I have an iPhone 5 and got my daughter an iPod Touch. I set it up using my apple ID so she could use my iTunes. Now we are having contacts synch issues and she is receiving some text message threads that I exchange with other iPhone users.

What is the best practice here? I want her to have her own contacts, etc., but to be able to download music and aps from the store using my account, and to synch her music with my iTunes. Any suggestions? Thanks!

- On her iPod go to Settings>iCloud and turn off contacts and other things if you want.
- On the iPod go to Settings>Messages>Send and Receive and add here own email address and delete the Apple ID email address. Also uncheck yur phone number if it appears. The only way to delete the phone number is to use an Apple ID not associated with the phone. You do that in Settings>Messages>Apple ID
You can go to Settings>FaceTime>Yu can be reached at and add here email and delete the Apple ID.

I took the ipod to a friend and hooked to her laptop and it synced fine but now trying to sync on mine it wont do it and it has the backup encryption on but no passwords will unlock it. itunes will reccognize the ipod and the iphone but while going thru the sync steps they both get to step 2 then lock up itunes and then says its syncing but will never stop. I am very frustrated and am regretting buying products from Apple.

It seems to be a glitch or bug. Its been officially acknowledged and addressed by Apple. There is no resolution other than waiting for a few days. The Kb article by Apple states it will fix itself on January 7.

Symptoms
After January 1st, 2013, Do Not Disturb mode stays on past its scheduled end time.
Resolution
Do Not Disturb scheduling feature will resume normal functionality after January 7, 2013. Before this date, you should manually turn the Do Not Disturb feature on or off.
To turn off the scheduling feature, tap Settings > Notifications > Do Not Disturb and switch Scheduled to Off.

Cannot send or receive some text messages

I just got the iphone 4s, and am having problems sending and receiving some text messages, it is saying "Message Send Failure"

Same problem persists also here. Have crosschecked with friend, all same settings, have deleted the contacted, created again, still that number does not receive my SMS (no question on iMessage). Can not even reply her message. This problem persists with few numbers, nothing common, different phones, different countries, different operators. All others, with different operators, in different coutries receive my messages. Even other people can send their SMS to her.

My IPhone 5 with latest version of ios 6 won't receive some text messages. All text messages not received are from different people on the same carrier (not mine). Some messages come through if they repeatedly send them. I have tried resetting network settings. This fixes the issue for 10 minutes or so before I don't receive the messages again. I dont have iMessage on and I've tried a restore.

After resetting the network settings everything works fine again.
YouTube App and the videos you posted above didn't play.
After resetting, they are playable.

There's a small vocabulary issue here.
"Reset" means a specific action, which does not involve iTunes at all. You reset your iPhone by holding the on/off and home buttons together for about 10 seconds till the Apple logo appears. You could try that - it's risk free - but probably would not work.
"Restore" (not reset) is something you do using iTunes. Plug your iPhone into iTunes on your computer (current version: 11.1.3). Let it sync. Then choose "Restore" from the iPhone's summary tab in iTunes.

Go to https://expresslane.apple.com ; select 'iTunes' in the first column and then 'iTunes Store' in the second column. The iPod's firmware is corrupt. You'll need to restore it again in iTunes. If necessary, place the iPod in recovery mode for iTunes to recognize the device. Use the instructions in this Apple support document to walk you through the process of placing the iPod Touch into recovery mode.

Go to Settings>Messages>Send & Receive and do one of the following:
Either uncheck the email address shown under "You can be reached by iMessage at" on both of your phones; or
If you want to continue to receive iMessages at this email address on one of your devices, on the other phone tap the Apple ID at the top, sign out, then sign back in using a different Apple ID (so both phones are using a different Apple ID for iMessage). Note: you can continue to share an Apple ID for purchasing from the iTunes and App stores. It does not need to be the same as the ID you are using for iMessage, FaceTime and other services.

Why do I receive some text messages ONLY on my mac and NOT on both my phone AND mac?

I have my iPhone linked to my messages app on my macbook pro. Often times incoming messages are only sent to my mac and NOT my phone. When I turn on my mac I see that I have missed several text messages. This didn't happen before I upgraded to the latest software for my phone.

Has nothing to do with your iPhone. After a message is sucessfully sent, what happens to the message after that has nothing to do with the phone that sent the message or with the recipient's phone.

Text messages often don't send to other iphones on the first try

When I try to send a text message to a fellow Iphone user, it says it's sending but does not fully send. The bar stops just short. Later, it will say message failure and I will retry and that usually works. I don't understand why it does that. I also do not get text messages from Iphone users sometimes. It is very odd. I was wondering if anyone else has this problem.

Same problem since last night! What I didn't realize is that I was also not receiving texts and phonecalls. I wish I could tell you why or how to fix it. I just looked through every setting and all seemed normal. I turned the iPhone off then back on and everything came pouring in. This can't be the big solution though as I did that several times last night with no result.
I did notice it said 'searching 3G' at the top when attempting to send texts. I updated half of my apps the other day and wonder if that was the casue. My carrier is Rogers, but others in my home, with iPhones and a BB were not having any issues.

Need to have a separate iCloud account for daughter's iPod touch

I would like to manage all my iOS devices under one appleID, but with separate icloud accounts for my two daughters, each with their own iPod. How do I retain my Apple ID on daughter's iPod but have a separate iCloud address so that she doesn't receive my Messages, etc?

You'll have to have separate iCloud accounts to have separate email addresses. You can do this and still share the same iTunes account for purchasing. There is no requirement that they be the same ID.
To change the iCloud ID on each of your daughter's devices, go to Settings>iCloud and tap Delete Account. (This will only delete the account from this phone, not from iCloud. The phone that will be keeping the account will not be effected by this.) If she is syncing any data with your iCloud account, when prompted about what to do with the iCloud data be sure to select Keep On iPod. Next, set up a new iCloud account using a different Apple ID (if you don't have one, tap Get a Free Apple ID at the bottom). Then turn iCloud data syncing for contacts, etc. back to On, and when prompted about merging with iCloud, choose Merge. This will upload the data to the new account. If they have any of your data in their new accounts, go to icloud.com on your computer, sign into each of the accounts separately and delete it.
To prevent getting each other's text messages, use separate IDs for iMessage as well. If you are currently sharing the same ID for iMessage, on each of their devices go to Settings>Messages>Send & Receive, tap the ID, sign out, then sign back in with a separate ID.
