Flip the Ring/Silent switch. Make sure Vibrate when silent is off in Settings>Sound.

I guess he/she open Notes in Gmail settings. This archives (one way sync) notes in gmail account under notes label that is invisible if you are using the standard gmail setup on your iPhone. You can see it on desktop browser, Safari or gmail app in iDevice. Am I wrong?

There is no bug, there is no patch, and no one needs to delete any email addresses. This is true of course, but doesn't cover the situation where some files are in the iTunes Media folder and others are on an external drive. In my case I keep my music in the Media folder and all my films on an external drive (there are too many to have on the internal drive). In iTunes 11, and before, it was easy to add those external files by holding down the alt/opt key while dragging to the sidebar. In iTunes 12 this is no longer possible. There are several workarounds: use TuneSpan to move the file after it's been added; delete the file from the Media folder and empty the trash then use iTunes Get Info which will report the file is missing and allow you to locate it; constantly switch the Add to iTunes toggle on and off as required. All of these require a lot more work than just holding down the alt/opt key while adding.
It constantly gets harder.

The sort fields should generally be empty unless you've putting in custom values to sort solo artists by their surnames. You can apply common changes to thousands of tracks at once, just don't apply the wrong change because there is no undo.
It is a good idea to backup before undertaking large scale changes. See this backup tip for a suggested approach.

It was very hard to see what the box says because the message displays for less than one second. However, I was able to record it with my iphone and pause it until I got a shot of the message. The box says the following:
"Do you want the application “java” to accept incoming network connections?
Clicking deny may limit the application’s behavior. This setting can be changed in the Firewall pane of Security preferences."
I did make some changes. I will see if it works.

You can share the same Apple ID in
Settings > iTunes & App Store > Apple ID: here
But for all other Apple services like:
FaceTime, iMessage, iCloud, etc, one of you should use a different Apple ID.

The way I sync mine is to have an 'master' folder on my computer, and underneath it I have separate folders for the photos that I want to sync to the iPad - I then select the master folder in iTunes and the folders underneath it are synced to the iPad, each getting their own album.

This is part of Lion's Resume feature (I assume you are on Lion).
A couple of things you can do: System Preferences>General and deselect 'Restore windows when quitting and re-opening apps'.
Also when you shutdown or restart make sure the following is unticked:

I followed that 'How-To' when I did the transfer and watched iTunes process the backup, it also showed the 'Last Backup' date correctly at the bottom of the iTunes Summary screen. I did a restore from backup to my new iPad and on checking the iPad 4 it seemed that the transfer process duly transferred my books, documents, apps etc but did not transfer my photos and videos (they are all clicked to be included in the sync).
I have now clicked on each video title in iTunes and it tells me that it cannot locate any of the videos!
It seems for some bizarre reason that the transfer process has transferred some of the content of my iPad 1 and deleted other content - I don't get it!
I also have the same content (videos and photos) on my iPhone 4 and have connected that to iTunes, whereby it immediately did a backup and sync, however I still get iTunes telling me that it cannot locate the videos ... it's as though the backup that was taken does not exist - or does 'backup' not mean 'backup'?.

But if iit won't stay open, then it's quitting unexpectedly which is the same as a crash.
There has to be a reason for that which a crash report should reveal.
Check ~/Library > Logs > Diagnostic Reports

There is no setting to stop this from happening, which means there is a major problem with your iPhone and the reason you can't use your iPhone at the time.
If you restored from your iPhone's backup, try restoring as a new iPhone or not from the backup. If this occurs again shortly thereafter, the iPhone has a hardware problem.
