I have an Iphone 4s, never been activated and now it is displaying a screen 'Sim card not valid'. Help?
I've never had an Iphone before, and now it seems like it was a good thing. I recently purchased an Iphone 4s outright, and it was working fine as an Ipod. Now it seems as if I am locked out of the whole thing, and it is telling me I must activate the phone in order to even use it on wi-fi. Only compatible with SIM cards from supported carrier? I have absolutely no idea what to do. I'm stuck between that screen and the Wi-Fi- settings. Any clues?

Well, doing that "could" be your problem, as it will error out & prevent the official unlock from being processed.

You'll have to get a new one from your carrier. I believe the shipping instructions for mail in service explicitly tell you to take it out as you will most likely not receive the same phone back. Apple doesn't repair most phones, they replace them.

well I restored my iPhone and I try to activate it just with my iPhone and it said your iPhone could not be activated because the activation server is temorarily unavailable. So I tried doing it on iTunes and it said SIM card not installed help me please.

I have an iphone 4 it is inactive, and now disabled because of forgetting the password. When I hook it up to itunes it recognizes it as my new iphone 5. if i reset it would it reset both phones or just the inactive one?

Every time i connect it to itunes all it says is "There is no SIM card installed in the iphone you are attempting to activate." Even thought there is a sim card connected in my phone.Is the SIM from a supported carrier?
Is the device carrier locked, officially unlocked, or hacked to be unlocked?
Has the SIM been reseated? If not, try that.
Also, basic troubleshooting is reset, restart, restore. Has any of that been tried? -
I did a restore on iphone and now it wont pick up my sim card...any ideas??
I purchased an unlocked 3gs iphone and tried to sync it with itunes to get updates on the software. i clicked on update but nothing happened so i clicked on restore and it basically wiped the whole phone clean and now it wont pick up my sim card and is saying my serial code is wrong?

Basically,when i 1st put the iphone on,it says no service on the top bar and at the bottom it says configure,so i go through the procedure, then i get a message saying `" your iphone could not be activated because the activation server is tempererally unavailable.Try connecting your iphone to itunes to activate it or try again in a couple of minutes. If this problem persists,contact apple support." -

I've had the same problem more than once since I started trying to download my 14 April purchase of OS X Mountain Lion.
I found a property list called manifest.plist in my ~/Library/Application Support/AppStore folder which had a Boolean property called failed checked. I unchecked it and afterwards I was able to resume my download.
Here are some steps I've found useful:
Close the Mac App Store.
make a copy of the ~/Library/Application Support/AppStore folder. For some strange reason the Mac App Store likes to just delete it in some circumstances, which will mean that one has to start one's download again from the very beginning.
Double click on the manifest.plist in one's ~/Library/Application Support/AppStore folder.
This should open it in Property List Editor.
Expand all the nodes (holding down the alt key and clicking on the highest collapsed node should do it.
Find a key called failed of type Boolean and uncheck it.
Save the manifest.plist and close it.
Open the Mac App Store.
The red message "an error has occured" should now be gone and one should be able to resume one's download.
In the event that the ~/Library/Application Support/AppStore folder gets deleted:
start the download again (it will start from the beginning), pause it and close the Mac App Store.
copy your backup copy of the pkg file back to its sub-folder (it's a numbered folder in the ~/Library/Application Support/AppStore folder).
Open the Mac App Store and resume your download.
It should continue from where it left off.
This has worked for me so far. I'm holding my breath. Don't know if I'll still be alive when it's finished.

If it's an unlocked phone, any SIM will do. It doesn't even have to be tied to an active line of service. It just has to be a valid SIM. If it's carrier locked, it must be from the correct carrier.

I brought an iPhone 3gs two days ago, and must have knocked my drink onto it when i was asleep because when i woke up it was soaking wet. I dried it out and tried charging it and it said that it couldnt charge with this accessory. Now its totally dead and wont charge. What do i do?
You've most likely shorted the battery out or fried the logic board, or both. Your options are not good. Apple has an out of warranty replacement program, cost for a 3GS is US $149. I wouldn't recommend you go that route, as the 3GS has been discontinued. A third-party repair shop may be your best option, but won't be much cheaper if the both battery & logic board need replacing.
You can "try" placing the phone in a ziploc bag filled with dry rice...leave for 4 ~ 5 days. Odds are, this won't work though. -

IPhone 4 Sim Card not supported Help!
I bought an iPhone 4 off someone under the impression that it was UNLOCKED due to the fact that is had no Network on the box (unlike other iPhones i've had)
but when taking my o2 Sim out of 1 iPhone and putting it into my newer one, iTunes was saying that the Sim was not supported,
so im obviously guessing that the iPhone is actually locked to a Network....
I tried Googling the Part/Serial Number and Vodafone kept getting mentioned so might it be locked on the Vodafone Network?

Thanks.One of the big downfalls of purchasing an iPhone from a non-official source is a mess like this. Only the carrier that an iPhone is locked to can authorize the phone's official unlocking. Just about every carrier that unlocks iPhones will only do so for users active on their network. Thus, you're gonna have to establish service with the carrier this phone is locked to(after verifying they offer unlocking), then request they unlock your phone.
