7.1.2.

It's because your hardware does not have a 64-bit EFI boot ROM. There is no fix except to sell your computer and buy a newer model that is compatible:

I was struggling with creating an account without a credit card at first and then someone on here suggested I create my account through the actual website and I log onto the website without any trouble and onto Game Center, just nowhere else. It says "This Apple ID has not yet been used with the iTunes Store." and asks me to review my account information but when I click on review, it completely ignores my request. This is somewhat infuriating as I really would like to start using the App Store. Thank you for your help.

What does "online documentation" mean exactly? Are you using the Notes app to try to create notes in iCloud, for example?
If so, that should still work in iOS 7.1.
If not, please tell us specific symptoms of what is (or is not) happening.
