Thanks, I tried this and it didn't work. I have a windows xp computer and connected the iphone to it. When I click on the iphone link that comes up under my computer i only get my iphone photos. No other options come up.

I have a 10.6.8 OS and want to upgrade to Mountain Lion but when I try the applications tells me my computer can't support it. What does that mean. I have upgraded to Snow Leopard and was told (by Mac Store) that after that I would be able to update to Mountain Lion.

You need 10.6.8 to upgrade to Mountain Lion, but it doesn't mean that your computer is compatible. Mountain Lion is compatible with Late 2008 Aluminum or Early 2009 MacBooks. If you have an older one, you can't upgrade to Mountain Lion. Read > http://www.apple.com/osx/specs

That is my problem when I click the link to access my download there is no download available on my account. I purchased Adobe exportPDF 6 days ago but never got an e-mail to confirm that my payment had gone through and that it was available to download although the payment has been deducted from my visa card. I went through the FAQ and was directed to my account which showed that the payment was confirmed and export PDF was available to download. IPhone restored while attempting to update it for the first time through Itunes, is there anyway to get my apps, contacts, and photos back?

I purchased an IPhone back in April but have yet to ever update it using the itunes. Today I installed ITunes64 version 10.5.0.142 and connected my IPhone to my PC. After this I went to the IPhone and clicked the check for updates button. After updating my phone was restored and I had lost all of it's contacts, apps, photos, and everytihng. Is there anyway to recover my stuff?

In the process of updating the iphone,the update process performs a backup of your phone prior to updating the ios software. Connect your phone via usb,if itunes doesn't luanch,then luanch the app manually,on the left side pane of itunes the name of your phone will be listed under devices,right click on the name of your phone,and select restore from backup, then just follow the process. In the future it's very important to backup your iphone on a regular basis via icloud or itunes.Hope it all goes well for you
After rereading your oringinal post, I would first just resync it via itunes on your computer before I did a rstore from backup.

If you have iOS 5+ on your iPad (Settings > General > About > Version) then you should have a Settings > General > Software Update option for direct update on it, otherwise you can only updatevia your computer's iTunes.
To update via your computer, connect the iPad to your computer's iTunes and copy any purchases off the iPad to your computer via File > Devices > Transfer Purchases. You may also want to copy photos and any important documents off the iPad as well e.g. via the file sharing section at the bottom of the device's apps tab when connected to iTunes, via wifi, email, dropbox etc - they should be included in the backup, but it's best to have a copy of them outside of the backup just in case. You can then force a backup of the iPad by right-clicking the iPad 'Device' on the left-hand sidebar of iTunes and selecting 'Backup' (on iTunes 11 you can enable the left-hand sidebar via option-command-S on a Mac, control-S on a PC)
Then start the update by selecting the iPad on the left-hand sidebar, and on the Summary tab on the right-hand side clicking the Check For Updates button

If you want to use multiple devices - move to imap, I would even say "exchange", but Google does not support free exchange anymore, since January of that year. So Ironically Icloud or Hotmail would be my choices right now.

Thank you so much for your response. I had these photos backed up on iCloud but, had I not, its good to have an alternate solution as the one you suggested. Actually, I went to the Apple store today and yes, you are absolutely correct Restoring in iTunes will result in permanent loss of photos unless backed up somewhere such as iCloud or other solution. Well, what they did was restore the phone in itunes ( I did not have iTunes downloaded to my computer which is why it did not work when I went to do it myself, I needed to go to the iTunes site and go to the download iTunes button because my windows based HP laptop does not come with itunes already downloaded). This retoration process took a while and I was forced to upgrade to the latest 7.1 iOS software which I was not too happy about -sometimes you like the way things work now :-) Anyhow, they said this restoration request happens as a result of a software update (which I was NOT in progress of an update or doing an update) or sometimes when you remove the power cable too quickly from the iphone (which I do not recall doing this either but...). Since I had backed up on iCloud all of the photos were downloaded back on my iphone 4s. Best of all was that my phone was back up and runnning and there was NO CHARGE at the apple store for this service of restoring my phone. Well, I just wanted to share the results and I appreciate all the responses and support I received. Thank you kindly.

Since there is no "Software Update", you are not yet up to iOS 5. That is where that feature was introduced.
So your only choice is to use iTunes to update your software.

Never mind, got it to work. I stumbled around on Google for a while and somehow ended up reading things from the 'jailbroken' community. They had easy instructions to get out of Recovery mode. Thanks anyway though!
